I must say it makes sense...
Anyway, I think both the theories are good the same (I mean, either James's or Peter's voice). I think that if it were Peter's, in my opinion it would mean that Voldemort had good reasons for not killing Lily.
But which reasons ?
This is the question...

That's a very good point Albus!

Maybe he didnt' wan to kill Lily so that she coudl testify that Peter was there trying to save her...

Oh, but when had Voldie evern been concerned wether his DE's or whatever got caught or not?

Oh, but wait, then I supose Peter was very useful as a spy, wasn't he!

(Dont' you love it when I agrue with myself??? )

Anyways, excellent point Albus! ;)

I thought about posting this yesterday, but then thought I wouldn't do it, because I saw a flaw in what I wanted to say, but as nobody's posted since, I'll do it anyway.

Why didn't Peter tell the whole truth in the Shack? He was soo extremely scared then, what with Sirius about to kill him, that you'd think he would tell the truth to satisfy him/them.

So what do you think? I know, it's not really good stuff, but hey, it's something :P!

What, you mean tell them that he was an informant? Or that (if the theory's true) he was at the Potters house the night of the murdering??? :???:

I was thinking of the last, that he was at the house, because they allready knew that he was the informant, because he was the secretkeeper and voldemort suddenly knew where the potters lived..

Well, these are the possible reason's I'm thinking...

1) He didnt' want to let them in on anymore than they already knew (He didnt' confess to anything else after all, ie when he changed sides, what else he's blabbed about)

2) He didnt' want to enrage then any further by telling details. Remember, he was looking for a sympathy vote to spare his life...(which he got from Harry)

3)... I dont' know... I ran out of ideas??? :D

Yeah, nr.2 was the flaw I'd come across myself : )

Darn it, either my brains aren't working, or this is one hell of a theory :P!

Well, personally, I'm going for the 'one hell of a theory' option...
But then I might be slightly biased!!! ;)

hehehehe!

NOpe, that wouldn't work, 'cause if a person has a secret keeper, they can't be found, right? Wasn't the idea that "he could have his face pressed against their living room window and not know where they are"? So he couldn't have killed James, not being able to see him. Or perhapers that is wrong, Peter might have told Voldie several hours before... Ack! I hope i understand the Secret-keeper idea, but it doesn't really make sense, why wouldn't DD just become Harry's secret-keeper and then Voldie couldn't ever get him? I must be wrong.

But i donno about this theory -- the stumbling from the room isn't a problem to me. Picture: Lily is with Harry in one room, James is outside the room and sees Voldie coming. He shouts to warn Lily and she stumbles for the exit (assuming there are two, or that she was desperate enough not to think that she shouldn't use that door.) holding Harry. James gets killed , then as Lily is fleeing, she is cornered and we have the death scene. Whaddaya think?

DD offered himself for the Secret Keeper (it is said in PoA, Harry Ron and Hermione overhear that while they're at the Three Broomsticks) but it were James and Lily who chose Sirius (and then Peter), probably because James thought he could trust his friends above all.

The theory you say is O.K., it is I think the most obvious one, but the point is that "Holly's theory" may be O.K. too:

Peter informs LV of the place where Lily and James hide, so the Secret-Keeper thing now is over, useless. LV kills James not at the Potters' hiding but elsewhere. Peter goes to Lily's and informs her LV is coming. Why ?
1) He was looking for an aliby
2) He wanted to give his friends a chance to save themselves (but when he arrives James is no more there - where he is - that is the mistery)
3) Something else
So the voice we hear is Peter's, not James's, then when LV arrives he kills Lily, tries to kill Harry etc.. etc...

Personally, I prefer the version with James's voice, but I must admit that even "Holly's" is absolutely possible (if we don't find any bug)

Tuima: with teh secret keeper thing... The person (peter in this case) was keepinghte secret of where the Potter's lived. So, if someone saw oneof them walking down the street, they would still recognise them.

Remember with 12 Grimwald Place... DD wrote the note, and Harry read it. When he thought about the address, only then did it appear visible to Harry... I would assume that it was like that with the Potters house too. No one woudl be able to see it, unless they had been told of it's location by the secret keeper!

And about D ebign Harry's secret keeper... Well, the location of a house can be a secret, whereas a person cannot be a secret... (does that make sense, if not, I can explain further later on! :D)

It doesn't make sense! Because it was a secret wasn't it, people thought Sirius had been the secret keeper, while it was Pettigrew all along..

What I mean is a location, such as where a house is, can be a secret. ie, I can tell you that i have placed something somewhere and no one else knows about it. That's a secret.

A person though, such as Harry Potter, cannot be a secret. What woudl happen, woudl he become invisivle. So DD couldnt' be a secret=keeper for Harry, and thus protect him from Voldie, like Tiuma suggested. He could be a secret Keeper for where the Dursleys live, so that Voldie could never find that place (so not be able to find harry on the holidays) but not for Harry himself. How does a person become a secret?

Boy, did that go round and around in circles!!! I really should try to explain stuff when I'm in a hurry, huh!
