The Marauder's Map

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

hmm.. excellent question tiggirl.

i suppose that sometime or the other they should have noticed Peter but they would have opened the map only when they were upto some mischief and not in the company of people and wouldnt be too keen to look around the map with that scrutiny on those occasions

all of u (last 3 ) have a point

being a squib does not mean u dont have a wand does ii woul have chucked it out after a few yrs. but what if he tried to write on it? would it not right back like when snape said somting to it.

Groo dont u think that the first time they got it they would have examined it completely i mean they woud need to find out how it worked and that would not come after looking at it for a few seconds

I don't think it took Fred and George very long to figure it out.
They are dead cleaver and they are michevious. They found it in a drawer marked highly dangerous or something like that and the map does seem to be somewhat sentient.
Fred and George being who they are were the perfect people to come across it. I am willing to bet that the map helped them along in their discovery of it's workings.

PS: Pardon my spelling errors in this post.

the first time they got it was in their first year when Ron wasnt in Hogwarts. i dont know if Percy took Scabbers to Hogwarts, i guess he might have. the twins would have been more keen to look at him so i guess you are right that they would have come across peter's name.

But dont forget that there are 800 students plus teachers and ghosts in Hogwarts. they cant look at them all in the map, they would be more keen to look at the secret passages. as it has been mentioned before, they wouldnt look at the name Peter Pettigrew with much significance they would think he is just one random student.

I think they knew peter because arthur must have said something about him at home, don´t you think??
Or maybe they only heard about him when sirius escaped...

Just a random thought. . . did the ministry make a big deal about Sirius killing Pettigrew? I mean if it was publicized as a mass murder then what difference would Pettigrew have really made except to the inner circle who thought that Pettigrew was trying to avenge the Potters. If the details like Pettigrew were really only known and significant to a few ministry and Order members then the twins very well may not have heard or remembered Peter Pettigrew was killed by Sirius Black.
Just a random thought

Yeah, but i think ron knew about peter, didn´t he say: The only thing they found is his finger...or something like that. so the twins would have known it too...

Ron is not the one who said that the largest piece they found was his finger.
The trio all heard the story of Peter Pettigrew at the same time while they were hiding behind the christmas tree at the 3 broomsticks, when Fudge and McGonnagall were telling Madam Rosmerta about it.
It was Fudge that said the larges piece of him that they found was his thumb and that they sent that to his mother.

I couldn´t remember that...so it would be posible that fred and georeg hadn´t noticed him because they didn´t know him...

What else? I mean, hello, they're Fred & George  - sorry, Gred and Forge

And I also agree there's a crowd on the map - they only cared to avoid Snape, Mcgonagal, ... and Percy the Prat :evil grin:

As I said before I would not be suprised if the map helped them. It seems to have some intellegence owing to the fact that it knew how to insult Snape when he tried to discover what it was.

Perhaps when Fred and George touched the map, it sensed mischief in their veins and presto...wordings appeared
Messers Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs
Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief-Makers
and proud to present
The Marauder's Map

P.S: Magic word - I solemnly swear that I am up to no good
