Wow, it's been over 2 weeks since I last posted. Sorry about that. Haven't had much time between vacation and getting ready for school.
Chapter 15: Forgiveness
Albus and his friends sat around the Room of Requirement for the next half hour, waiting for Matt to come back. Nobody said much, but Albus could tell that they were all worried about what was going to happen. Albus certainly was. Albus looked up sharply as he heard the door to the room open. "What happened?" he asked immediately.
Matt ran over to his friends with a smile on his face. "Not much."
"You don't have to leave?" Rose asked.
"Nope!" Matt grinned. "Kendrick said he'd take care of it and no one's going to be able to get into the passageway anymore."
"That's great!" Albus replied. He was very relieved. It would not have been fair for Matt to have to leave Hogwarts just because of Kaden's stupidity.
"Yeah. Kendrick said I should have just told him immediately, though."
"We didn't really think of it at the time," John commented.
"I know, and Kendrick understands. He's not giving me detention or anything," Matt told them.
"Good," Amanda replied.
"So," John said tentatively, "Nobody can get into the passageway now?"
"Pretty much. Kendrick didn't really explain, but he told me no one would be able to get in," Matt explained, "Just me and Madam Pomfrey, I think."
"Oh," John said, "I was kind of hoping we could go explore it some time."
Matt turned and glared at him, "Are you insane? There's no way I'd take you into the Shrieking Shack."
"It could have been like our own common room," John continued.
"No way. Nope. Not going to happen," Matt said flatly.
"All right, fine," John sighed, "Would've been cool, though."

The next day at breakfast, Albus was still thinking about the new map. He kept wondering what made it so different from the original Marauder's Map. Albus was hoping that it would show Hogsmeade, along with everyone who was in Hogsmeade.
"Who's that old lady up there?" Amanda pointed to the staff table. There was a short old witch with a patched and frayed hat sitting where Professor Longbottom usually sat.
Albus looked up and watched her. For some reason she looked rather familiar, but he couldn't put his finger on it.
"Yeah, and where's Professor Longbottom?" Matt asked.
"Dunno," Albus shrugged. He looked up towards the ceiling as the post owls started to arrive. Rose's family owl made a beeline for her and stood waiting for her to take the letter off.
Rose took the letter and gave her owl a piece of toast. She opened the letter and read for a few minutes before reemerging from behind it with a huge grin on her face. "Professor Longbottom's wife has had her baby! Her name is Lucy Augusta. That explains why Professor Longbottom isn't here."
Albus smiled. "That's great." Albus hadn't seen Hannah since the summer, and she'd been quite pregnant then.
"You know, I never really think about the teachers having families," Matt commented.
"Well, we met Professor Longbottom's wife at the Leaky Cauldron over the summer," John pointed out.
"I know, but I don't really remember her that well," Matt explained, "I didn't feel too great that day."
"Oh, yeah," John remembered, "And Professor Potter obviously has a family." John grinned at Albus.
"He does?" Albus opened his eyes wide in a look of fake shock. "I never knew!"
Matt laughed, "I wonder about the other teachers, though."
"I think Patil is married," Rose told them, "Slughorn isn't, but I'm not sure about the others."
"May I have your attention?" Kendrick stood up and banged his spoon against his goblet. "Thank you. I have two announcements this morning. The first one is that it has come to my attention that a few of you have not heeded my warnings about staying away from the Whomping Willow. I must tell you again how dangerous it is."
Albus stole a glance at Kaden, who was steadily turning more pink. Albus glared at him and this made him turn a bright shade of red.
"As an added precaution, I have put a few wards around it that will inform me when someone disregards my rules. There will be severe punishment for anyone who is caught around the tree," Kendrick said sternly.
"On a lighter note, I'm sure you all have noticed that Professor Longbottom is not here today."
Most of the other students started whispering among themselves, no doubt wondering why this could be considered a 'lighter note'.
"Yes, yes, no need to worry. Professor Longbottom's wife has had a baby girl and he will be gone for a few weeks. Professor Sprout, who taught here years ago has offered to take his place until he returns," Kendrick gestured to the older witch.
That's where he knew her from, Albus thought as Sprout stood up and waved. Albus had met Sprout once when he was much younger.
"I believe that is all. I hope everyone has a good Sunday and is well rested for classes tomorrow," Kendrick sat back down.
"I hope Sprout is nice," Matt said as he and the others wandered around the grounds after breakfast. It was a very mild day for November and most of the students were outside enjoying the weather.
"She is," Albus assured him. "My parents had her. So did most of my aunts and uncles."
"Mine, too," John said.
"I've met her a few times," Rose commented, "I like her."
"Good," Matt smiled, "It seems like we haven't got any mean teachers this year."
The group spent the morning wandering around the grounds, putting off the homework they should have been doing. They talked some more about the map, but nobody had any ideas as to how to get it to work or who could represent Wormtail. Albus also thought a lot about what Victoire had said. He was beginning to wonder if he should just forgive Kaden. It would certainly be a whole lot easier than trying to avoid him, like he had been doing the past month and a half.
"I don't think we're going to be able to ignore Kaden forever," Albus announced as they were laying underneath a beech tree near the lake.
"You've just realized this?" Rose asked, smirking.
"Well, I'd been hoping we could just ignore him," Albus told her.
"You can't, Albus," Rose sighed, "He's your cousin, whether you like him or not."
"I know," Albus replied, "I'm getting sick of having to avoid him all the time."
"I still don't like him," John said adamantly, "I mean, maybe if he'd learn how to shut his mouth, I'd like him better."
"Maybe there's some kind of spell we can use to get him not to talk about things he's not supposed to," Amanda laughed.
"That'd be nice," Albus agreed. "So, you think we should forgive him?"
"We probably should," Matt replied quietly. "No one can get into the tree now, and Malfoy's going to find out eventually," he sighed, "It's only a matter of time. He'll find out whether Kaden gives him clues or not. He's smart. Kaden won't figure it out until someone tells him, but Malfoy will find out on his own. It's only a matter of when."
Albus stared at his friend. Albus did not think Matt would ever be friendly with Kaden again, but what he said actually made sense. Malfoy was going to find out. "It's all right with you if I forgive him?"
"Yeah," Matt said, "He's your cousin. If I had any cousins, I'd want to be friendly with them."
Albus sighed. He knew the right thing to do was to just forgive Kaden. Albus knew that as soon as he made up with Kaden, Kaden would start hovering around them again. He just wished Kaden would find his own friends. But it didn't look like that was going to happen anytime soon. Every time Albus saw Kaden, he was either alone or with James.
"Want to go back to the castle?" John asked a little while later. It was starting to get windier and clouds were rolling in. It would probably rain soon.
"Sure," Albus agreed.
"I've got to find Slughorn," Rose announced as she stood up. "I need to talk to him about that last essay. Want to come, Amanda?" Amanda nodded and the two girls took off for the castle.
"Bet she thinks she lost a point on it," John laughed.
"Probably," Albus grinned as the three boys started walking back to the castle. They joined the large group of students now running towards the castle as it got darker outside.
"What do you want to do?" John asked as they climbed the stairs.
"Wanna go to the Room?" Matt suggested.
"Sounds good, maybe we can figure out how to work the new map," Albus said. "After all, once I talk to Kaden, we won't be able to sneak off there without him wondering where we are."
"I hadn't thought of that," John groaned. "Maybe you shouldn't talk to him."
"I've got to, John," Albus sighed. "He's my cousin."
"How are you going to keep him from knowing about the map?" Matt asked.
"No idea. I guess we'll just have to mess with it while Kaden's in class."
The boys continued their journey up to the seventh floor corridor. They were halfway down the sixth floor corridor, heading towards the stairs, when Matt stopped in his tracks. Albus stared at him quizzically, wondering why he had stopped. It wasn't close to the full moon yet. "What's wrong?" he whispered.
Matt said nothing but pulled his two friends into a nearby empty classroom. He shut the door and turned to face his friends. "There's people whispering just around the corner."
"What?" Albus asked. He hadn't heard anything in the corridor. It had seemed completely deserted.
"Are you mad?" John stared at him, "We were the only ones out there."
"I'm serious!" Matt said.
"No you're not," John laughed, "I'm supposed to be Sirius. You're Remus."
Matt groaned, "You know what I mean! But I definitely heard something. My hearing's better than yours."
"Oh, right," Albus replied, remembering that werewolves did have superior hearing. "Well, what was it?"
"There's at least two people out there and one sounds scared," Matt explained.
"Do you think they're students?" Albus asked, immediately thinking of the Willinsons and Washburn. Had they come back to find the Hallows?
"Yeah, definitely students."
Albus breathed a sigh of relief. It couldn't be Washburn or either Willinson, if they sounded like students.
"Let's go investigate," John said mischievously.
Albus was undecided if he wanted to go see who was whispering around the corner or not. He was definitely curious, but he didn't want to get hexed. Eventually, his curiosity beat out his fear. "All right."
"Hold out your wands," Matt instructed as he opened the door. The boys crept quietly out into the corridor and walked to the corner. As they got closer, Albus could start to make out bits of conversation.
"Come on!" an icy voice seethed, "You know more. Just tell us and we won't hex you."
"I swear, I told you everything!" someone croaked. He sounded like he was shaking.
Albus quickened his pace. Someone was going to hex someone. He had to stop them! Albus vaguely recognized both the voices, but he couldn't quite place them.
The boys rounded the corner and Albus saw why he recognized the voices. Scorpius Malfoy and Felix Willinson were standing with their wands pointed at Kaden, who was leaning on the wall, his hand shakily holding his wand out in front of him. Albus stopped in his tracks, and John and Matt did the same. Neither Malfoy, Willinson, or Kaden had noticed them yet.
"Just tell me what's beyond the tunnel, Dursley," Willinson snarled.
"I don't know!" Kaden repeated.
"Liar," Malfoy raised his wand a little higher.
That was it. Albus couldn't bear to watch Malfoy interrogating his cousin like that. All his bitter thoughts toward Kaden flew out the window the moment Albus saw Kaden's terrified face. Albus ran forward and shouted, "Expelliarmus!" Malfoy's wand sailed out of his hand and landed on the floor a few feet down the corridor. John ran forward and grabbed it.
Albus and Matt stepped forward as Malfoy and Willinson turned around. "Well, if it isn't Potter," Malfoy spat. "What can you possibly want?"
"Quit threatening my cousin," Albus growled. He pointed his wand at Malfoy's chest.
"That can be arranged," Malfoy replied, "If you tell us where the tunnel under the Whomping Willow goes."
Albus didn't break eye contact with Malfoy, but he knew Matt had gone white next to him. "Why would you think I know where it goes?"
"The Mudblood told us," Willinson smirked. "But he claims he's got no idea where it goes. I think you do."
"Don't call him a Mudblood!" Albus shouted.
At the same time, John shouted, "Expelliarmus!" and Willinson's wand sailed neatly into John's hand.
"Looks like you've got your cousin's dueling skills," Albus commented. "Quinton Willinson is your cousin, right?"
"Sure is," Willinson confirmed. "Now, will one of you tell us where the tunnel goes? I'll let your Mudblood cousin go if you do."
"I said don't call him that!" Albus shouted, "And no, we won't tell you where it goes."
"Fine," Malfoy smirked, "Guess your cousin will get hexed."
John burst out laughing, "Good luck with that, seeing as I've got your wands."
Apparently both Malfoy and Willinson had forgotten about that and they stared at each other. Kaden, realizing that neither Slytherin could hex him, stumbled over to where Albus and the others were standing.
"Dueling in the corridors," a panting voice behind them said. "That's against the rules."
Albus jumped as he heard the voice and turned around to meet it. It was Filch. Albus groaned inwardly. Why did Filch always have to be around? He, Matt, John, and Kaden all exchanged glances as Filch grinned at them all.
"Follow me, all of you," Filch said gleefully.
"But, Sir," Malfoy replied sweetly, "Felix and I don't have our wands. Clearly these four Gryffindors attacked us."
"If I've learned anything over the years," Filch growled, "It's that Slytherins are never innocent."
Albus stifled a laugh as he followed Filch down the hallway. Nobody said anything as Filch led them into his cramped office. It was very difficult for the six boys to fit inside and everyone was too close for comfort.
Filch went through his usual routine of filling out forms and filing them in the correct cabinet. He smirked as he filed Albus's form. "Seems you'll have a file nearly as big as your father and grandfather's by the time you graduate."
Albus said nothing as Filch continued to fill out and file his forms. After what seemed like an hour, but was probably only a few minutes, Filch finished. "You'll have two night's detention. Tonight and tomorrow night. Meet me here. Now get out."
Albus didn't have to be asked twice. He was the first one out the door, followed quickly by Matt, John, and Kaden. After the two Slytherins left and started heading towards the dungeons, Albus began to lead his friends up the stairs. No one said much as they walked towards Gryffindor Tower. Kaden stuck to them like someone had affixed a permanent sticking charm on him, but Albus didn't mind. He needed to talk to Kaden anyway. Why were Malfoy and Willinson threatening him? Was this the reason he told Malfoy about the passageway in the Whomping Willow?
When they got to the common room, it was packed. There was hardly any room for them. Albus wordlessly lead them up to his dormitory and shut the door behind them. John and Matt sat down on Matt's bed, but Albus and Kaden remained standing.
Albus wasn't sure where to begin. Should he just tell Kaden that he forgave him? Or ask him what was going on with Malfoy and Willinson? But before Albus could decide, Kaden started the conversation.
"I'm sorry," Kaden whispered quietly.
Albus did a double take. Kaden was sorry? "For what?" Albus asked. Kaden hadn't done anything wrong recently. Not since he talked to Malfoy over a month ago.
"For telling Malfoy," Kaden explained. "I know you're mad at me and I'm sorry," his voice cracked. "And I'm sorry for landing you lot in detention, again."
"Kaden, this one wasn't your fault," Albus insisted, "It was Malfoy and Willinson's fault. Speaking of them, want to tell us what's been going on?" Albus hadn't paid an ounce of attention to his cousin since their big fight over a month ago, but Albus was sure that this wasn't an isolated incident with the Slytherins.
"They cornered me," Kaden whispered, "Over a month ago. They knew I hung out with you, and they wanted to know if I knew anything about Matt's, er, illness."
Albus nodded. That's why Kaden had told Malfoy. The Slytherin weaseled it out of Kaden. "Go on."
"And I'm sorry, Albus," Kaden's eyes watered, "I really am. They just both pointed their wands at me, and I don't know any good hexes, and I just got scared, and I know Gryffindors are supposed to be brave, but they told me they'd hex me if I didn't tell them what I knew. So I did, and before I realized it I mentioned the Whomping Willow."
So that was it, Albus thought. He should have just listened to Victoire. There was a reason Kaden had told Malfoy. Kaden hadn't just willingly given him the information.
"And it was too late," Kaden continued, "They were going to hex me if I didn't tell them. So I told them there was a tunnel but I didn't know where it went. They didn't believe me, though. They've been trying to get me to tell them about once a week and I get hexed every time. Madam Pomfrey fixes it, though."
Albus sighed, "I told you to tell me if they were bothering you again."
"But you were mad at me," Kaden's voice wobbled, "I figured you didn't care anymore."
"Kaden, sometimes you do things that I just don't understand," Albus explained, "But I'll always care about you. You're my cousin and nothing can change that."
"I know, and I'm really sorry about everything," Kaden replied, "I wanted to keep it all a secret, but-"
"It's all right," Albus cut him off. Kaden was obviously sorry about what he had done. Albus was starting to feel really bad that he had ignored his cousin for so long, especially when he was being threatened by Slytherins. "And I'm sorry I didn't listen to you before."
Kaden nodded, tears starting to spill out of his eyes. "You're not mad at me anymore?"
"No," Albus answered, "Just tell me next time they do that. And try not to tell anyone the things I tell you in private anymore."
Kaden nodded and turned to John and Matt. "Are you two still mad at me?"
John and Matt looked at each other and then shook their heads. "No, we've been mad at you long enough," Matt told him.
Kaden smiled through his tears and looked back at Albus. "I don't suppose you'd tell me where the tunnel goes now?"
"Not a chance," Albus grinned. Even after all that, Kaden was still his usual curious self, forever optimistic that Albus would actually tell him all of Hogwarts's secrets.
"Didn't think so," Kaden replied, "But it was worth a shot. Anyway, I haven't had a chance to tell you, but I still think football is better than Quidditch."
"Are you mad?!" John and Matt shouted at the same time. Both of them had looks of disgust on their faces.
Kaden grinned sheepishly, "I just think it's better. You can't kick the Quaffle around like they do in football."
John turned his gaze from Kaden to Albus. "We've got to fix this," he said solemnly.
"We'll take him to the Cup," Matt decided, "No matter where it is. We'll go and prove to him that Quidditch is best."
"It won't change my mind," Kaden replied.
"Once you see the Cannons play, you'll change your mind," Matt told him as he stood up.
"The Cannons?" John laughed and walked over to the door, "Are you the insane one now?"
"Not at the moment, no," Matt smirked. John and Albus burst out laughing at John's choice of words and Kaden looked at them confusedly.
"Another thing I don't get to know?" Kaden asked.
"Yup," the three other boys said at the same time.
"Anyway," John continued as they left the room, "The Cannons are the worst team, you don't want to see them play. It's not like they'll make it to the Cup."
Matt punched him playfully in the arm, "Don't insult my team like that. It's not like Puddlemre United is doing much better."
This time it was John's turn to punch Matt in the arm. "Puddlemere is better than the Cannons can ever hope to be."
John and Matt continued their argument all the way down into the common room, with Kaden paying rapt attention. Albus smiled as he watched them. Maybe Kaden could fit in with their group after all.

I disagree about the hat thing. Yes, it is polite to take them off during meals and church and I agree that you shouldn't wear hats during those events. But school just seems different to me. People wear hats at my school (college) all the time.
I see your point about uniforms being easier, but I personally wouldn't want to sacrifice my freedom to express myself through clothing for ease. As far as gym class goes, I don't know about other places, but my school made you change your clothes for gym. You'd get points taken off if you didn't.
In my elementary school, if you had to wear your earrings during gym, they made you put scotch tape over them.
Where's the logic in that? I don't think a piece of tape would stop them from being ripped out, and it seems kind of unsanitary to put a piece of tape over your healing piercing. In middle and high school, you could wear whatever jewelry you wanted to in gym. It was your choice. I think in middle school you had to take out dangling earrings, but I don't really remember.

Good points all around Scellanis. I have to say, it's such a fashion show when there's no uniforms. Then I guess u can parade around in other situations (eg, recreational activities) wearing your 'fancy' threads.
Still, it totally sucks when parents can't afford to get their kids new uniforms and they end up with stuff that is too small, faded, holey, etc. And poor Harry wearing 'elephant skin' on his first day of high school! High School is hard enough!
Yes, hats seem to be a cultural thing, where u have to remove them in order to be polite. I remember hearing once that a boy in my friends school wore a turban (I think that's what they are called) and someone knocked it off, and his hair was really really long. I think if you wear a hat for religious purposes (or head dress), then that is fine. I remember ppl used to wear a hat when their hair looked terrible (from a bad hair cut, etc.) But in High School the teachers are onto that, becuase then ppl wear hats to cover their unwashed hair, and jackets to cover the smell from not showering.. and pretty soon it's just all a bit ferrel!
So.... I like uniforms for high school for the ease of it... but then out and about we should be able to wear what we want and not be persecuted! (as for piercings, it's a tough one, because it's personal choice. If u have to take piercings out for school, won't the holes grow in? Should u bring them to school and take em out and put em in before and after school right away? And would u get in trouble if u're seen in public wearing your piercings and school uniform......... What a conformist society we live in...)

You know, that hats inside thing is pretty much polite ettiquete (sp??) that you don't wear your hat indoors anyway, especially not at a meal or in church and why would a classroom be any different given the hat hides your head and eyes and so would make talking to the class a little distracting.
As for uniforms, I wholeheartedly support them. Its a lot less stressful when all you have to do is wear the same thing every day and you don't have to worry about whether anyone else will be wearing it too or what everyone else will be wearing and whether you will be wearing the right thing or whether you are rich enough and have the correct labels. Also it'd be alot less annoying if someone knicked your school shirt in P.E. rather than your fancy top you spent ages picking out and probably spent a fortune on not that anyone would want to knick a school shirt especially if its exactly the same as theirs. And then also there is the whole spilling chemicals on your clothes as well, I'd rather burn a hole in my school uniform.
And finally we have the whole issue of safety. If all of you are wearing the unifrom its very obvious who is the wrong one out...its also very obvious if you get lost on a school trip and could stop confused tourists accidently getting on your bus instead.

I am very anti-uniform. I think everyone should be allowed to wear whatever they want (well, as long as it's not too revealing at school) in order to show off their personality. I don't like the idea of everyone having to conform to one standard uniform. All the schools I went to were free dress and I'm very happy about that. There were rules against certain clothes, some of which I don't agree with. One thing is the no-hat policy. I just don't understand that. All through public school, we weren't allowed to wear hats inside. Other districts near us were.
Another thing is, the dress code needs to be age-appropriate. Something that's not appropriate in high school might be in elementary school. Example, spaghetti strap tops. They are banned in every school in my district. This make sense in middle/high school because they are kind of revealing. But in elementary school? Come on. Kids don't think like that when they're that age. And it gets really hot in the schools too in the spring/summer.
Letters- When I was eleven, I opened my own mail. Most of the mail I got was from the school (report cards and such) and I opened them and then my parents read them, too. I didn't have very many pen pals. Nor did I have my own e-mail address, which I got when I was 12.

Thanks, Fawkes! I realize that now.
I'm going to change it to 'The Surprise Visitor'. i.e. Teddy.
This is the second to last chapter, just to let everyone know.
Chapter 38: Graduation
"May I have your attention, please," Professor Kendrick stood up and announced at the End of Year Feast the a couple days later. Albus stopped talking to John and turned to face the Headmaster.
"Thank you," Kendrick continued once the Great Hall was quiet, "What a year, what a year. It is hard to believe that it is now June. The year has ended with quite a shock. I know that you all know by now what transpired on the grounds this past week."
Albus glanced around at his fellow students and saw that they were all turning to stare at him. He sunk down in his seat a little bit and tried to avoid their gaze.
"I want to assure you all that the Aurors are looking for both Professor Washburn and Jarett Willinson, as well as Quinton Willinson. Whether this was an isolated attack, I am not sure. But whether there are more attacks to come, I am sure we will all stand strong, and stand as one. Whatever is coming, we will deal with it. We have dealt with evil in the past and chances are we will deal with it in the future." Professor Kendrick paused and looked out at his students. Everyone had returned their gaze to him, and were no longer staring at Albus and his friends.
"Now, onto lighter matters. I have a few announcements, then the House Cup needs awarding. First, O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. results will be mailed partway through the summer, like usual. Second, the graduation ceremony will take place tomorrow, at ten o'clock. And lastly, as usual, I must remind you of the fact that using magic is prohibited while you are not in school over the summer.
"And now, the House Cup. In last place, Hufflepuff with 376 points." Kendrick announced. Albus clapped politely along with everyone else in the Hall. "Next, Gryffindor with 413 points." Albus groaned, as did everyone else sitting at the Gryffindor table. No doubt that the many points Washburn took from all of them helped assure that they did not get the House Cup. "In second place, with 452 points, Slytherin." There was a bit more polite applause, but none of it from the Gryffindor table. "And in first place, Ravenclaw with 563 points! Congratulations, Ravenclaw!" Kendrick waved his wand and the decorations transformed from their usual Hogwarts colors into the Ravenclaw blue.
Albus clapped his hands, while looking glumly at his plate. Oh, well, there was always next year. At least they'd gotten the Quidditch Cup.
"I think that is all that needs to be announced," Kendrick said once the applause died down, "And with that, enjoy the feast!" Kendrick waved his wand once again and food appeared on all the plates.
"We'll win it next year," John announced as he heaped his plate high with chicken, "But you know what, I'm going to miss this food over the summer...."
"'Course we'll win it next year," Albus agreed, "Washburn won't be here anymore to take off unfair points."
"You don't know who Kendrick'll get to replace him, though," Rose warned.
"Good point," Matt said as he buttered a piece of bread. He was still recovering from the full moon and wasn't that hungry. Normally, he wouldn't even be out of the Hospital Wing yet, but he had convinced Madam Pomfrey to let him attend the feast. "Do you know if your dad will be teaching DADA again next year?"
"Dunno," Albus shrugged. He hadn't really thought about it before, but Harry had come to teach DADA at a moment's notice, and maybe Kendrick really didn't have time to get anyone else. But now he'd have the whole summer.
"Hope he does," Matt replied, "Otherwise, we'll be getting two new teachers, and what are the chances that both of them will be nice?"
"Not high," Rose said. "I like having Uncle Harry teach here. I hope he comes back."
"Me, too," Albus agreed. John and Amanda nodded.
"Just hope our next Charms teacher is nicer," Amanda said, "Of course, it won't take much, will it?"
"Nope," Rose replied, "Won't take much at all."
******
Albus awoke the next morning with just enough time to catch a quick breakfast in the Great Hall before making his way to the grounds for the graduation.
"We'll see you after, when we're getting on the train," Rose said to John and Amanda as she got up from the table.
"Bye," John mumbled, his mouth full of toast.
"Have fun," Amanda waved.
Albus and Matt waved as they followed Rose out of the room. "Good thing it's sunny today," Albus commented, "Remember Teddy's? Last year?"
Rose laughed, "Oh, yeah, how could I forget that?"
"What happened?" Matt asked.
"Worst thunderstorm of the whole year," Albus grinned, "It's funny looking back on it, but it wasn't then. We got soaked, despite the tents Kendrick put up. Not to mention the wind, thunder, and lightning. Scared Lily out of her mind. Mum had to take her into the castle partway through."
"Glad it's not like that this year," Matt agreed. The three of them walked onto the grounds and over towards the chairs that had been set up by the lake. People were already milling about and finding seats. Albus spotted his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, all taking up practically half the seats.
"There's my mum and dad," Matt pointed to two people sitting down near where Albus's Aunt Fleur and Uncle Bill were, "Want to meet them?"
"Sure," Albus said and Rose nodded.
Matt started walking towards them, but once they noticed him, they came running towards the three of them and met them halfway. "Oh, Matthew! How are you? Are you feeling ok?" A short blond woman with an Australian accent enveloped Matt in a tight hug.
"Mum!" Matt said, his cheeks turning red, "I'm fine! Really, I am."
"Are you sure? You look a bit pale. Did you sleep well last night?" the blond woman asked anxiously, with her arms still wrapped around her son.
"I'm sure! I slept fine, really," Matt assured her.
"Julie, I think he's fine." The man, who Albus guessed was Matt's dad, pulled the woman off of Matt. He also had an Australian accent and was tall, with graying hair.
"Oh, all right," the woman sighed, "I just worry."
"I know, so do I," the man said quietly, then turned to Matt, "How was the end of term?"
"Great, really. Well, with the exception of what happened with Washburn," Matt told them.
"And you wonder why I worry so much," the woman said to the man, "I'm glad everything else was fine."
"Oh, these are my friends," Matt gestured to Albus and Rose, "Well, two of them anyway. Albus Potter and Rose Weasley. They're both Victoire's cousins, like I told you in my letters. Albus, Rose, this is my mum and dad."
"Pleased to meet you," Rose smiled and shook their hands.
"Hi," Albus shook their hands after Rose.
"Hello, dears," the woman gave them a warm smile.
"So you're the ones who set off fireworks in Professor Washburn's class?" Mr. Eckerton asked.
"Er, yeah," Albus answered nervously.
Matt's dad just laughed, "That sounds like something I'd have done in school. Of course, I did plenty of other stuff...." Mrs. Eckerton gave him a stern look. "Not that I'm saying you should pull pranks like that, of course. You should behave yourself in school, son," Mr. Eckerton said quickly to Matt.
Albus stifled a laugh and noticed his own parents, followed by his Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione walking over towards him. "Hi, Mum and Dad!"
Rose grinned and greeted her parents as well, "Hello, Mum, Dad."
"Albus!" Ginny let go of Lily's hand and wrapped her son in a big hug.
"Hi, Mum," Albus replied and rolled his eyes and Ginny finally let him go. He looked over and saw that Rose's parents were doing the same thing with her.
Albus gestured to Matt and his parents, "This is our friend, Matt. Well, you already know him, Dad," Albus laughed, "But anyway, these are his parents. And Matt, Mr. Eckerton, Mrs. Eckerton, those are my parents, and my Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione, who are Rose's parents. And my little sister Lily and Rose's little brother, Hugo."
"Nice to meet you," Matt's dad stuck out his hand. "Walter Eckerton. And my wife, Julie." The adults spent a few minutes exchanging hand shakes and pleasantries, while Albus and Rose introduced Matt to Lily and Hugo.
"How'd you get those cuts?" Hugo asked Matt loudly, gesturing to the partially healed cuts on Matt's arm. Since the full moon was only a couple days ago, they still hadn't completely healed. "Didja get 'em from that duel with Professor Washburn?" Hugo said excitedly, "'Cause that was awesome. Wish I'd been there. I woulda blasted him all the way from here to Hagrid's Hut!"
"Er, yeah, they're from the duel," Matt replied quickly.
"Wicked!" Hugo grinned. "Can't wait until I can come here."
"Just another year, Hugo," Albus smiled at his cousin. "But don't count on getting to duel with evil teachers. I'd rather not have had to do that."
"Me and Lily acted out the duel, didn't we, Lily?" Hugo told them. Lily nodded her head. Hugo continued, "I got to be Washburn, only I won. Lily ran away."
"Did not!" Lily shouted.
"Did too!" Hugo shouted back.
"Kids, calm down," Ginny said sternly.
"Mum, can Matt come stay with us over the summer? John, too, but he's in the castle. They can come for mine and Rose's birthday party," Albus asked.
"I don't see why not," Ginny smiled, "As long as it's ok with his parents."
"Can I go stay with Albus?" Matt asked his parents, "Please?"
"I don't know..." Mrs. Eckerton looked worriedly at her husband.
Mr. Eckerton glanced at his wife and replied, "We'll have to think about it."
"Oh, come on! Please?" Matt pleaded, "I'll be fine. Albus even said they'd have the party at, a, good time."
Harry seemed to catch onto what the Eckertons were worried about and gave them a meaningful gaze, "I understand your worry, but I'm sure Matt will be fine if he stays with us for a few days. And we will schedule the party at a good time."
The Eckertons still didn't look convinced, but Matt's dad said, "He probably will, but I'd still like to talk it over with Julie. We'll get back to you, all right?"
"That's fine," Harry replied.
Matt groaned, "You worry too much."
"Sometimes we have to worry," Matt's mum told him, "You know that."
"I know," Matt sighed.
"I think the ceremony's starting now," Harry announced. "We'll be in touch with the details of the party."
"Sounds good," Mrs. Eckerton replied.
"See you after, Matt," Albus waved. He and Rose followed their families to the chairs that were set up on the lawn. Albus sat down next to Rose and Harry and waited for the ceremony to begin.
There was a large stage set up in front of the chairs, with a tall podium embossed with the Hogwarts crest. Next to the podium was a table piled with Hogwarts diplomas. All the seventh years sat in the first few rows of chairs, dressed in their black Hogwarts robes and a wizard's hat.
After a few minutes, in which everyone who had been milling around and talking came and sat down, Professor Kendrick strode up to the podium and began talking. "Welcome, friends and family, to the graduation ceremony of the Hogwarts Class of 2017. I remember the first time these students stepped foot into Hogwarts. Many were excited and just as many were scared and nervous. Some thought they knew all of Hogwarts's secrets, and others hardly knew anything about the Wizarding World at all. But that did not matter. Because now, they all stand as one, equally prepared to take on the world around them. I believe that great things will happen to the people in this class and that they will do great things.
"This class is a special one to me. Every class at Hogwarts is special, but the year I became Headmaster was the year this class came to Hogwarts. I think that I was just as nervous as they were, if not more so." Kendrick paused as the audience laughed. "And I remember each one of their sortings. I remember Tyler Pike tripping over his own feet as he made his way to the stool. He's certainly come a long way from that, becoming captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. I also remember Olivia Kaden's smile as she was sorted into Hufflepuff and ran to join her sister at that table. And who could forget the loud shout of glee from Teddy Lupin as Victoire Weasley was sorted into Gryffindor."
Professor Kendrick continued his speech for another ten minutes. After he was done, each of the Heads of House went up to the podium and gave a speech as well. Albus liked Neville's speech the best. He talked about how proud he was of each and every Gryffindor that was graduating that day, and what made them special. Albus found it a bit difficult to pay attention to Professor Patil's speech about the Ravenclaws because she used such big words that Albus hardly knew what she was saying. He assumed it all meant that Professor Patil knew that all the Ravenclaws would wind up making great contributions to the Wizarding World in the discoveries of various things. Professor Polo gave a good speech about the Hufflepuffs, and then Slughorn gave one, but it didn't focus much on the Slytherins. His speech mainly consisted of listing who he had taught at Hogwarts, and how famous they are now. He spent a good portion of it talking about how he had taught Harry. Albus saw his dad grimace as Slughorn mentioned what a marvelous potions brewer he had been. Albus had to stifle a laugh at that, because he knew the story of Snape's potions book and how Harry had wound up with it in his sixth year.
Professor Kendrick took the podium once Slughorn had finished, "Thank you, Professors Longbottom, Patil, Polo, and Slughorn. Now, two outstanding students shall speak on behalf of their class. First, Head Boy Tyler Pike. And then, Head Girl Victoire Weasley."
Tyler Pike took the podium and began his speech. It was a long-winded speech full of more words Albus didn't understand, much like Professor Patil's had been. Must be a Ravenclaw thing, he thought. Albus glanced at Rose and noticed she was paying rapt attention. Maybe she should have been in Ravenclaw.
Once Tyler concluded his speech, Victoire stepped up to the podium. She waited for the crowd to stop their applause for Tyler's speech and then she began. "Wow, what a crazy seven years it's been!" she paused and smiled at the audience. "I remember our first day here. I was scared, we were all scared. Short first years, lost in a sea of older students, and now we're at the top. Over the past seven years we have not only gotten an education that will serve us throughout our entire lives, but we have forged friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Memories. In the end, that's all we've got. I know I speak for us all in saying that the memories we've made here at Hogwarts are some of the best we have. It hasn't always been easy and not all the memories are good ones. We've all lost the House Cup at least once in the past seven years, we've lost Quidditch matches, failed tests, and had fights with friends. But now isn't the time to dwell on those memories. Right now we should remember the good times. The times we did win the House Cup, the spectacular wins in Quidditch, the tests we've aced, and the fact that our friendships are strong enough to withstand a few rows.
"I'm sure we all have mixed feelings about leaving Hogwarts. I know I do. This castle has been our home away from home for the past seven years. A good portion of our lives have been spent here. It will be sad to leave Hogwarts behind, but this moment is what we've been working towards ever since we stepped off the train when we were 11. Hogwarts has prepared us, not only academically, but socially, for the world before us. We are ready, we can go into the world and make something of ourselves. When you look out at the class behind me, don't just look at us as the Hogwarts Class of 2017. Look at us as the future Healers, Aurors, researchers, and who knows, maybe even the future Minister of Magic. So, in conclusion, we are ready to face the world. Whatever it has in store for us, we will be able to take it on. Using our different talents, we as a group will be able to take whatever the world has to throw at us."
The audience broke out into loud applause. Albus clapped along with them. He thought Victoire's speech had been much better than Tyler's and judging by the applause, everyone else thought so, too. The applause died down as Victoire went back to her seat and Kendrick took up the podium once again.
"Thank you, Tyler and Victoire," he nodded his head in their direction, "Now it is time to present the diplomas." Kendrick waved his wand and the podium moved to the side, while the table with the diplomas moved to the center of the stage. The four heads of houses got up and stood next to the table. Kendrick stood on the other side and picked up the first diploma. "Katelyn Isabelle Asterly," he called out.
A tall, red haired Hufflepuff stood up and walked over to the headmaster. She took her diploma and shook Kendrick's hand. Then she shook all the heads of houses' hands and walked off the stage. She walked the short distance to the lake. Albus watched her and noticed that Hagrid was standing there. The boats they had crossed the lake on earlier in the year were sitting on the calm water.
The headmaster continued to call off names. Albus recognized a few of them, but most of them were people he had just seen occasionally.
"Amy Marie Eckerton," Kendrick called out a short while later. Albus and Rose clapped loudly as Matt's sister accepted her diploma and walked over to the growing group of seventh years near the lake.
Albus watched as Kendrick called out more names. He recognized the two Slytherins that had hexed him earlier in the year. Neither he or Rose clapped for them. They politely clapped for everyone else. Albus also recognized the Quidditch captain, Samantha Meyers and clapped a bit louder for her.
The crowd of seventh years on the stage diminished until there were only two left. "Victoire Fleur Weasley," Kendrick announced. Albus and Rose clapped louder than they had for anyone else as their cousin shook Kendrick's hand. Albus heard Teddy whistle and give a loud shout of 'Go Victoire!' as she shook Neville's hand. Professor Patil shot him a stern look and he quieted down. Albus had to stifle a laugh. Even after you graduate, you still have to listen to the professors, he thought.
"Cameron Alexander Zabino," Kendrick called once Victoire had crossed the stage. A burly looking Slytherin accepted his diploma and joined his class by the lake.
Kendrick waved his wand and the table disappeared. The podium moved back to the center of the stage and Kendrick stood behind it. "In the past seven years, the students in this class have learned a great deal about magic and life in general. These skills will help them as they pursue the careers and dreams of their choosing. It is time for them to journey from Hogwarts, on the same boats they arrived her on seven years ago. The first time they crossed this lake, they were both excited and scared about what Hogwarts had in store for them. As they cross the lake once more, they are more confident, but still excited and a bit scared about what the world has in store for them. I know I speak for us all when I say I'm sure they will do great things."
Kendrick nodded his head towards the group of seventh years. The students climbed into the boats and Hagrid got into the one in front. He brandished his pink umbrella and bellowed, "Forward!" The boats all started moving, taking the seventh years away from Hogwarts and towards the new adventures that awaited them as adults.

Galena watched as Piers walked towards the Ravenclaw table. She had remembered why his name sounded so familiar. Penelope Clearwater, his mother, had been in her year. She was a Ravenclaw, and Galena was a Hufflepuff, but their paths had crossed on occasion. And his father must be Percy Weasley. Galena laughed to herself as she remembered Percy, the Prefect who told her off for pulling pranks on Slytherins. She hoped Piers would be happy with his house, but couldn't help but wonder what it would be like, since his cousins are all in Gryfifndor.
Galena scanned the list and called out the next name. "Damien, Linda." A tall girl with wavy brown hair ran forward. The hat lingered on her head for a few minute before it called out, "Ravenclaw!".
The girl ran over to the Ravenclaw table and sat next to Piers as Galena called out, "Dursley, Arthur!"

Piers shuffled forwards and nervously put the hat on his head.
A few minutes passed.
"The thing is," the hat said, after a short conversation. "you're not actually very brave. Are you?"
"Er... no."
"You'd do so much better in a house that suits you. RAVENCLAW!"
Piers took off the hat and stared at it, and the Ravenclaw table cheered. Numbly, he walked towards them, with a worried glance towards Albus and then James.
