I think that't a good idea! Every time we do something we lose an opportunity to do something else, so there might be a lot to discuss...

what do you have to do as moderator? since i came up with the idea i don't think i'd mind moderating the forum, but then again i don't exactly know what that involves, so i don't want to commit myself too soon. you know?

Neo's thread at http://www.broomsticksandowls.com/forum ... .php?t=811 discusses the basics of what Moderators do. Normally you need to be a member for a month before becoming a moderator, but seeing as the "What If" forum is your idea - and a good one too! :-) then if you'd like to be Moderator I'll set it up with yourself as Moderator by the end of the weekend. :)

oh, hey paul,
you think you could add "jazz master" to my heading thing so that eventually it'll say "fully qualified wizard and jazz master"? if you could that would be the coolest! thanks.

well, good luck mint. triple posts are truly hard to come up with. it takes two of three things to be able to accomplish this remarkable feat: lack of clarity, lack of focus, and/or lack of knowlege. it takes a truly special person to have the required qualities.

Happy to say that the "What If?" section is now up and running, and very pleased to announce zledm007 as Moderator. Congratulations zledm007 and enjoy the Moderator abilities. I've put Mint's question as part of the description - probably one of the biggest What If's in the books so far! And, like Broccoli, I think there could be a huge amount of intriguing possibilities for discussion here.

Sincere thanks for the excellent idea zledm007 and for the help as Moderator for the new section.

glad to see it up!! it's just awesome that you take members' ideas seriously and allow them to help shape the way this forum runs. I haven't really had too much expirience w/ discussion forums but i know that there aren't many people that would take other people's ideas to heart. they would run things strictly on their own ideas. i think it's just awesome the way you do things. thanks paul!

Thanks, zledm007 - I do welcome new ideas and, although some may not make it into fruition and other may take a while, it's always appreciated that someone has taken the time to come up with new thoughts on how to improve, add to, or make the forum better for everyone.

I particularly like the "What If?" idea as it chimes with my interest (although severe lack of in-depth knowledge) in quantum theory, which I've briefly mentioned in this thread: http://www.broomsticksandowls.com/forum ... 3&start=15 . Many quantum scientists seriously believe that there are an infinite number of universes and that for every decision or action we make, like Broccoli mentioned, there is another universe where you have made the other decision or action, which leads to a whole different path of reality occuring in that particular universe.

well, you know, and in-depth knowlege in quantum physics would takes decades upon decades to obtain. it's awesome that you have an interest in it. if i wasn't going to school for music i'm sure that's what i'd be giong for. my favorite book, (well other than HP) "Timeline" by Michael Chriton deals a lot with quantum theory and such. if you haven't read it i think you'd enjoy it.

You're probably right about it taking decades, zledm007 - every time I read about quantum stuff my brain starts to go "ouch"! I read Jurrasic Park by Michael Crichton before seeing the movie and thought it was really good and well-written. I really like The Andromeda Strain movie too, made from the book he wrote, although have never read that particular book itself. From reading Jurassic Park I think he's a really good author who (at least in Jurassic Park) keeps things rolling along at a non-stop pace, and I would definately read something by him again, so I'll watch out for Timeline if I get the chance. Hadn't heard of that one until you mentioned it but it does sound like it could be interesting. :)
