Okay. I'm horrible at making decisions, so I'm asking you guys to help me.

I just read Robert Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land, and I'm so tempted to change my screenname to Gillian Boardman, the main female character. If you want me to explain the plot and Jill's significance to you, I will.

But the main point of the post was to ask you guys which name you liked better, Hermione, or Gillian Boardman, just plain Jill, or just plain Gillian . . .

Paul, if this doesn't belong here, you can delete it, okay? :)

What is Gillian Boardman's character like and who do you think your own personality suits better? Hey, I've just realised - isn't Robert Heinlein a science fiction writer? Oooh, tell me more about the story (don't give away the ending though). :)

By the way, no need for deletion - The Great Hall is the perfect place to discuss anything that doesn't fit elsewhere, as long as it's non-Zonko related.

that's your decision, i guess. i've only had three usernames throughout my entire internet life, so i guess that i wouldn't be the person to ask. if you're hooked on it at the moment, you may later regret changing your username. i guess you could just start to use your old one again, but if you did change it, you would have to change your e-mail and everything, because i think that most forums only accept one e-mail address (meaning that two people can't register under the same one). or is this one different?

Hey, if you can't decide on one, what about a combination of the two then?
Hermione Jill, Gillian Granger, Hermione Boardman, Jillione Boardger...(the last one is not to be taken seriously :P )...otherwise I'd say you should chose the one that describes your character best.

greetings, :cat: Siana :cat:

Okay, for Paul's sake, and for whoever else is interested, I'll do my best to explain the story . . . though be forewarned; I suck at explaining plotlines. Here goes:

Sometime before the book begins, the government sent an expedition of four married couples to Mars. The people on the expedition vanish, leaving only the shuttle and the baby boy behind. By the time this boy is discovered, he is a grown man, and he has learned all the customs and language of the Martians. The rest of the book centers around how the Man from Mars adjusts to life on Earth, and how the people on Earth adjust to him. The character Gillian Boardman plays a crucial role in helping him adjust; she guides him throughout the course of the novel and eventually (I think) marries him.

Actually, if I changed my name, it would be more because I actually liked the name than because I liked the character, so I don't think I'd regret it . . .

Thanks Hermione, it sounds interesting. Maybe a bit like the movie with David Bowie as "The Man Who Fell To Earth"?

You can change your screenname at any time (without changng anything else) using your Profile page. The board won't, however, let you go back to a name you previously used. For example if Hermione changed her name to Gillian Boardman, the board wouldn't let her go back to using the Hermione screenname. However, there is a way around this - I can go into the heart of the board's database to change things back if anyone did want to go back to a name they previously used. They would just need to request me to do this.

To avoid confusion, two different people can't use the same screenname though (technically it's probably possible for me to manually do in the heart of the database, but it would be too confusing for anyone to identify who is who, and could cause minor admin problems), so there can't be two Hermiones or two TheDragonMasters, or 12,321 12321s. :)

well, that's jsut nifty. i know that it could be done by going into the database, because a webby at another board did that for me. he changed my name from fast dragonite to TheDragonMaster. however, it really didn't matter, because that specific board went down in under a week after he did that. o well, it's a different board! but that is cool how you can just change it in your profile.
