as some of you know i visited Romania not very long ago it was a long trip for me.I was only there for two weeks but i saw a lot of things that i know will stay with me for ever.

i was observing in a hospital and staying with a doctor. SHe was an Anaesthatist so we were in surgery quite a lot i also spent a lot of time in intensive care.

i was able to go into operating rooms and watch all the operations. I didn't think i'd be able to handle it, seeing that sort of thing in real life, but when i was actually there, there was no way i could have gona all wierd. i was very privaliged to be allowed to watch the fantastic team at work.

The operating rooms themselves were all different. The equipment and lighting in each were a mish mash of old and new and were from different countries.

I corridors in the hospital were uninspiringly bleak and the intensive care wards were very deppressing.

The only way i could have told i was in the paediatric ICU was the age of the patients.

I doctors and nurses do such an amazing job. Its so hard because they don;'t have all the equipment thats common place in the uk, they have all the expertese but nothing that can help them use it.

All sorts of things are maticulasly sterilised and reused.

it disgusts me that people in my country complain about things ike waiting lists.

I'm sorry to just plonk all this stuf here but before i went i was totally unaware of it all. i am so pleased that i now know about it, i thought some of you might like to know as well.

you don;t have to write anything in reply to this if you don;t want to its just something i wanted to share.

Any comments would be welcome though.

Wow. That's somewhat creepy. Makes me think a bit before going over to Eastern Europe. It's saddening that they lack updated things to help perform their job.

I agree with you on this han lin. I live in the US, and it seems like all I ever hear is people complaining, and it's like things over here could be way worse than they are.

I think that you are really lucky though, because now that you have seen something like this, you can appreciate the things you have better-- do you know what I mean?

Very well said, AccioNiffler. The US, and other countries, take things for granted, things which som countries depend on to live, eat, and provide subsistence for themselves and their families. I wonder what would happen if those countries had things like better cars, computers an television.

Wow, thanks for sharing your story with us...

It really makes me think, and put look back on my life that I take forgranted....this especially hits home because of the friends I made while working at a summer camp who were brothers from Romania...I had no idea...wow

They took what they have for granted(US). If you visit some part of Asia & Africa it'll be nastier. That's just the world :-?

it really was a life changing experience and i can't wait to go back there.

It was really hard to go out there and have people crying out to you to help them.

i agree about africa i visited there once, ( Gambia) My dad had to set up a computer link with a primary school. The two countrys are amazing and the people are so industrious and have so much more ambition and enthusiasm.

I wish i could have gone with you Han Lin. It would have been such an amazing experience!! I dont know if i would have survived though because i feel really strongly about things like that - the way we have so much and others have so little. I think the UK (i dont know about the USA) waste so much money. I mean (sorry to ppl who disagree) but footballers for example get paid millions, unbelievable amounts which could be going to other countries or people like Doctors and Nurses who need it!! It makes me mad just thinking about it!! :x

littlebib, that happens over here in the US as well. For instance, most movie stars here make more money than the President. The people from the TV show friends make a million dollars an episode, it's ridiculus.

Though I have to say, I think it's a lot more countries that this happens in other than just the US and the UK.
