though he saw his parents die, harry was only a baby, i don't think that he remembers exactly what happened, and he didn't see his dad die, and i'm not quite sure about the details with his mom, and i can't explain quirell right now

He is only a baby when his parents died and maybe Harry didn't even looked at his mum when she got finished off (babies have short attention span :grin:

)

As for Quirell, well he sort of vanished into thin air, i mean it wouldn't be quite a death unlike Cedric where Harry saw him down.

yeah, it's not like harry used a curse to kill quirell, he didn't die naturaly, he just kind of vanished like choki said

I think I posted about this topic in Great Hall too.

Harry didn't see his parents died at all or he would have known that they were murdered instead of die in car accident according to the Dursely.
He saw all of it through the Dementor, he said so himself that he don't even remember how they died.

think of watching a news on TV and somebody had died, but it didn't affect you like it did when somebody died in front of you.

I had a pneumonia when I was a year old, stayd in hospital for a month, and can't remember a bit of it, so he could have seen his parents die and not remember it if he was a baby, so i think he saw them die

Jo (J.K. Rowling) has already explained this. For you to see the thestrals you have to assimilate death, Harry as a baby wasn't able to do so with the death of his parents, he had already faint by the time Quirrel died, and when Harry ended the fourth term he hadn't assimilated Cedric's death, it took all summer for that, and when he returned now he could see the thestrals.

About the Priori Incantatem, the spells were coming out in reverse order, so first Cedric came out, as he was most recently killed, then the old gardener, bertha jorkins, Lily Potter and then James Potter etc etc. Its not in the wrong order, James was killled before Lily, which is why Lily came out first, as the spells are coming out in REVERSE ORDER.

Eol: Hrmm, what happened, it seems, is in the first copies, James came out of the wand before Lily... this is wrong in reverse order, as he dies first, so woudl some out second...
JK has admitted that this was a misprint, which is why it was changed in later edditions... My copy, for example, has Lily coming out first, because it was printed after the mistake ws caught...

All good now?

But on with the Thestrals, I still think that Ginny saw them.... She heard voices from behind the veil, land the only others to do so has seen someone die... and here's the bit from Ootp thatmakes people think that she coudlnt'...

The roosters? Prob not, because she really couldnt' remember the stuff she ws doing, right! And with Harry, he had to understand etc etc allthat stuff befoer he saw them, and since his parents and Quirell didtn' count, I can hardly see the roosters counting for Ginny...>? :???:

While re-reading PoA, I came across the passage where Harry rides in the carriages for the first time, and he says that the moved by them selves, perhaps by invisible horses, so apparently JKR hinted about thestrals early on...

technically Harry didn't see death. I just finished re-reading GoF and Harry had his eyes closed when Cedric was hit with the spell. Unless "seeing death" means being present when someone dies. But then he'd had to have seen the Thestrals after Quirrel.
