I think elves can do powerful magic without wands, but they need their masters permission before they can use it. At least that's what it is for house elves. Are there other kinds of elves that aren't enslaved?

wild elves? There must be loads of untamed elves out there since there are giants, trolls...perhaps house elves are a classification. There are plenty of elves out there! That is what I think

I guess elves are magical being themselves so they can do magic without wand. Wizards, too, can also do magic without wand. Harry made the glass wall disappeared without wand.

Maybe they need the wand for spells Wizzards have invented. If elves were around before or not in contact with wizzards they would have their own brand of magic

I think magic populates every magical being, Humans, Creatures and Ex-Beings. So, elves, being magical creatures, can perform some charms and othe things (remeber, the disappear if they want, not using a wand).

I think wizards can also perform magic without the wand (even if it is something like imperius curse). The function of the wand is to make the wizard easier to focus the object he (or she) pretends to enchant.

I think that, when Hogwarts were made, they had so little respect for elves that they didn't even try to block elf magic. Therefore, elves can apparate and disaparate from and within Hogwarts.

I think we learned a very important lesson in book 5 about elves. So far, the elves we've come across are of the Dobby mindset: inherantly (sp?) good. Even Winky, who did some not-so-smart things, was justified, and was most likely a "good elf". But Kreacher showed us that elves, unlike dementors or giants, are likely to be good or bad, just like humans. I just meant by saying what I did that to clump them (elves) along with the good guys versus voldy and the bad guys is wrong. that's like saying, "humans vs. voldy" because voldy's got humans in his camp.

*speaks very slowly* I agree that some elves will be on the good side, and that some elves will be on the bad side. That was the purpose of my last post.

That's also what I think... Nevertheless, they tend to be influenced by his/her masters' personality (kreacher is, but dobby isn't...)
