I live in the southernmost part of Alabama in America, and our crime isn't too bad. My city is fairly large but its kinda like self-segregated. There's like the poorer parts of the city with all the low income housing projects. Nobody steps foot in those places without an armed guard. Even police are scared of those kinds of places. But they're all in the northern part of my city kinda past downtown. But our streets are pretty safe. We have pretty strict local laws that I'm sure discourage a lot of the crime so I feel safe.

I live in a small town in Virginia, USA...needless to say (that rhymed) there is TOO much crime. A man was murdered last year...biggest crime in a while. Oh, except that almost every kid in the highschool here (Yeah, there's only one) is smoking reef....but not too much hard drug use.

I think drug laws are too harsh anyway....

But crime here isn't bad. No muggings or anything (at least no on a normal basis...)

I heard that the crime rate has increased in Austria. Well, yesterday someone broke into our office and took computer monitors, laptops, coffee and cleaning lady's robe. :o

I live in a rather small village in west Austria (it's a huge difference whether you live in Vienna or in Tyrol/Vorarlberg) and I can say that I don't have to be afraid of being mugged or murdered. Unfortunately, there are - in my opinion - quite a lot of sexual molesters or fathers abusing their daughters.

But what I noticed is that in the last few months there has been a lot of trouble with criminal children.
Mostly they steal a car, drive around and finally crash into a wall. They are almost all 9 - 12 years old. One child, he's 9, was finally sent to a boarding school for difficult children about 3 weeks ago. He stole cars repeatedly. By now, everytime I see those sunday drivers braking all the time, I'm, like, "oh my, not a car kiddy again"

Last week two 12 and 14-year-old boys tried to steal a bus, but they didn't manage to start it, so they kind of demolished it. The next day they sneaked into a train and when that didn't work as well they smashed the windows. Then they went to a taxi stand and smashed the taxicabs' windows, too. Gosh.

Well, I said before that Slovakia's biggest problem is corruption. Unfortunately, it seems like that's not everything. We've got a black flag at university now as a student was murdered recenly. She came to her appartment and there were thieves, they killed her, just like that. Poor girl, it's so hard to believe.

Wow, i thought it was bad in my neck of the woods. I live in Wisconsin, which is nothing, but in Chicago we have murders on a daily basis.

First of all :welcome: Welcome to BandO

Why would Wisconsin be a "rough neck of the woods"?
I know that Chicago is pretty bad; how close are you to the windy city?

I live in Upstate New York and we have a fair amount of crime. Unfortunately we are pretty high on the murder list per capita for this part of the country.

by the way there are some very good ways to avoid being mugged-
1)act deaf or mute and just show funny signs to the guys in front of you
2)when see someone suspicous you pretend that you're in a big hurry and run past him as fast as you can
3)this is for people who are very brave or plain stupid(achem...)-ask the guy for the correct time-it's a very risky profession and it works only on beginners. They get frustrated and leave you alone, never revealing their intentions

And finally-the most important one of them all-run quickly into a crowded place screaming for help. One time i almost got stabbed by a guy but i ran away using my incredible...luck  .I couldn't dream that night

that could be true... but do you reckon that some of the crime is caused by the fact that guns are banned, so people don't have to worry about a shopkeeper whipping out a hand gun if you're trying to rob the place?

Well, I live in a little city in the inner south of Portugal. Here we don't have any crime. We can walk in the streets at any hour of the day and we never get robbed or something like that. So, as you can see, I live in a very quite city and the whole Portugal is a very calm country! :)

I live in the middle of Amish country sooo, Our idea of crime is amish parties where there are a couple hundred under aged drinkers in a field. Then when the cops try to bust it up they all take off through the feilds and into the woods on foot making a run for it.
(They only get in trouble if the are arrested.) :-?
