Snape's deeds

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Yeah, but Harry didn't new about Dark magic before having friends, so it doesn't count.
And Barty was loved by his mom, but knew that his father didn't love him, so he had to get his attention by some way, and entering the dark magic could seemed to be one.

Snape knew what he was doing:

1 When Harry got sorted into Gryffindor, his scar began burning.Did you see Quirrel? He was turned around and he was shacking. That means Voldie was doing it.Snape was looking at Potter,b/c he was trying to stop Voldemort.

2 Harry's broomsitck was out of controll.Did you see Quirrel. He wasn't worried about Harry, that means he was doing it.Snape was trying to stop him thats why he didn't blink and he kept eye contact with Harry

3 He was trying to stop Quirrel from stealing the philosophers stone in the restricted area until Filch came.

¨Yeah Green that is all true; but we are discussing if Snape entered the dark side (when young) because he wanted, or because his friends did.

But keep on working on that theory, Neo, I really like it.

I cannot really say why, but something in me refuses to believe that "follower who finally started to think"-theory. I mean, you would maybe join the dark side for the mere fascination of it or because all your friends did. You might possibly believe the 'pure bloods are worthier' ideology, and you might agree to let them put the dark mark on you. But when it comes to actually kill and torture people, and if a rather young man manages to get access to the upper ranks, he's most definately done those things, the 'follower' kind of mentality simply isn't enough. I believe it can make people look away, or maybe watch from a distance, but not actively parttake in it.

Yeah, if you are just a follower you don't go that far.

And I mean Snape knoew a lot of curses before meeting people at Hogwarts (that means the gang of Slytherin), this means he really loves the dark arts.

Maybe he's using dark arts against dark arts. You know,"fight fire with fire".

Yeah, he might be doing that now, but I think it's very unlikely for an 11 year old child...

I dont' think that he was a blind follower, I think that he believed what he was doing was right, that it was the proper thing to do to torture and kill muggles and mudbloods, because they ovbiously deserved it. But, I do think that the only reason that he believed that these things were because taht is what he was taught by his famliy, and what he saw around him from his friends, and in that sense, he was a follower...

I do think that he loved the power he had as a DE, and it was a major thing that made him change his way of thinking, and realise that all taht he believed was lie...

If all you see, hear and are told when you are younge that killing and torturing muggles and mudbloods is a good thing to do, you're going to believe it true, aren't you?

Hrmm, just as a point, notice that we never hear Snape spitting out any of that mudblood stuff? I wonder why that is... I know that he really doesnt' like Hermoine and all, but I think that's just because a) she's not in his house, and b) she is kinda a know it all, and taht infuriates Snape... I mean, he doesnt' overly pick on for exaplme Justin whatevery-whatever, or any of the other 'mudbloods', does he???

But if snape went to Hogwarts surely he talked to DD, and he could have tell him that mudblood things and muggles aren't that important, so he had both sides, and choose one.

Holly, the thing you mentioned about Snape's attitude towards mudbloods is on thing I've noticed as well...and I think this is something that makes Snape kinda controversial. I don't know...he just doesn't seem like the typical DE to me, and I really believe there is more about the reason he joined than we can imagine now.

One question, however:
in book 2, the Slytherin password was pure blood. Who decides on the passwords for the houses?

Siana: I was really wondering about that password thing too, and thank-you Jessica for answering that! i wonder who the pic is that is out the front of the Slytherin common room??? (not that I think that it will have any relevance, or we would have been told when Harry and Ron went down there)

Neo: I would think that if somehting has been intergrated into your belief structure from a younge age, it woudl take more than just one person like DD telling you that it was wrong to change your mind! I think that the thing that made Snape change to the light was a big and very significant thing, which made him question alot of things about himself and his beliefs! (I just have no idea what though!!!)

Wait, Maybe Snape's parents were DE's, and the did something somewhat contreversial (or I don't know) and Voldie ordered them killed, and Snape started questioning because of that!!!

Okies, that's a bit wierd, but my idea was that maybe it had something to do with his parents, since we sorta might have eliminated that it was because of the Potters or just Lily Potter?

:-?

hehe, maybe the picture is Salazar hinself?

Holly, I really like that point about Snape's possible reason to turn sides. Just imagine...he'd have an important thing in common with Harry then...but on the other hand, we've had Voldie killing Harry's parents, DEs torturing Neville's parents...gets boring after a while
