But really would Malfoy want to be around anyone who has anything to do with muggles, interesting though...

I'm not for sure which galaxy you pulled that question from, but...

I don't think Malfoy has any respect for Muggles. I mean, even nice wizards think that Muggle things are inferior (Mrs. Weasley despises Muggle transportation and the crazy Muggle methods of healing), so wizards who are hung up on pure blood would most certainly want nothing to do with Muggles...

However, I would definately imagine that a Muggle sweatshirt and jeans would be a LOT more comfy than robes...

I'm gonna throw my lot in with Nobby:
I think their only wearin muggle clothes during hogsmead weekends and holidays? Don't they still wear robes during term time. If they do it wont matter that much will it.

And I've got a question...in the preview, shouldn't it be Mr. Weasley who tells Harry NOT to go looking for Sirius...I mean that's who it is in the book...I mean all the children in the background would just be those on Platform 9 and 3/4...And all the children wore muggle clothes onto the train...just adding my two cents...

It's been so long since I've seen the trailer, I don't remember... who says it?

Every time the kids go on the train, they change into their robes en route... so on the platform, they would have still been in muggle clothes.

I wasn't happy about it as soon as I heard about that happening (before movie was released) but it is okay, i guess...
but also, anyone notice if the first and second years wear their robes? and remember in the first two all the older kids wore their robes? it is irritating--they really messed it up... <_<

What do you think about this, will it rinder the movie or not make too much difference. For me it ruins the feel of being at Hogwarts. I want to see the trio at Hogwarts in robes becuase thats what is in the books. The books never mention them wearing muggle clothing, except during holidays. Kind of makes me mad

ME TOO!!! but my friends said that they could be out of dress on weekends... :(

Me too. Hermione wearing jeans and a pink sweater (I have a similar one, how strange)...I admit it might be realistic that they don't wear school robes at weekends, but running around in the latest muggle fashion? Hermione asking whether that is the way her hairstyling looks from behind? I know the director wanted to make it more like real life, but what kind if explanation is that? How can "reality" be a criterion for a Harry Potter film, like "I wanted to make sure that Harry's just a normal teenager, just like the audience, with normal problems and stuff, only with the teeny-tiny difference that an evil, almost unhuman, red-eyed parseltongue tried to kill him as a baby, but the curse backfired. Ah yes, and there's the little thing that he hears his parents dying when he faces the personification of fear, and...come on, have your pets never turned out to be treacherous mass murderers?"

I soooo hate that film, if I ever meet the director...say a prayer for him, he'll need it.

he was adapting the movie, siana. dont get too angry. it made an interesting movie, and when a movie just adapts from the book, and always sticks to it, it is good, but boring. no one but real fans would want to see it. the director wanted to make a good movie, not a homage to harry potter, and he changed some of it. anyway, lots of the kids seem to want to wear muggle clothes in the books as well. especially people who grew up with muggles, or muggle-borns. its a sign of wizard society moving on, and believe me, it needs to. gramaphones, i ask you.

It isn't just the street clothes the rest of the time, the books ignored the way a wizard should look. Even in movies, wizards have had a certain look about them, and this look included robes and capes. To deviate from this is to ignore what we know about wizards so far for the tases of a few people. It would not have made the movies any less to add a costume change. Another major thing about the HP books is both it's appeal to a mass audience and it's complex and sweeping plot in the midst of a world of magic. Both thigns were ignoed for the movie. They didn't want to bother makng accurate outfits because they didn't think kids would like it, I find that very wrong, and then they ignore most of the plot of the movies to focus on the big special effects. They ignored the subplots and wemt straight for the big prouction, sometimes even changing things completely for the director's perogative. Instead of taking the time to build on how Harry's father is bearing on his life, they spent all that time on a quifditch game each movie. Somehow, it they had cut that short, it would have made for a better movie plot wise.

Let's face it, they sc***ed the pooched with the movies

Well, I think he did a terrible job...just look at that werewolf!
No, honestly, I agree with what you say, and I think it worked out in the first two movies. I was not all too delighted when they cut out the back story why Snape hated Harry's father etc, but I still found the first two adaptions all right. However, what the new director did to such a great book does make me angry.

Exactly, why did they change directors, when the first one worked so well

I have no idea, I don't care, maybe he didn't want to do another film, anyway, I didn't say they worked sooo well, just better than number three. As I understood, you weren't all too fond of the movies either... And that last director isn't going to come back either.

Personally, the third movie was my favourite of the three so far. I felt that the first two films were too close to the book, and didn't really have much to add to a story that I already knew quite well. I mean, films like this are supposed to be adaptations, not carbon copies.

Still, I will readily admit that the third film had its flaws. The flying dementors were a stupid idea, and the werewolf should have been scarier. The shrieking shack scene would be confusing as all hell for those who have not read the books, and could have been handled much better. And I didn't like the way they portrayed patronuses and omited James/Prongs either.

Still, all in all I felt that the director did a decent enough job.
