What secret weapon does Harry have?

Postby darkcloak » Thursday 12 February 2004 4:30:22pm

Taken from the Prophesy:

"the only one with the power to vanquish the dark lord will be born as the seventh month dies"

Now the prophesy tells us of Harry's secret power, but doesn't actually describe what it is. So what power does Harry have that no-one else possesses? Many people believe that Love will be Voldermort's undoing, but there's a whole lot of love in Hogwarts ( :D ), so I don't think that it can be that on it's own.

Some people believe that it will be the fact that Harry's blood resides within Voldermort which will allow him to be destroyed by Harry? But how?

Some suggest that it will be the life debt of Wormtail that will help Harry defeat Voldie (doesn't sound so scary when you call him that does he ;)

Others think that it is Voldermort's own 'Mark' on Harry that could give him the power to destroy him (the transference of the traits of Slytherin's heir when he tried to kill him as a babe).

And there's the fact that Harry could well be the heir of Griffindor and this gives him the power to destroy him. For example, there could be a 'Chamber of Secrets' type lair for the Griffindor's heir too, jam-packed with Dark Wizard destroying devices (try saying that ten times quickly :P !).

Or maybe it's the power of his friends love for him (R&H especially) which will see him through.

Phew! I'm going for a lie down. What do you think is Harry's secret power?

Hmmmm... the prophesy doesn't say that Harry has a power no one else does... it just says he has a power Voldywart doesn't have... and it tells who will kill our man Voldy.

I am one of those who think that love is the power Harry has that Voldy doesn't have... even though I roll my eyes everytime I think that something so trite would overcome the great evil... Sounds a little too faerie-tale-ish... but that's still what I think it is.
I don't think there's a Chamber for Gryffendor's heir... Seems to me that would have been mentioned or at least hinted at in CoS.
Something that has always struck me as odd is in the Sorting Hat's song in OotP, it mentions that Gryffendor and Slytherin were good friends before the great split up. That doesn't really belong in this thread, but I kinda ramble all over and come back to where I started from.

So... love. Love is a many splendored thing. Love lifts us up where we belong. All you need is love... yada, yada, yada...

Actually, the quote is "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord aproaches... Born as the seventh month dies."

I do not think Love will defeat Voldemort, but it might help. You remeber DD saying there are things worse than death? I think that this "thing" is evil to the evil ones, and good to the good ones. And it is related to the mysterious force in the locked room of the Mysteries Departement.

yup... they're hoarding it all for themselves and they're going to woo all the good children to their deaths like the Pied Piper did in the Pied Piper of Hamlin....

This is a particular fact that have not been away of my thoughts. I believe the Sorting hat has said that increasing a little the "friendship" between the two pals, because he wanted to show that it was needed to be friendly. Nevertheless, I think that, in the begginig, they ought to be friends, because you could never edificate an entire school with someone you hate!

I always thought that Slytherin, Griffindor were pals (or at least had some thing in common) when they started the school... but then thay had differences over how to select the students...

yeah, that just struck me as odd, since it seems to me that Gryffendor and Slytherin have a stronger dislike between themselves than Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff have for anyone now (okay, sorry, that made sense in my head, but not after i tried to type it out)...

Yeah, I noticed that also. Seems like gryffindor and slytherin really dont like each other but bothe gryffindor and slytherin like the other two houses somewaht and the other houses feel the same way about gryffindor and slytherin.

there there athena... calm down...

That line in the profesy can actually mean two things:

A:Harry has a power nobody else has, and its that power that will help him baet voldie.

B:Harry has enough power to beat voldie, its just that he is more powerfull than most wizards...

C: Harry has a power that's fairly common, and not more of this power, he just happens to be the one who will use it to overcome voldypants.

Just a random thought:

Perhaps Mrs Weasley/Dumbledore will die to protect Harry, giving him protection from Avada Kedavra again?
