Sorry to have to do this folks but I've just switched the signature option off for now. Not sure if this will be permanent of temporary yet but its unfortunately something which I think had to be done.

Yes, I'm afraid so...had to take quite a while to get her posts (not to mention the name) tidied up.

I'm not sure, but there may be other advantages (regarding search engine ranking) in keeping the signature option off for now, although in a few months time I'm intending to upgrade the boards here, so there should be more personalization posibilities then.

So that's why it wouldn't work! Thanks, Paul. Any chance you may let us post a pic from a site in the future? Not ridiculously huge, just a tiny little HP button or something? Just curious.

Welcome Ladysnape :welcome:
As long as you've got permission (usually from the copyright holder or from someone who has the power to give permission on behalf of the copyright holder), there's no problem at all with pics...but ya gotta be really careful. It's not just copyright which is a possible minefield but also if you're hot-linking to an image from someone else's site, this is a use of their bandwith, so you'd need to make absolutely certain that the hot-linking is authorised too.

As long as you're absolutely certain of all that, though, pics are a totally fine addition to the board and a nice addition of color.

It all sounds horribly official-sounding I know, but basically it's legal stuff and sites can and do get closed down or worse if they don't stick to these things.

The easiest way of course would be to create your own non-trademark-infringing pics. if anyone has their own piccies they've created and would like to be able to put on the board, just ask it can be sorted

(Yick, I realy dislike all this official stuff!)

Maybe if when people edit their signature it could go to you or a moderator first to be screened, and if it is bad then reject it.... Just an idea.....

It is a nice idea but the board only allows a global "on" or "off" for signatures. The more I think about it, the less likely it is that the signature option will be back to be honest. On a brighter note though, I've been trying out the upgraded forum which I'll be fully installing in around 2 weeks time. It does have some nice extra features which hopefully will make up for the lack of signatures.

Sounds cool  You can hardly get any better than this forum layout, though.

Thanks Wedge - the overall look of the upgrade is a little bit more modern, but it should allow me to adjust the settings, so don't worry - if folks don't like one particular look, I should be able to make changes.

Back on the subject of siggies, do you know when we'll be able to use them again?
