Sorry for the outburst in the title!

http://www.mugglenet.com/jkrinterview3.shtml

Excellent interview. Check out the last question.....

MA: Was there anyone else present in Godric’s Hollow the night Harry’s parents were killed?

JKR: No comment.

That is huge!!!!!!!!
Any idea who it could be?
My money's on Wormtail, but I'm only guessing really.

Oooh, if we get to have guesses, my guess is Snape. My guess will be that Snape went there to warn Lily and James of voldemorts plans since Snape was a DE and all, it may be at that point when he learns Voldemort is going to kill a baby that Snape realizes he's made the wrong decision to be a DE. So he goes there to warn James and Lily that Voldemort is on his way but before they manage to escape Voldemort shows up (Snape apparently manages to hide from him). That's my little theory!

If that theory is even remotely correct, then that could be the very reason Dd trusts snape so much. Snape went there to protect them but moreso, to protect their inocent child, which we all know as HP. Oooh, I'm loving this little theory

Ahhh that's a very good one.
And one of the reasons behind his contempt for Harry is that he saw LV kill Lily (who he had secretly admired) when she died to protect her son.

But Snape could have been there as a DE, accompanying Voldemort as a reward-of sorts-for providing him with the details of the prophecy. And then...maybe...the sight itself of Lily's death was what made him repent and change sides.

How's that?!

Except that Snape didn't provide Voldemort with the wherabouts of Lily's home...Peter Pettigrew did. He was the Potter's secret keeper and he is the one who gave in and told LV the whereabouts.

But I agree Snape could've accompanied LV to the potter's house and seeing the tragedy is what changed his mind about being a DE.

wow thats interesting. I bet that it is Snape who was there and he went to warn James and Lilly. He could have been brought with LV but I kind of doubt that, after all that DD said about LV liking to be alone I doubt he would bring someone with him when he was going to do something as important as that. I dont know maybe that doesnt mean anything but thats just what i thought.

If Snape was there, I don't think it could have been that event specifically that turned him from being a Death Eater. Dumbledore says in one of the Pensieve scenes that Snape turned before Lord Voldemort fell. Then again, he could be saying this just to protect Snape from prosecution. I think the scene was in book 4, with all those court memories.

She also says in the interview that Lily is offered the chance to live, but that James is not... again - interesting...
I think it might be a house elf that was there...

I really like the Snape idea. That would explain so much. Even if Snape did leave the DEs before LV tried to kill Harry, that would only make the case stronger for the theory that it was him who was there. He wouldn't have to be a DE anymore to have known that LV wanted to kill Harry. He heard the prophecy and told LV. I have a feeling LV didn't take very long in concluding which child (Harry or Neville) was his threat. LV is so sure of himself all the time. I have a hard time imagining him wrestling with the options.

Snape went to warn Lilly that her son was in danger...yeah...that sounds good...also would explain DD's faith in Snape

Maybe it was Snape who told VD that the Potters were a threat because of the prophecy...and then Wormtail told him where they were...

You could also interpret what JKR said as being a "no" but that would make me a killjoy and I'll just go with you all and say Snape as well. That could very well have been what scared him away the first time, if as I want to believe he is still good.

Hang on a minute, if Snape had already turned against LV before his downfall, but was a double agent rather than leaving the DE's altogether, why didn't he warn everyone that Peter was a traitor? He never even told DD about Peter beng a DE, that seems like something he would have divuldged if he was truly reformed.
