Glasses

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Glasses

Postby techjohn » Tuesday 24 June 2003 7:27:08pm

I was just wondering, why does Harry where glasses?

At first, I thought it could have been something to do with LV and the scar, but Dumbledore wears them, and so did James.

They have all sorts of magical cures, and can regrow bones and numerous other cures, but why not cure eyesight?

Does anyone have any ideas to why this is? :???:

Um . . . maybe Harry wears glasses because he can't see properly without them?

Usually people wear glasses if they have eyesight problems . . .

Oh sorry, I didn't read the rest of your post!!

That's a good question. I think it might be an oversight on Rowling's part, but remember, for most of his life, Harry lived with muggles, so they wouldn't have been able to provide him with any sort of magical cure.

I don't know . . . that's just a guess

Why, then, do Dumbledore and James Potter both wear glasses when they're wizards? :???:

Maybe they just feel better with glasses... It is like a psycological protection, allowing to hide from the outside world. Or maybe they think they look better with glasses on? ;)

Think about it JKR...might have wanted glasses to go along with Harry's character.....she made the character to sound like the classic nerd ...got pushed around....what do you picture when you see a nerd? Glasses.....its a steryotype..... It adds to his character....and James....well he would be his fathers son if he didnt carry on the 'gene' of poor eyesight. So he had to wear glasses. Dumbledor.. think about it. When you think of an elderly 'guru' so to speak, someone wise. They usually have glasses. Its a look of distinguishness..... the magical cure......why the dont.......im not sure.....maybe its too risky to deal with thier eyesight. Just becouse they are wizards and have cures we dont does not mean every cure doent have risks. Magic can fail....just like medicine sometimes. Think about it.

Oh wow - Gryffindor Student is back!!! We haven't seen you for a while!!!!!!

Yes, I agree with the glasses being "part of a character". But I would think they would have some potions to repair eyesight.....or contacts....guess not.
