Smith?

Postby horcrux hunter911 » Thursday 13 July 2006 7:20:06am

I was reading the sixth book for about the tenth time when I noticed realized that the fat old lady with the Hufflepuff artifacts has the last name Smith,as does Zacharias Smith who is a Hufflepuff. Anyone think that Zacharias may become a little more important later. J.K. has made a seemingly unimportant character crucial before.

Perhaps, or perhaps she just likes the juxtaposition of pairing a highly unusual fist name with a very common surname?

I see what your saying but I meant that since we're pretty much positive that the hufflepuff goblet voldemort took from the lady is a horcrux and that Zacharias could be related to the lady who said she was descended from Helga Hufflepuff, possibly smith could have a hand in the finding of that particular Horcrux, or at least some information for Harry

It's possible, but it's easily as possible that they just happen to share a name. Harry's mother shares her maiden name with Mark Evans, a kid Dudley used to use as a punchbag.

good point chimera. I wouldn't have paid any attention to the connection if smith hadn't been in hufflepuff since there could be no real connection, but I could be way out in left field with this whole theory

It'd be interesting to see if anything does come from it.

we don't really know if Mark Evans may turn out to be related to lilly either, since lilly was muggle born

Nah - She says on her website somewhere that she regretted giving him the surname of Evans because he's not related to her and she got asked loads of questions about it when its actually not relevant.

I am intrigued by Smith though...

I find recurring surnames to be intriguing!
There's also Sturgis Podmore/ Sir Patrick Delaney Podmore to work out. Podmore isn't that common a name, is it?

Yes, I've just looked it up: he is the leader of the Headless Hunt, who refued to accept Nearly Headless Nick's application.

Probably not... I don't think it'll matter much. Maybe there'll be a comment in Book 7 that says he's a great great great great grandson or something...
