in this particular case, there aren't any facts to consider... purely speculation... I read what I did into what Hagrid said based on my own experiences. Someone who has inherited a fortune could just as easily read into it that James and Lily didn't squander all their inheritence... or nothing could be read into it at all. :-)

but if they were aurors wouldn´t rowling have mentioned it in the 5 th book when harry wants to become an auror too??

Obviously James n Lily must of had goods jobs because they were head boy and girl! Maybe ministry jobs?

lol you're trying to figure out the whys and wherefores of J.K. Rowling... I don't necessarily think that she would have mentioned it then. But I do think that they weren't aurors. The more I think about it, I think they were (or at least one of them was) an Unspeakable from the Department of Mysteries.

Firstly, ir seems that I really agree with the Unspeakable theory. But...

Before this last book came out, I was expecting to learn a little more about the Potters (it was a major rumour that there was going to be something about them). I also thought Lilly was not as good as we were forced to believe. So... I read the last post before mine:

Lily being a spy like Snape seems a much better one as it couldnt just have been kindness that voldemort didnt want to kill Lily,
