I have almost all the original writings of my poetry. I have typed and written many messages to people for birthdays, get well, christmas and other special occassions but did not keep them. So my poetry is out there still. I also have written rhymes for activites for children. I love to write and rhyme. I would like very much to put my poetry to music one day. My favourite artist is Sarah Mclaughlin, a Canadian singer. Google her, she is magnificent. I met her in 2004 after going to her concert. She is even more beautiful in person. I aspire to be like her, to be musical and lyrical and lovely. I am a big fan of lyrics generally; I wish I could ask every song writer what they meant about their lyrics, but sometimes it's fun to interpret them yourself. At first, I sought to gain a Creative Writing degree because I like to write. But there's no IMMEDIATE money in that. So, after years of chasing after several different ideas, I finally realised where I was supposed to be. In 5 months, I will be a teacher (if I can quit getting so distracted... ahem... with stuff like this! lol) and I will be in a profession where i can inspire others to achieve their dreams, to never give up, to see that education, and especially literacy holds the key to so many places in one's life.
And so I begin this thread with one of my first and favourite poems. I started writing a whole bunch when I was on Summer Holidays in Candle Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada. I was 9 years old. Enjoy!
THE DANCING GIRL
At midnight
Like tiny reflections across the lake
In the moonlight I see
A white shimmer of a girl
Dancing on the water.
Slowly the vision begins to appear
More clearly now
As she gracefully tiptoes acroos the water.
Then, with a graceful curstey
Spreading her dazzling white gown
She slowly disappears
Into the rays of the rising sun.
