At the start of the first film when Dudley is in the snakes cage, when he climbs out of the water to get out of the cage he doesnt know the glass is there does he? So why does he put both hands out flat against the glass as iff he knows its there?

maybe it was an automatic reaction...hes in shock cos hes in a snake cage and the snake just slithered past him...but he does see the glass only it doesnt register till he puts his hands on it...then he realises he put his hands on glass and panicks

Well, I always noticed that. Because my automatic reaction would have been to put my hands on the bottom edge or something, to hold myself up while I climb out....not right in front of my face.
Perhaps it's just one of those movie facade deals...it's all about the imagination

Or prehaps he could see the glass had re-appeared (from the light reflections) and knew he was trapped?

The movie may have oscar worthy effects and stuff, but the actors are kids, I think it was bad acting like the rest of the movie
