Voldemort And Tom Marvollo Riddle

This is not a real Theory, just more like a 'thinking' thread... But do you think Voldemort knows about his diary and aboutthe opening of the Chamber of the secreats in Harry's second year? And could he know about Ginny being possessed?

hmmm... first off, are you talking about whether or not Voldy knows the diary with the preserved memory is out there, or that it's already been put to use?

I would imagine he knows about it... Lucius Malfoy, after all, was the one responsible for getting it into Ginny's hands, and I would imagine sometime someone mentioned it to him. We know he's been getting news somehow, he knew Harry was at Hogwarts, he's been able to find out certain teachers who are at Hogwarts... But all this is, of course, assumption, since it's never mentioned again around Voldy... Since Tom Riddle in Chamber of Secrets is a preserved memory, would the older Voldy's memory alter as Tom has more experiences?

This is a rally good question actually. i dont know. i mean if he's a memory then that would suggest that he is separate from the actual voldermort, or tom riddle.
but i do think that voldermort would definately know about the chamber of secrets being opened, like athena said lucius would have got word to voldermort about it

Well, after thinking a bit about it, I'm almost doubting whether Lucius (anyone else ever almost type his name as Luscious?) would have told Voldemort about it himself. The plan, after all, was a technical failure, as no one was killed, everyone knew the truth by the end, and there's no more basilisk to go around tormenting people... However, I think this is a moot point, as I still feel like Voldemort would have found out about it happening somehow, if not from Malfoy, from somewhere else...

I would imagine he'd know. Malfoy might have used it as a sign his loyalties was still with Voldemort, Peter would have blabbed everything he knew, and Barty Crouch, Jr., might have told the works as well.

So, it seems Voldemort knows about the opening of the Chamber of the Secrets... He knows, of course, about the diary. So he should know "he" possessed Ginny! How do you think he feels, knowing he has possessed a "filthy" pure-blood wizard?

I think he'd feel pretty good, actually...

But I'm not entirely sure he knows it was Ginny... depends on how much news he got and from who... If, say, someone close to the situation (like Malfoy) told him, I'd imagine he'd know details. If he heard it on the street, he's probably hear something like "Did you hear the Chamber of Secrets was opened again after all this time?" "No way!" "Yeah, apparently a student was posessed and did it, so no one got in trouble." Somethin like that... now, naturally, since his teenage-self knew that the only way the chamber could be opened again was to use the memory-in-the-diary thing, then he would know generally what happened, but not necessarily whose hands the diary got into...

ummm... if the plan had worked (aka someone had died), I think Malfoy would have definately told Voldy about it. But it didn't. The plan was a failure, and now the memory has been destroyed, so no one can open the Chamber again... so I don't think Malfoy would be too keen to bring it up with Voldy... I mean, imagine how that conversation would go:

"Dark Lord, I am responsible for getting the Chamber of Secrets open!"

"Eeeeeexcellent!" (a la Mr. Burns) "How many mudbloods died?"

"Well, none, my lord, but I did get four or five kids and a cat petrified! Aren't you proud of me?"

mayb Voldy will then use his connection with Ginny to posess her again?

Maybe, cuz she didn't learn her lesson and J.K.Rowling is really really desperate for ideas.

It's all in the conversation between Malfoy and Ron+Harry disguised as Crabbe+Goyle (on account of Polyjuice).

Malfoy says his father has the floor of the house full of dark magical objects. He had the diary and, when he fights against Arthur in Florish and Blotts (sp), he leaves the diary in Ginny's cauldron... Wonder if he already knew he was going to give the diary to Ginny, or if he was just going to give it to some Hogwarts students (or perhaps he would give it to Malfoy...)

I havn't read the 4th book in ages, but I'm pretty sure at the end when Voldy is talking to Harry he says all the times that he was thwarted by Harry. I'm pretty sure he said about the second year.

nah... Malfoy spends a great deal of time, energy, and MONEY making sure he doesn't get caught and get in trouble for his dark arts activities. If Draco were caught with the diary, it could be easily associated with Lucius. I think Lucius expected whoever got caught with the diary and opened the Chamber to get into all kinds of trouble, which is why he gave it to a Weasley instead of someone he likes. He knew that it would cause a sensation that a child of Arthur Weasley was responsible for killing (because that's what he WANTED to have happen) mudbloods. He'd want to keep his own son's record clean.

CoS provides several hints as to where Malfoy gets the diary. Like Jotomicron said, when Potter-Crabbe and Weasley-Goyle (or vice-versa, I don't remember) are talking with Malfoy, he says his father has all kinds of Dark Arts items... Also, in Chapter 4, Malfoy is in Borgin and Burkes, selling off some of his Dark Arts items before he has to be on his way to "tend to some important business"... interestingly enough, we run into Lucius Malfoy a few minutes later in Flourish and Blotts, giving Ginny a sneaky diary... Either his business wasn't so important that he could stop in and have a chat, or finding Ginny and the other Weasleys at Flourish and Blotts (and passing on the diary) WAS his important business...
