Hi,

did you ever think about the shape hermoine`s boggart took?
she said in book 3 that it was prof.mcGonagall telling her that she failed all exams.i don`t know, but i think that a story she made up quickly.when lupin first showed a boggart to them in class, all of them had to fight it except hermoine and harry.lupin told harry later why he was not allowed to tackle it (he thought harry`s boggart would turn into voldemort and frighten the class).

but we do not know why hermoine did not get the chance to fight it.may be there is something about hermoine we still not know.i have no idea what it could be,but i think there is something.I mean she really focuses much on good grades, but that can not be her greatest fear.

any ideas?

kathrin

Good thinking Snuffel, this is really interesting! And welcome to the boards by the way ! :P I'm about to reread book 3 so I'll pay extra attention to this!

I think it might have to do with the absence of friends other than Harry and Ron (and perhaps Victor Krum) in her life. She hasn't got real friends besides them, and perhaps Lupin knew this (if he had talked about his students with the other teachers before starting his lessons) and was afraid that Hermione's boggart might turn into a dead Harry or a dead Ron or both?

Yea, ture, it could ccause twists in the future, maybe about something about being a muggle or something like that. That was an important detail in the book, and probally JKR is saving it for a later book. Maybe book 6??

Yah . . . knowing Ms. Rowling, we're probably going to have a big shocker sometime in the future about Hermione!!

But I don't think she was lying about the McGonagall boggart- she seemed pretty shook up, and I don't know that she could think of something on the spur of the moment if she were that emotional. But it's Hermione . . . anything could happen, I guess ;)

Maybe Hermione's boggard would be a house elf telling Hermione that it didn't want to be free!

I don't think Hermione made that up. I think it's completely normal that she has schol related nightmares because she' just that type of person. Lupin didn't choose her to face the boggart because she answered some questions in the beggining of the class. So did Harry (but Lupin didn't choose Harry because of another reason).

Nice thinking, but I don't think so.

I don't know about her actual encounter with the boggart at the end of the book, but at the beginning, she was just starting to delve into some illegal activity (time travel). For Hermione, who is usually a stickler for rules, this had to be pretty frightening. Maybe Lupin knew about her class schedual and the time-traveling and figured her boggart would be the minister of magic coming to take her away.... :-?

I'f failing all hertest was her worst fear then, I don't think it is still. Not with the second war around and Harry the only one to defeat LV.

Hermoine`s Boggart is a bit of a mistery, but maybe Lupin thought (rightly) that hermione isnt the kind of person who can face a boggart more or less easily...

Hermione's head of her class... I doubt Lupin would have kept her from fighting the boggart just because she'd have trouble... that's why they're in school, to get past that. Nope, I think his reasoning was similar to why he didn't let Harry fight the boggart: he knew the reaction from other people could get dangerous.

I go more with Athena's theory. I guess there must be something really important behind it.

Hermione only faced a boggart in the 3rd year exams. Fears tend to change over time. Now it is quite likely that Hermione's greatest fear would be to do with loosing her friends or Lord Voldemort and so forth.

However anybody who's done exams will know that it is kinda stressful, and hence during exam time for somebody like Hermione, whos grades are important to her, failing would be her worst fear, at the end of book 5 i would guess her fear is failing her OWL's

yeah, I kinda think that at the beginning of book 3, she was most worried about being caught with the time-turner (and Lupin would have needed to keep her secret)... at the end, with the stress of exams coming up, she was worried about her grades... at certain points during book 4, she would have been worried about harry's safety (she agreed with Sirius that someone within Hogwarts was trying to kill him), and during book 5, she would have been worried about Ron and Harry... or her OWLS
