I think there was a post here about it, before we could put book 5 stuff here. SO, here it goes again!

In the end of the Xmas Holidays, Sirius gives Harry a mirror: Harry could have used it to see if Sirius was at Grimmauld Place, but instead, he used Umbridge fireplace...

What would have happaned if Harry had used the mirror?

Sirius might have been caught rushing to the rescue if Harry had used it prior to the evening they went to the MoM. Sirius may have been caught again either by the MoM or by LV. If LV caught him, then he could have tortured him like her suggested to Harry in the first place. Therefore, when Harry et al arrived at the DoM they would have found Sirius.

I thought the same thing while reading OotP(between tears cause Sirius is dead!)"You stupid boy,why haven't you used the mirror,look now Sirius is dead"Sirius's death was really upseting for me!!

If Sirius haven't carried the mirror on his body all the time...(teach me how do you carry that everywhere you go), Harry wouldn't reach him either.
Kreacher might stole that mirror and used it.

Well, Sirius didn't really get out much, so I suppose it wouldn't have been impossible to carry it. And it is a small one, too, isn't it?

I carry my mobilephone(selfphone)everywhere!Can't live without it.And for Sirius Harry is very important=>mirror is important too!Like in real life,just Sirius would be you,Harry-boy/girlfriend,and mirror mobilephone

i also wondered why harry hadnt been smart enough to use the mirror. if he had used it......I think the result would have been the same. harry would have had another dream and then done the same thing. I think voldemort would have smart enough to get him to go to the dept. of mysteries!

I never thought about it that way!You're probably right but still,Sirius wouldn't die if it all happened differently,cause LV wasn't after Sirius,he was after Harry!

not sure what would have happened in the future but i am sure that Sirius wouldnt have died at the Ministry that night since Harry wouldnt have gone there

forgive me for my poor memory, but does harry still have the mirror, or did he destory it. because, if he does still have it, that brings up a very intriguing idea, could he then stilll use it to contact sirius, even though he is "dead?" any thoughts?

Yeah harry finds the mirror after his death and when he looks into it nobody is there.

Harry had the mirror but did not know it. He had forgotten all about the package that Sirius had given him at Christmas time.
The reason Harry didn't want to even open it was because he did not want Sirius to leave Grimmauld Pl. and put himself at risk again. Harry didn't find the package until after Siriuse's death. When he opened it and read the note he tried to talk to Sirius but to no avail.
Then he threw the mirror into his trunk where it smashed.

I believe that the mirror is still in the bottom of his trunk. I also believe that it could be repared and used with the one Sirius had "If" the one Sirius had is still at Grimmuld Place.
My guess is that Sirius had the mirror with him when he went to the Ministry. Remember that it was Snape who informed Sirius of Harry's departure. If I were Sirius I would have used the mirror to call Harry before actually leaving Grimmuld Pl. Harry would not have answered of course because the mirror was stil wrapped up in his trunk.
So because Harry didn't answer he would have taken off immediatly for the Ministry with as many members as he could call. Tonks, Moody, etc...
