As Stan dragged his feet up the stairs, he tried to remember to vague details of the headmaster's speech in his mind. It was all blurry, his eyes had started to glaze over as soon as Argyle opened his mouth.

He made some last minute arrangements for his first class in the morning, and then went to bed.

Professor Taseff returned to her room after the staff meeting. She smiled when she opened the door; it was so peaceful, from the way it was decorated to the sandalwood incense and the lighting. She collapsed on her chair and conjured up a cup of tea. She sighed.
"So." she said out loud. She leaned forward and pulled off a bit of purple velvet cloth from something sitting in the middle of her table. It was a crystal orb. She stared into it's misty depths. She ran her left hand over it, and looked again.
"Mmmm..." she said dreamily.

Rowena yawned a little- the headmaster just had that sort of soporific voice. Resolving to go over what had been said the next day, she made her way up the few flights of stairs to her room.

Closing the door, and absently casting a few wards, Rowena found her bed and sank into it's soft mattress quite gladly.
"Make sure I'm up by six, please Nox?" she murmured, the purr of reply barely reaching her ears before she fell sound asleep.

Marc Demont, Head of Slytherin, was well known for his alias - The 'Demon' Professor. Notorious for his short fuse temper, many of the student feared him and his harsh punishment. Many had initially thought he would favoured his Slytherin students more but on the contrary, he was extremely strict with his own house.

Lily awoke with a start. Something had hit her head. A pink projectile flew through the airand hit her squarely in the nose. She grabbed at it and found that it was a small eraser.
"Peeves!" she screamed into the thin air. Lily grabbed a pillow and chucked it through the cold morning air. She heard a high pitched cackling noise As the poltergeist flew from the room.
Lily swung her legs around and climbed out of bed.

Stan was jumpy all through breakfast. He had had a bad dream, verging on nightmarish. He often had the dream; nothing he could do would prevent its return.

It was the pair of eyes. Dinas' eyes, as he was watching the terror unfolding in the forest.

As Stan leant over to pour milk on his cereal, he froze and shivered, remembering the vision of the dead body of Sharpe on the ground next to him.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" he jumped in surprise. He had spilt the milk on Rowena's robe.

Hastily, Rowena scrabbled for her wand. Smiling at Stan, she said "Hey, don't worry about it- they're not exactly new."

Finding the wand underneath a few slices of toast, she cast a quick cleaning spell and glanced around the hall. A couple of the kids had noticed and were snickering behind their hands- but a knowing look in their direction shut them up.

"Anyway, is something wrong?" Rowena asked, turning back to Stan with a slight look of concern. "You're very pale, and you've been twitchy since you came in."

Kaitlyn walked into the Great Hall bright and early the next morning. She always liked the first day of classes. On her right was her friend Natalie, looking just as cheery and excited as Kaitlyn was. Cedric was to the left of her, and he looked extremely tired. Kaitlyn laughed, he had never been a morning person.

"I don't see why we have to be down here so early," Cedric yawned.

"I'm Head Girl, I have to watch over things," Kaitlyn told him.

"Well, the teachers can do that," Cedric muttered, "It's too damn early to watch over the little kids."

Kaitlyn laughed again and helped herself to some scrambled eggs. Halfway through breakfast, her head of house came around and handed out schedules. She immediately looked at it and saw that they had Charms with Professor Edwards first. Kaitlyn liked Charms, even though it wasn't her favorite. She'd rather have Charms than History of Magic for her first class.

Cedric glanced over at her schedule, "You still haven't dropped History of Magic?"

"No, it's a useful subject, even if it is dreadfully boring," Kaitlyn answered. Kaitlyn had not dropped any of her subjects after her O.W.L.s. Cedric had dropped quite a few. Sometimes Kaitlyn wondered how he could have wound up in Ravenclaw. Kaitlyn on the other hand, was the epitome of a Ravenclaw. She loved learning and the only class she didn't enjoy was History of Magic.

"Oh, it's nothing," he said. "Just a bad dream."

She gave him a knowing look. He just shrugged and put down his fork. "I have the seventh years first, I'll see you later. Good luck for your first day, by the way."

A newspaper headline caught his eye as he half-turned away from Rowena toward his exit. Dinas wanted to place a representative of the Ministry at all meetings between 5 or more muggle-borns. Stan frowned.

"Thanks, good luck with the seventh years," she replied. Turning back to her breakfast, Rowena realised she'd lost her apetite. Even after 7 years, Dinas still had a hold on them- his various proposals merely reinforced that.

With a sigh she departed the table and headed to her classroom. Her first lesson was going to be the third-year Gryffindors and Slytherins, and she had to make sure no one tried to curse anyone outside. Prejudiced Minister, prejudiced parents, prejudiced kids- not all of them of course, but enough to cause trouble since her Sixth year.

"Hurry up! We don't have all day." The seventh years had been wandering around the class trying to pick a good seat for three or four minutes, chattering away to themselves.

"Sit down!" Stan sighed, exasperated.

Katelyn sat in the front desk with Natalie next to her. She was eager to start class, but everyone else was goofing off. Cedric being one of them.

"Oh, just sit down, Ced!" she shouted at him. He had been levitating his books and aiming them at a couple Slytherins in the back.

"Fine," he muttered and sat down behind Katelyn and Natalie.

Katelyn pulled out her book, some parchment, and a quill, and waited for class to start.

"The seventh year course is difficult," he began. "There is no easy pass for NEWT Charms. You will be required to work productively for sustained periods of time without reprieve. This year's course is very different from last year's, which as you know was more about quantity than quality in most ways.

"Where last year was about learning a wide variety and a very long list of medium level charms for use in your future day to day lives," (some of the students scoffed) "this year the list of spells that you will learn is much shorter, but the skill required is immense.

"If mastered, you will become entirely different wizards and witches by the time you leave Hogwarts next year."

The long trekking to the depth of the forest easily tired the first years. Not to mention, the various sight and sound of the forbidden forest frightened them especially after their seniors told them scary tales about the creatures residing in here.

"Follow me, class... and don't stray too far away..." Professor Demont shouted out to the first years, which was followed by a series of howls. This made the students followed closely behind.

Fourteen-year-olds combined with transfiguration review just did not mix. They were like oil and water. It was only half-way threw the period and already she had had to regrow an eyebrow, turn two peoples skintones back to their usual state, and confiscate a box of assorted Weasley Wheezes.
"Serves me right for letting them turn owels in to china," Lily thought as their was a crash that sounded like a troll had just entered Madam Pudifoot's Tea Shop. "Oh well," she sighed under her breath as she pulled out her wand and headed toward the shocked student. "At least I didn't try to teach them anything new today."
