Here's a fun little thought to bounce around your head... have we seen other people related to the magical world without realizing it... I am thinking of two examples in particular:

When, in Philosopher's/Sorcerers Stone, first chapter, Vernon and Petunia are watching the news, the news broadcaster "allows himself a smile" right after he relates the news story about the owls being seen out in force in daylight... does he know what's going on?

Also in Philosophers/Sorcerers Stone, Harry has Hogwarts letters arriving in the oddest places, included being delivered by a very confused milkman by way of a bunch of eggs... In Chamber of Secrets, Colin Creevey tells us his dad is a milkman... could he be being used by the wizarding world to help deliver letters to Harry? I don't think, as I do with Lily, that Colin's parents are magical or squibs, but he obviously knows a bit about the wizarding world before going to Hogwarts (from day one he idolizes Harry, and he's excited about the moving portraits he's heard about)... This, I think, is a bit more unlikely than the newscaster, but still an interesting theory...

Any other well-placed characters we've seen and overlooked? Got any other ideas? Feel free to post them, and to offer your "yea or neighs" on the two I've listed.

well, most people would smile in face of such news...

my intelligent answer to both of those comments: dunno

like I said, this is completely unfounded musings rather than actual theories...

Wow, i dont know, those are pretty obscure people. Personally, i dont really think so. If the news anchor was magical, then what in the world is he doing in a muggle job? :???: I wouldnt want to surround myself with muggles even if i was a squib, because you would still know about the magical world. I dont think the milkman was connected in any way either. The milkman delivers the the "eggs" BEFORE Colin goes to Hogwarts, which means that he doesn't know hes a wizard yet. He mentions that his dad was very surprised, so he wouldnt have known anything about magic would he?

Colin doesn't live near Harry. In Harry's trial it clearly states that no other wizards live in Little Whinging.

yeah, yeah, yeah, I know... just saying, it's fun to think of the possibilities... AND I'm not sure I believe what Fudge says about no other wizards living around Harry, because I believe Mark Evans is going to be at Hogwarts come Book 6.

besides, I don't really know anything about Little Whinging (sp?), but is it possible it's a suburb? I mean, I grew up in a little bitty town, and the pizza delivery, the guy who drove the CocaCola truck to stock the gas station, everyone came from the next town over. We don't really know how far a radius that "no other wizards" thing is, do we? Mr. Milkman Creevey might have come over from Big Whinging.

Big Whinging?

Well, Little Whinging is a quite suburban place where you would expect to find supermarkets, shops etc, but not really find high street stores like House of Fraser/Harvey Nichols or even McDonalds. Probably doesn't have a cinema or anything on that grand a scale. Just houses, all looking very similar, with a few shops dotted about and perhaps one retail park for food/DIY supplies etc.

btw, I totally agree with you about Mark Evans. Now that I have noticed him upon reading it for the 5th time his introduction is very much in keeping with other characters eg Sirius, Luan - just a brief one line mention an sudden appearance 1 or 2 books later.

well, doesn't it stand to reason that if there's a "Little Whinging" there's a "Big Whinging"?

Lol...

I think the weather man is a real muggle, absolutely not aware of magical being in the world... He just smile because it was a strange event.
And I don't believe Mr Creevey is a wizard or a squib... There are milkmen all everywhere (in England, at least) and I think it's said that he delivers the milk with a surprised face...

As far as the newscaster goes, I don't really think he is part of the wizarding world, just think it's funny, if you read it with the idea that he could, that little smile could be "if they only knew!" kinda thing...

As far as Colin's dad goes, no I don't think he's a wizard or a squib, the theory I was talking about would have him being a Muggle who knows about the magical community and is kind of a "messenger" kinda thing... don't think he is either, just fun to muse...

I got both of these ideas from the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter... just thought they were funny

I can't find a Big Whinging in Surrey I'm afraid. When I google it I get a lot of things about people whinging (ie moaning) about something that has happened to them.

oh you are so literal! I just meant, Little Whinging is a small town. As a joke (no I really don't think there's a Big Whinging), I called the larger city near it "Big Whinging"... that's all.
