Profession of Lily and James

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

How can she keep secrets like that? even from her family! shows what a strong mind shes got!

Overall i think its a good thing. Id rather read the book and find out for myself rather than hear from somebody else! That would p**s me off!

I FOund it!!!!!!

okay in OoP chapter nine (woes of mrs weasley) pg 157-159 harry is talking to moody and moody shows harry the origional order. There were about 20 people in all i think including Moody, sirius, the longbottoms and what shocked me the most, harrys parents. I didn't know that harrys parents were in the order, but because the were we have a pretty good idea what the must have done:
1.) Aurors like the Longbottoms
2.) someone who is involved with defence against the dark arts
3.) Someone who is fighting against the death eaters but not nessecarily
an auror, like Lupin.

We know they were in the order but that doesn't nessecary guarantee a certain profession! e.g. mundungus is involved in the order and hes a thief!

It's just my opinion, of course, but I think it would REALLY be stupid to have all of the Order working in the same place. I feel like one of the two parents worked in the Department of Mysteries, but I admit, I have no evidence of that.

Where the folks of the Order are known to be employed:

Hogwarts (Dumbledore, Hagrid, McGonagall, Snape, possibly Flitwick)
Ministry of Magic (Arthur, Kingsley, Tonks)
Unemployed (Moody, Lupin, Sirius, Molly)
Gringotts (Bill, possibly Fleur)
Abroad (Charlie, Madam Maxime)
Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes (Gred and Forge; okay, I know they aren't official, but I think they soon will be)

Also, something that's interested me... Lily might not have had a profession at all, depending on when Harry was born and what they did for childcare. It's quite possible, I believe, that James and Lily married right out of Hogwarts and had Harry soon after, judging by the approximate ages of Lupin, Sirius, and Snape. If Lily was a stay-at-home mother like Molly, then she wouldn't have had an actual profession.

I don't think so, remember when Harry is starting to panic because "no one from the Order was left at Hogwarts?" If he'd seen Flitwick leave a meeting from the Order, he would have gone to Flitwick, but instead he remembers just in the nick of time that Snape is in the Order.

Whether we have proof of it or not, I really do feel like Flitwick is in the Order, though. I could be wrong, but he just seems like a powerful good little man who is loyal to Dumbledore (or at least anti-Umbridge).

Getting a little off the topic, are we?? LOL
I think Flitwick is not in the Order... I mean... is every person who is anti-Umbridge related in the Order? We see McGonagall talk with Professour Sprout in book 5, and they sure were talking about Umbridge or the ministry or Voldemort... but is Sprout in the Order? I don't think so. And I think she is also very loyal to DD...

Okay: getting on topic - I agree with the 'Lilly unemployed' thing! As far as I know, they were very young when Harry was born, and they sure had lots of money. Lilly could have decided she would be needed in home, taking care of little Harry! Besides, if they knew about the prophecy, Lilly would want to be at home to hurt some DE that could attack Harry (she would not think Voldemort would come himself, right?)

I still think Flitwick could be in the Order, but naturally, I have no proof. *stamp my foot* HE IS HE IS HE IS!!!!

That's EXACTLY what I say (about Lily). If I knew that a prophesy like that had been made about one of my boys, I'd have them in my sights at all times. No one, not even my parents, would babysit, because when it all comes down to it, I would want to be there if anything happened to them, and I'd want to be there to stop something happening to them...

(btw, if one person feels like saying that Lily is obviously a talented witch, so she would work outside the home, stuff the thought back inside your brain because I am a stay at home mom and have many talents that are going unused right now. It's offensive.... so many people say stuff like that, but it is offensive)

Oh, yeah? Is Percy  a strong wizard??? :evil grin: I don't think so.
But I think Lily was strong - she gave her life to save Harry!
Me too, I tihnk Lily wasn't employed but took care of Harry. harrylover made it more than clear why

And James? JKR said in na interview that James inherited his money (but didn't tell who left him all the money, maybe sb. else, not James' parents! Sirius inherited his money from an uncle!) She said: ''James didn't need a well-paid profession'' --> that was all, she didn't even say whether he was employed or not. I think he had a job but not a 9-5 job, more like liberal profession - that he made some money with his hobby :-? Maybe a quidditch referee?
I don't think he was working at the ministry - it'd be such a cliche, half of the Order at the DoM :x

I absolutely think Percy is a strong wizard.

Percy is the personification of all the "good" people who have put their faith in bad people, who have let power cloud their judgement.

When I look deep within myself, I don't know that I wouldn't have done exactly what Percy did. He believed in something so strongly that he went against his family. Even if what he believed in was strong, it takes strength to stand up for your convictions that way.

He's not a likeable character, so therefore, we try to take what he's done (or not done) and make him out to be a bad person, but the thing is, he really represents the vast majority of people. Everyone would like to think they'd be active members of the Order, if they were in that situation, but the truth is, history has shown us that people go along with what they're told by people in charge, just as Percy did in Order of the Phoenix.
