The "I Told You So" Topic

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

Neville, of course, becomes a Herbology professor at Hogwarts (heard of any married Hogwarts professors?)

According to a follow-up interview, Rowling said that Luna becomes a celebrated naturalist and eventually marries Newt Scamander's grandson.

Apparently, the character of Luna was supposed to be a very supportive friend, and nothing more.

The un-married professors are one subject bothering me about the books.
:(
Luna and Neville did spend some time together: They entered the train together, they showed up for the Ministry adventure etc. I would have liked to seen them stick together.
:)

Ehhh...

I liked having the characters that were ONLY friends, without having to couple up every character.

I think the characters of Luna and Neville served some very useful purposes, and alone as characters they had a LOT of growth (c'mon, who would have imagined little bumbling, toad-toting Neville would end up facing up against Death Eaters not once but three times? And who would have thought other students would look to him as a leader???)

Having all the characters "hook up" would just be too much of an icky-sticky ending...

Maybe you are right again...might have been a little too much icing on the cake!

I for one am really glad Snape was on the right side. I really hoped he would.

As for Neville and Luna, when did they actually seem made for each other. I mean Luna was probably in for someone more like her father. Who was ready to believe in all that strange stuff that she had. I for one never saw Neville trying to chase an imaginary best on a holiday in some country.

Maybe it didn't work. I like the idea, that they spent some time together before they split up.

Hopelessly Romantic

I don't know, I'm a hopelessly romantic person myself, yet I never managed to see that coming. Yes, indeed they were both some kind of outcasts in school but that doesn't mean that they had to end up together. I kinda like Luna and honestly I never saw her ending up with Neville. And as a matter of fact I never thought Neville would become a teacher. I thought he'll get someone very pretty and witty. Though I pictured Harry in Dumbledore's office quite a number of times.

Neville shaped up considerably between books 5 and 7. He was always good when it came to plants, but he gained some confidence later during the books. Becoming a teacher was a surprise, but also a confirmation that the characters continued development after school. He just had a slow start. Maybe he would had done fine, too, if LV had singled him out in the very beginning.

Romance: Maybe I was mislead by the movies. Remember the scene in the ministry? Neville taking Luna by the hand, dragging her out of the way? and there was more like this.

Harry a teacher? He did fine giving DADA lessons, but the time for that is fortunately over. I think he is sincerely enjoying the family life he never had.

Well, I thought they could break the rule. Why is it that only unmarried persons can become teachers at Hogwarts. I didn't take that into consideration.

As for taking someone by the hand out of danger, that doesn't necessarily mean they are going to end up together. I just don't see Neville and Luna together. That's it.

If I'm not mistaken, Rowling has actually said that some of the teachers are married and have lives outside of Hogwarts, it's just not ever in something Harry saw (which is sad, to me).

In my opinion, the ONLY things that most people base their Neville/Luna shipping on are the facts that they're both outcasts, and they're both part of the six who went to the Ministry of Magic the night Sirius died, and the other four hooked up.

They're friends, and a lot of people can't deal with the idea of two people of opposite genders being friends, and nothing more, and they try to hook up everyone, otherwise it's not a happy ending.

In Prisoner of Azkaban, and several other moments through the movies, Harry takes Hermione by the hand to run. In fact, in the seventh book, that's how they get from place to place.

I'm assuming you're a girl (it's been a long time, and I can't remember, sorry). If you were in a dangerous situation, where it were important not only to exit quickly but to stay together, do you have no male friends (and nothing more) who would grab you by the hand at that point?

In the movie OotP, Neville grabs her hand (and she does the same later) mostly in those situations. Actually, she grabs his hand and leads him when he stuns himself by casting magic, but either way, they were in a "get out fast and stick together!" situation there.

Sorry for the double post.

If any of my male friends wouldn't do that, they're not my friends anymore!
But seriously, I sort of thought that they might hook-up just because neither one had that many real friends and were both made fun of quite a bit. If this were true, than I can think of quite a few people at my school who would be together even if they don't like each-other. But, anyways:
I told you a Hogwarts Proffessor would die.
I told you that wands would play an important part in this book.
I told you Lilly, Severus, and, The Marauder's would also play an important part in this book.
