Spells...

Postby Holly Golightly » Monday 9 June 2003 8:05:58pm

Okies, I have wondered about this all through the series, and finally decided to ask...

Does anyone ahve any ideas as to why sometimes the Professors don't seem to need to say anything when they are casting spells...
I mean, sometimes JK writes that they said a word, sometimes, that they mutered the spell, but quite often, that they said nothing at all...

Does anyone else think that this is a little strange??? *or am I just weird!*

I think that it just has to do with how powerful a wizard you are. I mean, Dumbledore is quite obviously more powerful than Colin Creevy and it fits that he'd be able to perform magic more readily than Colin could. Even when Harry was getting angry about something, he was able to perform magic without the use of his wand. I guess it just has to do with your capabilities and how much you need that magic done!

i think the wand just channels it and organises it...if you do magic without a wand its more random luck if you hit the right object with the correct amount of magic...obviously dumbledore would be able to control magic without a wand better than a first year....it proabably comes with experience and talent how well you can control magic without a wand

it maybe works aswell for the powerful wizards and witches if they just think the words rather than say them....

It seems that saying the words are only for concentrating in the spell, that should be the same as thinking them. So the more power that you require for a spell the more you have to say the spell, something that canbe donde easily canbe donde without the words.

For me a spell always requires some words, but I agree that they not necessary have to be pronounced, sometimes it's enough just to think them.

So maybe the wand isn0t requiere sometimes, it is only used to focus, so if you are very powerful you can focus with out the wand.
