Secret Slytherin Society

Postby Aberforth » Monday 26 April 2004 11:42:07am

Click on the link below to see what I mean. Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle are all wearing rings on their right hands. I know that they hint things in the movies earlier than in the books (Ron & Hermione for example), so is this a hint at some future association we have yet to see? I don't think it is a Death Eater's Sons Group, but it does have possibilities. Although the wizarding world may view jewellery differently to ours, but for boys of their age to wear rings in school is not that common (we weren't allowed at my school). Any thoughts?

Slytherin's Rings

Postby Reverie Revenge » Monday 26 April 2004 2:48:06pm

You noticed a fine detail but it is nowhere in the books. Directors like to add some their fantasy (in the 2nd movie I liked Ron's rat transfiguring into a watergoblet, it was funny  )

I have once read a book (it sucks  , but anyway) just about a circle of immoral men, a secret society, all of them wearing significant rings. Don't you think it's a little too transparent for JKR? :???: Because it's not really a fresh idea. But your observations skills rock anyway 8)

As for a clique of Slytherins: I think a Death-Eater-Juniors Society will form; Dumbledore's Army has to have an ''archenemy''. But I don't think they would use rings as a mean of communication. They can learn sth. better from their daddies, after all! :P

You know what is kind of funny:
I have been writing a FF for almost a year now and I have featured a ring on Crabbe in that story long before there was anything about the movie out on the net.
I thought that was kind of a cool coincidence.
As for the sons and daughters of DE's forming a group, I agree that that is a real danger and could be resolved with the theory that Athena and is it you Abe or Ferrus who believe that DD will break up this grouping and switch them around to other houses than Slytherin?

BTW Hollywood did steal a dream I had. Almost a year before the movie Tremors came out I had a very vivid dream about these creatures and the way we tried to get away from them was to climb up on top of the houses and up phone poles.
I am not lying I really did dream this (mind you that was a long time ago when I still dreamed)

thinking about the society. it would mirror the DA. so it could end up

DA vs SS (slytherin society) and
Order vs DE's

that'll be interesting!

Yeah and writing a duel battle like that could be a lot of fun of course as well as reading it.
That would be really interesting to try and accomplish
Hmmmm

Wow, well spotted. Why would they put it in the film for no reason though? Hmmmmm, I like the idea of a Slytherin equivalent to the DA. Who knows... :D

A very interesting idea that one, and it kind of makes sense too, specially if the final battle takes place in Hogwarts itself (although I think that Voldemort is too cunning to try and beat Dumbledore on his own ground).

Ah, good observation! To be honest, I noticed the rings too, but I just thought that since the uniforms are different that the rings were just part of uniform. Sort of like a class ring for high school or college. But I didn't really bother to see if Harry and the gang have them on. I'm assuming they don't.

well, alice and nobby summed up my belief nicely. There is a little band of bad little Slytherins, and when Dumbledore and everyone finds out about it, Slytherin (or the little band) has to be busted up and reassigned to different houses. My theory is that Malfoy will be reassigned to Gryffindor, making everyone's lives miserable, and since he would have had more experience on the Quidditch field than anyone else (Harry won't be on the Quidditch team anymore, Rowling's spent the last two books taking Quidditch out of his life), Malfoy will become the new Gryffindore quidditch captain.

With Slytherin loyalties so high, I could more easily picture them leaving the school, as Salazaar himself did, and instead going to Durmstrang maybe. I can't imagine Lucius allowing his son to be a Gryffindor.

I'm sorry if Malfoy did get placed in Gryffindor, the rest of the team would never vote him CAPTAIN they all hate him too much.

Well, Lucius will be indisposed for the next book, or until he breaks out of Azkaban so I don't think he'll have much to do with Draco. And if he does have a say so in it, I think Lucius will want spies inside Hogwarts even as students.
