Hmm...I don't like this book...

Postby TDM » Friday 6 August 2004 3:53:19am

Okay, I need help. I didn't put this in St. Mungo's because it's not really a problem, it's just a case of idiocy on someone else's part. Now, this summer, my dad somehow came to the conclusion that I don't read anymore...hmm...his first mistake, especially when I'm on a site for a book! So, he "made" a deal with me. Basically, he forced it upon me. So, he's making me read 3 books of HIS CHOICE! That, is his second mistake. So, he forces none other than a science fiction book on me. Third mistake. So, I bluff my way through that book (and his little quiz afterwards). I never did read that book, but I got away with it. So, he asked me if I liked it. I of course said no, and then I said that I would have had more fun if there were hot pokers gouging out my eyes. And I meant it. So, he then said this, "Well, you like Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings...that's science fiction." I could've hit him on the spot. I clearly defined those books as fantasy, but he's stubborn, so I just gave up because I'm sick of looking at him and listening to his voice. So, then he forced another book on me (this one 4 times bigger, with half as big as print). Science fiction again.

And here's what I need from you guys. If you have ever read "Wingman" by Mack Maloney, please tell me what it is about. Or, if you know a good place where I can find a summary of it, that would help also. Basically, I'm on the end of my ropes here, because what's the point of reading a book that you are going to hate? Seriously now. So, please, help me.

Sorry for the double post, but maybe this could also help:

The final war is over - Disarmed and leaderless, the United States is united no longer. The capital city of Washington has been reduced to a smoking pile of radioactive rubble. In weeks a proud nation is decimated in a deadly rain of treachery and deceit, driven to the depths of chaos and madness under the brutal heel of the evil Soviet warlords. Out of the blasted ruins of a once great land emerges a hero for the ages. Hawk Hunter, the brilliant ace fighter pilot. A fearless man of extraordinary abilities crossing a war-blackened landscape, a nightmarish breeding ground of fanaticism, slavery and unspeakable carnage; of violence, disorder and death. A savage lone warrior on the bloody road to retribution, keeping alive the indomitable spirit of a forgotten dream called "America".

The first book in Mack Maloney's Wingman series came out in 1987. By 1999 there were 15 more, so you know Maloney (a pseudonym) is doing something right.

do we? sounds like a terribly boring book to me

You can usually find a plot summary or at least a message board at http://www.sparknotes.com. That's how I got through my Senior Brittish Lit class.

Just the first one. Well, I'm so glad that you guys are cooler about me worming my way out of this than the other forum I posted on. A few of them started yelling at me and calling me illiterate. Stupid people...I just don't like the book. Broccoli, thanks for the sites, I'm going to go through their topics for stuff on the first book. And no, that's all I have to read, so the entire series is safe from me calling it horrible (but I still will  ). Thank you guys, and any more help would be appreciated!

lol i suppose it would be hard to call you illiterate on this forum since it's about a book!

anyways, i say why read a book you won't enjoy? (unless it's required for school, then you better read it or at least watch the movie ;-) )
