Inside the Chamber of secrets

What would have happened if The Sorting Hat had insisted on sorting Harry into Slytherin? Or what if Harry had become friends with Draco Malfoy instead of Ron during their first journey on the Hogwarts Express? Wander into alternative Harry Potter universes here.

What if, while fighting Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets, Fawkes hadn't come with the sorting hat and harry was all alone? Would he have survived? Would he have saved Ginny? Did he really need the sorting hat and Gryffindor's sword at all? Would something else have come to Harry's aide? If so, what would it have been? :???:

LOL - just pm him Ju-De (Im not really sure what you are talking about either.)

Ok - I think he would NOT survive.

Why? Because he was not ready to handle such a fight by himself. In fact Im pretty sure he will need all the help he can get to leave to book 7

Every year he is learning new stuff that would makes him stronger and stronger.

I'm sorry, I was just missing the point ... Tomm Riddle is VD ! so he was fighting against VD. sorry, so maybe he would have died, what else could have happened ? but i get the feeling that fawkes was sent by DD somehow.

Erm, VD? Ack, to many HP acronyms to remember!

Anyway, I do agree that it would be quite miraculous if Harry were to escape without the help of Fawkes. I mean, it would have been a near-impossibility for him to battle the snake without once opening his eyes (so as to avoid being petrified.) Furthermore, were he, by some random act of good will, to survive, there's still the question of getting out of the chamber. Oh, and without the sword, dear Harry was weaponless. I can't really see a way out of this one for him without any help!

Personally, I don't think Harry could have survived with out the sorting hat and fawkes...however, I have think that no matter what Harry would have those things to help him...again a book five reference would be handy. But still, Harry would not be Harry with out his fierce belief in DD, and that's what brought Fawkes and co to his aid. No Harry could not have survived with out the tools, but it was Harry's character and stealth that brought the tools to him, so in essence it really was Harry to fought off Tom Riddle (aka Lord Voldy)

very well rounded arguement
i agree with that, the essance that makes harry harry is partially his loyalty and that is what brought him the stuff!
