Snape's deeds

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Or maybe she will answer it...could be that Harry finds a portrait of his parents? Or any other portrait that has something important to say...
But I hate unsatisfied curiosities as well.

I like the question of which portraits talk and which not.
Also it seems that portraits doesn't say much, as long as we know only Sir Cadogan has help them.

I really don't think so. Even though the portraits are able to talk and move and what not, I think it's the same as asking if a rock can think. I mean, the people in the wizard's pictures can't think, can they? I don't see much of a difference. But that brings up the question, well how do they talk and preform all these actions? And I really don't have an answer for that. Maybe they've just been enchanted to move. Maybe they're similar to a computer program that has multiple algorithms for movement, speech, and choice built into it. A picture is still a picture, even if it has been enchanted to speak.

Maybe, you can charm a portrait and thus transfere a part of your soul to it... make yourself kinda immortal

Again, way deep.

That's sort of what LV did to the diary, ne? Ooh, is a v. good topic of discussion. I wonder how he accomplished this? And furthermore, did the diary have a mind of it's own? And if the same thing was done to a portrait, would that have a mind of it's own, as well?

Meh. Many, many questions...

I think that they diary and the paintings aer very different... I honestly dont' think that JK figured out wether they paintings have sould or part of souls, or how much they can think, or stuff like that. I'd say that having moving and talking paintings just makes the place seem more magical! :D

Also, what happend when a person paints a painting of an imaginary person??? ie, who's to say that Sir Cadogen(sp) was a living and breathing person that soeone painted a portrait of... maybe they just though him up??

Well, portraits seem to think and fell; since Sir Cadogan knew how to het to the north tower and decided to help Harry, Ron, and Hermione (of course the painting could be made to help the students get there)

And Tom's diary seemed to have the mind Tom had when he was 15 (when he wrote it)

But when Flitwick did that, was it comprehension or just memorization? I mean, my garage door recognizes when I'm standing under it and doesn't close. I'm not sure if he was teaching the portraits to comprehend what they were doing, just having them memorize what he wanted them to be on alert for.

Ack, definitely didn't finish post. Was thinking to fast. More on my garage door. It recognzes that i'm standing there and doesn't close, but it doesn't comprehend why it's doing so. I think that the portraits operate in quite a similar way. they're 'programmed' to respond, think, and operate in a certain way based on certain stimuli.

Do you mean as to wether or not he explained about Sirius Black beign an escaped prisoner or not... I don't really see how it makes a different.. the fact that they can be taught to recognise someone and not allow then entry is kinda the point...

I mean, to continue with the garage door, it can recognise that a person is there, but not a specific person. ie, it can't decifer wether it is you or say your dog, and them, after the recgonition, react differently depending on who it is...

:-?
