Major Internet Attack

Postby Paul » Saturday 25 January 2003 4:58:19pm

It seems a major internet attack has been going on since early this morning (12.30 am EST). Like they say about difficult TV reception, <i>Please do not adjust your computers</i> :)

From the info I've been able to obtain, it appears that the problems are being caused by a worm-type attack which has been seeking out vulnerable servers to infect using a known flaw in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 software. The attacking software code has been scanning extremely aggressively, som much that it has overwhelmed many servers and Internet data pipelines. Apprently things are coming back online bit by bit now, but there still may be some problems for a while.

Oh... I wasn't online over the week-end. I just hope the things are coming back to normal now.

Looks like there were a few further serious problems across the net last night around 2.00 am GMT for a brief while, and but things seem to be the best I've seen them since Saturday at the moment according to internet monitoring sites. Appears that the web has survived this one. :)
