What if Winky had snitched on her masters, the Crouches?

If this had happened, I wonder if a lot of angst and horror would have been prevented...

Winky knew about Barty Crouch, Jr.'s existence outside of Azkaban...could Barty Crouch, Sr. have been spared? Would Cedric have lived? Would Voldemort not have come to power because Harry wouldn't have been lured to him? Would the real Mad-Eye Moody NOT have spent the year in the trunk? Would Harry not have been selected for the Tri-Wizard Tournament, thus sparing him a falling-out with Ron? But what would have become of Winky, had she told? We've already seen how much a mess she is being free and no longer having her masters...

Lots of questions to ponder...I think I'm getting better at these 'what if' threads...I hope my earlier ones left people with things to discuss! I'll be interested to see what you have to say about Winky and about what might have and not have happened had she spoken up far earlier! Thanks for being patient with me...I am new to this section--great job, zledm007!

No problem in beeing new to this section, everyone is (since it is a new section ...). anyways, I'll have to reread the book before giving my opinion, so ... back to reading

If Winky had given away her masters much earlier on, Barty Crouch, Jr. wouldn't have been able to masquerade as Mad-Eye Moody...the REAL Mad-Eye could have taught DADA, no Malfoy the bouncing ferret , Harry wouldn't have been in the Tri-Wizard Tournament (depending on the timing, he may have been forced to stay in, had he already been selected by the Goblet), he wouldn't have had phony Mad-Eye's help, but then again, Harry wouldn't have to worry about touching the trophy and being transported.

Cedric wouldn't have died. Of course, someone else, loyal to Voldemort, may have tried to help Voldemort come to power along with Wormtail/Pettigrew. However, if Crouch were exposed earlier on, do you think the Ministry would have been more willing to believe what Crouch was saying? What are your thoughts? There are a lot of possibilities!

Your welcome. Anyway, back onto the subject, she might have been killed if she had done so. Probably her next owner might want to kill her or something because there is a sort of unbreakable bond between an elf and her/his master. So, the elf wouldn't be able to rat. That would probably arise suspicion that Winky was not an elf.
