 wow this thread took off!

I saw Lost in Translation... we watched it and at the end just kinda looked at each other and said "Hmmm.. Okay." It was good, I really liked the non-relationship-relationship.

I don't do blood and guts and gore too well, but I REALLY want to see the Passion, so we're going to wait til it comes on DVD, that way I can pause it and take a breather if I need to.

We own a TON of movies so I'm gonna go through the highlights of our list:

Anna and the King: AWESOME movie! My husband does not like Jodie Foster, and he even loves this movie. Plus, it's kinda cool to see Tom Felton (Malfoy) in pre-Harry Potter days being a sweet kid.

Austin Powers:  it's great if you want to watch a movie and not use your brain too much

Back to the Future (the trilogy, especially 1 and 2): what can I say? It's a classic, it's got a great storyline, a great soundtrack

Dead Poets Society: one of my two favorite cry movies... I love it. I'm a literature buff anyway, and a former actress in high school theater, so that just makes it that much better.

Ferris Bueller: the epitome of 80's comedies. Everyone should see it at least once. Fun Fact: my oldest son is named after the friend, Cameron. that's my husband's doing

Labyrinth: I love the music (as you can tell, I'm an eighties kinda girl) and the movie is really beautiful.

MIB and Independance Day: I put the two together cuz I always watch them together... btw, Tommy Lee Jones is the BEST in MIB... I had no idea he could be so funny!

Office Space: another one of Todd's favorites, and I like it. It's especially funny after you grow up and have a "real job" that you can't stand, working in a cubicle having eight different bosses.

Shawshank Redemption: can't watch this one too often, but it's amazing. I love Morgan Freeman in almost everything he's in, and this movie made me like Tim Robbins

Steel Magnolias: my other favorite cry-movie. Guys, don't even bother watching it, you most assuredly won't get it. Girls get it. It's the ultimate chick flick. I especially like it, because it kinda represents the end of southern womanhood (and I'm southern) where women wore big hats to church and went to get their hair done weekly. A note: Olympia Dukakis is absolutely the coolest, because she pulls off the best southern accent of the bunch!

Miss Congeniality: another great movie as long as you don't want to use your brain too much. Sandra Bullock as another klutzy girl gone pretty.

While You Were Sleeping: my favorite Sandra Bullock movie. I love Bill Pullman (the President in Independance Day), and I used to suffer through Peter Gallagher until I got to like him on The O.C. Now he's cool. Other fun recognisable faces: the dad on Everybody Loves Raymond and the mom from Mary Poppins (the REALLY old lady)

Bruce Almighty: I thought I would have to pray for forgiveness for going to see this movie I figured would for sure be blaspheming when my husband wanted to see it and it was his night to pick the movie, but I really liked it. There's very little language, and while Jim Carrey's funny, he's not over-the-top, and there are some really sweet scenes.

Lilo and Stitch: our family's favorite recent Disney cartoon... Lilo's a really fun character, and the little random stuff Stitch is doing on the side is cute...

Moulin Rouge: this is another one of the very few movies my husband and I both like. When we first heard it was a "musical", I was, like, "yea!" and he was, like, "absolutely not"... BUT when we finally watched it, he loved it. It's got a really fun weird style, great singing (I couldn't believe it's actually Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor singing all that!) and great acting, and a really cool story. It's by the same director of the Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes, and it has that weird style.

Finding Nemo:  I love Dory! I relate so much to her! It's a fairly cliche storyline, but fun dialogue and beautiful graphics... definately deserved the honors it's received

I just saw Dudly Do-Right with Brendan Fraser
I have liked Brendan Fraser ever since I saw the Mummy but I have to say that this was about the dumbest movie I have seen in a really long time.
My three year old thought it was funny however.
Did anyone else like or hate this film?

I gotta say, I'm not a Brenden Fraser fan... I never got on the Mummy bandwagon, and after seeing Monkeybone (I am forever stupider for having actually sat through that movie... my husband swears that "it could have been awesome!") I pretty much never watch a Brenden Fraser film if I can help it. Basically, the only one I've ever really thought was funny at all was Encino Man, and I only liked it because I like Pauly Shore (even though, yeah, I'm significantly stupider from watching his movies, too ).

Ah i kinda liked the mummy. But then again, i did see it when I was in high school and studying egypt in ancient history class. But then, I really liked all quiet on the western front when we were studying the wars in modern history. so i guess it depends on whether the movie is relevant to some current interest in my life.

I've kind of been neglecting my movie-seeing habit lately. I'm not sure why... I saw 50 first dates on thursday night, which was really quite nice. Not too corny, and i have to thank my sister for telling me that the condition that Drew Barrymore's character Lucy has is real, and that there is actually one documented case that she knew of... It's really sweet, and I liked the fact that they didn't pretend Adam Sandler is a hunk. Cos he's so dorky. But he's funny so it's okay.

Athena I LOVE the Labyrinth  The film of my childhood. I must have seen it like 80 times

And as far as recommendations go, I recommend that people DON'T see The Cat in the Hat. Eeeeeuuurgh!!! Blegh! (Various other noises of disgust)

The movie Cat in the Hat was definately stupid because:

It was a lot too much like Austin Powers (I say that with out having seen any of the Austin Powers movies too)
There is sexual inuendo that does not belong in a Dr. Seuse story,
The acting is cheesey as is Mike Myers (Hate Him).
They change the story (unlike with the Grinch which was very well done) The boyfriend of the mother was just riduculous.
The whole thing was a complete waste of time.

some movies i reccomend:

Sixteen Candles: a great John Hughes 80's movie, one of my favorites, starring molly ringwald.

The Breakfast Club: another great John Hughes 80's movie starring Molly Ringwald! (hehe) and the blonde kid who's always the geek (he was in sixteen candles too, however i forget his name...) it's really good.

Pretty in Pink: another great John Hughes 80's movie starring Molly Ringwald!!!! i think she's only been in like three movies and i think i've listed them all! (she's good at playing 'teen in angst' but i've never seen her do anything else, so perhaps thats a good thing?)

all the john hughes movies are about high school kids and all the cliques and stuff that goes on, especially the breakfast club and pretty in pink.

LOTR: you've heard it again and again, i'm sure, so i'm not going to talk about these movie's, just tell you that i reccomend them! hehe i read a funny cartoon the other day (a Luann, if anyone else reads that one) and she's watching a Lotr movie. her dad says, "shouldn't you be doing homework?" and she says, "i am, we have to watch the movie." he dad says, "back in my day, we would read the book." she says, "they have a lord of the rings book now?"

Chocolat: a great movie, and it has johnny depp in it! and he plays the guitar :D and it shows lots and lots of chocolate... mmm 8-) (<-chocolate man)

Moulin Rouge: a great movie! my whole family went to this movie together. my sister had already seen it, and loved it. my mom hadn't seen it, and was expecting the best. my dad hadn't seen it, and was expecting the worst (not a big nicole kidman fan). i hadn't seen it, and was expecting a really boring musical. we all came out liking it (some of us singing... me  )

ooh ooh...I love movies...

PP the blonde geeky kid's name is Anthony Michael Hall.

I too recommend anything by John Hughes (ie Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen candles) yet my all time favorite John Hughes film is Mr Mom it is about a young man who looses his job in a car factory and becomes a home maker while his wife ventures out into the booming world as a business executive...just out right hilarious

Amelie is another film I adore. It is just so whimsical and light, yet all the while secretly teaching the values of living life to the fullest...Our Bones are not Made of Glass...

White Christmas Something between the blue organdy dresses and the red velvet capes, tap dance numbers and the velvet vocals of Bing Crosby I have fallen in love with this 1950's movie musical.

Indiana Jones I love this triology, although it does not compare to Back to the Future...hehe...Harrison Ford is so cool in these movies, that is all that needs to be said

Ten Things I Hate About YOU It's like a modern day John Hughes film, but with really cool girl-ska music and a lot of hilariously witty lines..."i down wit it, i got the 411 and there ain't no way i'm going to let you get jiggy wit some guy--i don't care how dope his ride is...momma don't raise no fool"

Animal House Um this film has no real value except for the fact that is just one of those funny ones that is just ranchy and has no meaning..."was it over when the germans bombed pearl harbor? -Germans? --Shut up, he's on a roll..."

The Blues Brothers Not only are John Belushi and Dan Akyrod incredibly hilarious with out trying to be in this film, the music rocks...the movie is a modern day musical with tributes to not only real r&b music but to rock, jazz, classical, polka, country...everything..."We're on a mission from God"

there are so many films i really like, but i'm blanking out so i'll have to come back and talk about them later...
