Ron and Harry's New Power

Postby Broken Machine » Monday 9 June 2003 5:22:13am

I can't believe I haven't heard anything from anybody about this. In The Goblet of Fire when Harry and Ron are working on their Divination homework they make a ton of predictions that come true leading me to believe that they are able to predict the future. Harry says he will be in danger of getting burns and Ron says "Yeah, you will be". Days later Harry faces a dragon in the first task. A fire breathing dragon. "Why don't you get stabbed in the back by someone you thought was a friend", Ron told Harry. Days later Ron and Harry get into a fight and Harry feels as if though Ron has stabbed him in the back. (and likewise). Although he places drowning down twice Ron does almost drown in the second task. I can't say for sure that Harry and Ron can 100% perdict the future (prediction is not an absolute power) but I do believe that it will be a factor in the next book. Maybe this is why Harry keeps seeing this circular room in his dreams. He's predicting where something will happen.

Wow broken I haven't noticed that; it is very interesting.

But I'm not sure they have powers, maybe it was a way for Jo to give us some hints of what would happen.

you know the main thing harry predicts...in his exam he predicts buckbeak flying away and not loosing his head and buckbeak does do exactly that

i mean it does sound alot like coincidence but they do seem to have predicted quite alot....they are doing just as good as (if not better than) professor trelawney arent they...

Whoa! Excellent, I'd never noticed that before!

Perhaps Ron has a special divining power? Or maybe Harry, much I'd like it a lot more if Ron had a power of his own. Either way, it's definitely a hint at what's to come!

I was thinking the same thing. That it was Ron that was making all the predictions but after reading the chapter where their doing their divination homework both Ron and Harry are making some guesses that end up becoming true. What power does Ron have by the way?

As far as we know, only the ability for chess.

And the final exam of Harry in which he "sees" buckbeak flying away was only because he wanted that to happen.

You know its funny. I was watching a program on the history channel about Russia and their campaign on the power of mind control as a weapon. There was a defect from Russia that came to America (if memory serves me right), who challanged the Russian chess champion. It so happened that he had never lost a game, either of them. Well Russia sent in this suppossed brain control guy that sweated the defect so bad with psychological warfare while standing off to the side that the defect ended up losing the championship. I know its a long shot but maybe Ron's ability to win at chess is a tie in with his ability to predict or even to have the ability to have some sort of psychological attributes. I couldn't stand it if all Ron was ever good at during his whole run in the HP series was being emotional support and the comic relief.

i totally didn't catch that broken machine.i just reread that book for like the 3rd time and it didn't click.that is just brillinat it really is and maybe ron's power could be stronger than harry's to predict the future b/c ron and harry always play chess together so thats why ron always wins is b/c his is stronger, but its just a thought

Um. Right, but when Ron agrees that Harry will get burnt, he was talking about visiting the skrewts at Hagrid's that week.

"Okay . . . on Monday, I will be in danger of -er- burns."

"Yeah, you will be," Said Ron darkly, "we're seeing the skrewts again on Monday. Okay,Tuesday, I'll . . . erm . . ."

I think that might be like a distractor from Jo; because usually her clues aren't obvious.
