The Next Dumbledore Rumours

Postby LadySnape » Friday 15 November 2002 6:25:47pm

Okay, here's what I read in the paper today.

One of these 3 actors are being looked at to play Dumbledore:

Ian McKellan
Christopher Lee
Sean Connery

Now this is just stupid. Rumour has it that Chris Lee was originally chosen to play DD before Harris was asked to. He says this is not true.

As far as I am concerned, neither Ian or Chris should play DD. They are in LOTR for pete's sake! Using either of them would be stupid and it would ruin all HP and LOTR movies. You can't have the actor who played Gandalf play DD. That is the stupidest damn thing I have ever heard of.

I think Sean Connery would be awesome. He has that deep voice and he looks well enough to fill DD's shoes for the remainder of the movies. :D

I don't know who Christopher Lee plays in LOTR, but in my opinion, they CANNOT cast LOTR actors in HP. That's retarded. Why not just kick Radcliffe out then, and let Elijah Wood play Harry? I mean, really! :x

not sean connery!!!!

richard harris didnt have that strong accent sean connery has thatd be awful....

christopher lee is saruman....and i dont see what the problem with lotr actors in hp is

they r playing the part in the movie....they r not the actual character in the movie...i see no reason why one lotr actor couldnt do another role....they wont be dressed up as the lotr character....u probly wont even notice if they did film it with an lotr actor....the job of an actor is to act in many different movies why shouldnt an lotr actor be able to play a harry potter character...if they r the best actor for the job then lets have them i say...who cares what else they have done or r working on...it makes no difference to the role they play in the hp movie unless they r a rubbish actor but would u accuse ian or christopher of being unable to play different roles (be a rubbish actor) normally...no....

I guess you are right. It's just that I am "used to" seeing Ian McKellan as Gandalf and that will probably be the role he will best be known for. Whereas Richard Harris will always be remembered as Albus Dumbledore. I think Connery can lose the accent if necessary. Look at Nicole Kidman, who has a strong Australian accent and she doesn't use it in her movies very often, if at all.

*LOL* And I bet Daniel Radcliffe would love to have a little chat with Sean about James Bond, since that is Daniel's dream role. :)

ok...i dont know how true this is but heres the latest rumour for u all....

Meet Harry's New Dumbledore

Harry Potter's getting a brand new headmaster--and his name isn't Ian McKellen.

Contrary to rampant tabloid reports over the past several days claiming the current Gandalf portrayer would pull double wizard duty as Hogwarts' Professor Albus Dumbledore, E! Online has learned that another acclaimed British thespian has in fact been tapped for the role vacated by the death of Richard Harris.

Michael Gambon, who picked up Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his virtuoso performance as Lyndon Johnson in HBO's Path to War, will be donning the robes as Dumbledore for the upcoming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, according to a source familiar with the production.

Following Harris' death from cancer in October, there had been much speculation over who would take over the role, with leading candidates supposedly including McKellen and even Harris' stand-in. But McKellen never seriously considered the role (he's already done the franchise thing with The Lord of the Rings and X-Men) and producers ultimately went with Gambon, a classically trained actor who studied with Laurence Olivier and whose credits include Gosford Park, The Insider and the lead in the British miniseries The Singing Detective.

The paper here said that Ian McKellan himself has confirmed that he will be taking over the part of Albus Dumbledore. I thought about this for a long time, and despite what I said before about him being Gandalf always, I am really excited to see him as DD.

They were going to try and use previous footage of Harris in the new movies and just manipulate mouth and facial movements, etc. but there just wasn't enough footage of him.

I have no idea why the stand-in DD is not going to do it.

When in the movies did they need a stand in for DD? I don't recall him doing anything that would require a stand-in. :-?

theyd need stand in if actor was busy and it was only a distance shot or something...also they would have needed stand in for movie 2 since he was probly getting ill by the time they filmed that......

Makes sense. I guess I was thinking by "stand-in" they meant "Stunt-man". Different thing altogether I guess. :)

I think Ian McKellen would make the most sense.

Sean Connery as Dumbledore? Anything but him! Anything! Well . . . except for Bruce Willis . . . or someone like that. But please not Sean Connery. I don't think they'd be that daft to cast him in the role. Would they?

Nooooo! Dumbledore isn't scottish and he doesn't have a strange lisp either!

I think they could make anyone look like dumbledore because most of his face is hidden behind his beard and hair...it's just getting the voice and mannerism right.

I think it'd be odd to have ian McKellan because everyone is so used to him being gandalf, it would confuse everything.

I've read several times that in the second movie, when Harris didn't have speaking parts, his double stood in for him due to his illness. I've also read that the family wants to see the double take his place, the double has been with Harris for most of his career and has perfected many of Harris' traits.
