Siruis as a Painting

Postby Marcus Baker » Wednesday 21 January 2004 5:20:04pm

I dont know if you guys discussed this yet, I remember discussing it somewhere, but what do you think about Sirus as a painting? I mean, it would bring a little bit of Sirius back wont it? I mean, you can talk to ppl inside paintings cant you? Plus, if your in a painting, you can run thorough other paintings, and have painting friends, and paintings such as the Fat Lady and Sir Cadogan talk back to harry. I think of it as a nice way for Sirus to still be alive (or still in existance)

It would be cool if Sirius could 'live again' in a painting. I hated that he had to die. But how do they actually do the painting? Does it have to be done before they die?

The questions we have to ask ourselfs is if you can paint ppl who are dead, and will they come back to life. well, a bigger question, HOW DO U PAINT A PAINTING IN THE WIZARDING WORLD??? LOL. Well, if you are allowed to paint ppl who are dead, then Sirus might come back as advice. Also, do u think Harry will be able to talk to the wanted posters??? Lol, thought not.

I think that this was mentioned in another thread about sirius coming back as a ghost. I think that JK will probably mention this in the next book, because if we think how much we want sirius back then JK would portray how harry must also want him back too. It seems like the logical thing for harry to first question sirius as a ghost, but second as a painting.

I think it would be awesome to have Sirius come back as a portrait. Something i just remembered while reading this is Dobby's Christmas gift to Harry in Book 5... a portrait of Harry! I dont know what Harry did with it, but i think it should be used...could harry "live through" the portrait? I realize it was a really bad painting, but that would make it even cooler...a "gibbon with two black eyes" running around...that would be great.

lol, that would be really funny actually

But i think that the portraits actually have to look a lot like the person, ie almost a photograph, but i think that because it's a painting and a lot more time and effort goes into making it there is something a little bit more special about it, and thus captures more than just the visual appearence of the person.

Yep... I think that to make a picture think as the person portraited, there must be some spell that you need to do before that person dies! And, of course, you must use lots of dedication to make the portrait to look like the character.

As for photos, I think they can't speak at all (have we ever heard one?) They just "are" there, moving, saying goodbay with their hands, etc...

Doesn't Colin tell us in Book 2 that the magic behind the moving photographs is in the darkroom (like whatever developer you use). Maybe you have to have that "chemical" mixed in with the paint to make a portrait interact.
Don't know if the portrait can be done after death, we aren't given any dates of the sittings, only the dates of deaths...

I think that is a great idea about Dobby's painting, Centaur Lord! It wouldn't surprise me at all if JKR used something like that later in the series. It would be like Moody putting the herbology book into the ideal location. Something you don't think about at first, but later is important. Maybe because Dobby thought of Harry when he did it, and it may not be good, but it has everything that he feels about harry put into it, then maybe a simple spell will bring it to life. That would be cool. Maybe using magic to extract serius' memories from his body (which we'll say for argument's sake was left perfectly intact behind the veil) and placing the memories into a porttrait of him will make it think like him. I think he's gone, but a portrait would be a nice way to remember him!

I'm not sure if Sirius will come back or not. I certainly don't think it will be as a living person. Perhaps at the end of 7 Harry will be revisited by Sirius and his parents somehow (like at the end of the film Ghost whem Demi Moore can see Patrick Swayze), just to say hello/goodbye.

I doubt it, just because his mother considered him a blood traitor and blew him off the family tree tapestry. He had no intentions of ever going back to #12 Grimmauld Place again, and I don't think either he or his mother would hang a portrait of him up there.
