keeping friends !

Postby Ju-DedoH » Sunday 21 September 2003 10:07:10pm

So, first explanation :
I was born in England and lived there to the age of 8, and then moved to France and I have lost all but two of the friends I used to have in England :-( ...
Now I am about to go to study in London and I am really excited about it ! but again, I am leaving friends behind, the sort that I have been seeing every other day for years ! I am really going to miss them and I am also really scared that "history repeats".
Knowing them, I am quite sure that they wont forget me or anything. So what I am scared of, is that they change habits, jokes and all the things we had in common, meaning that we might take different paths and not have so much to tell each other when we get back together.
with internet, we will stay in contact of course but I am still scared :-? .

please just give me your thoughts :???:

I'm not scared of being in a new place, I'm sure I'll make some friends
I'm more anxious about leaving where I live and the people who live there too (who are really important to me)

I'm pretty sure that if you continue to talk, in Internet, with real mail... Keep communication all the time and you won't be apart.
Try to send some card (snoopy is really cool to put in a card). When you meet again, you will have, with most certain, have some of tha habits and uses you used to share.

Personally, I've met someone in Costa Rica, and we keep contact. I'm sure that, in the future, when we meet again, we'll be such as good friends as we always were...

Hmmm, you can use instant messenging which they have these conference meeting sort of stuff (you might can even talk to ur frens thru the net, provided u have a mic)
or you can also get webcam and allow ur friends to view you...(I think you have to use yahoo instant messenger)
I'm sure you will get used to it...just remember communication is impt

I understand what you mean, I also had to move to another country two years ago and it is sad to lose contact with people you know, but I agree with the previous posts - now, when the Internet and messengers and webcams are so spread it won't be a problem to continue talking to your friends and know all their news, etc. A friend of mine even says that she is actually more in touch with me than with her other friends in the same city.

I'm leaving for university this sunday, and while it's not to a different country most of my friends have gone to uni, and we're scattered all over the country. I know that we can stay in touch through email and on the phone etc, but i guess that it just isn't the same. We will all be back at christmas, easter and in the summer, but its a huge change from seeing them everyday!
But, (like i'm sure that i wont) i dont think you'll lose your friends, you can always arrange visits and like choki suggested you can get a webcam!
