"But.." Kiara protested, and Ryu brought his finger up to his lips, a silent request for her to be quiet. Then he left the room and the door locked. Kiara went up to the door and tried to checked, just in case. She was definately trapped. She cursed to herself silently. The camera Ryu had smashed was also her phone. She looked around, trying to find another way out, but the room had no other doors and no windows. She let her eyes fall on the man lying in his bed, and as she looked at him he stirred a little. Kiara froze. He did not wake up, and she could hear him breathing deeply again. She let her own breath out, and then walked over to sit on the bed. She put her face in her hands and rung them through her hair. She looked around again, wondering if these wizards were into such technology as surveilance cameras. She didn't see any, so she risked taking her necklace off and having a quick look at the footage. She could hardly contain her excitment. She had captured everything, from being knocked down and frozen, to the hospital, and even Ryu's face as he angrily told her off. She smiled. He had a soft spot, that was for sure. He was no killer, but he definately hated this war. Everyone hated it, really. I mean, who could love a war, other than those who benefited from it? Kiara looked at her watch. For some reason, it had stopped ticking. "What..?" she said quietly and took it off, shook it and stared at it. It had frozen at the time she had been captured. She layed back on the bed roughly and stared at the roof. It was going to be a long night. |

"Hey! Not so rough! Let GO!" Kiara pulled herself free and straightened up so she could walk on her own. The man allowed it for a moment, and it was all the time Kiara needed. She bolted, pushing her way past the woman, through the door and into the hallway. A quick assessment, a split second decision and she chose to run right as fast as she could. The hall was dark for a while and then she noticed some light. She nearly fell over as she tried to stop. She brought her hand up to her necklace, making sure it was working, as she beheld the infirmary, filled with people with every kind of injury. She stood in the open doorway un noticed, and was in awe at the techniques they were using to heal their sick and injured. A woman was helping a man with his arm which was turned in a horrible direction. She simply put her 'wand' up and muttered some spell, and it contourted back to it's original form. And a woman who was bleeding so badly the whole bed was soaked and her skin had gone white was being cared for by a very young man, probably 12 or 13, and he was chanting something over her. The blood stained sheets started to turn white again, as the blood started to move off of it as if the flow was going backwards. Kiara's mouth dropped open. Behind her she felt something sharp press into her neck. She ventured a statement. "You can heal yourselves from any injury. " she turned slowly, and the man was there, keeping his wand pointed at her. "But it wouldn't be so uneven, if wizards were convinced to fight wizards. That's what this Dumbledore's army is trying to do, even up the odds? And if they do fight each other, there are ways that injury would be more permanent. Impossible to heal. That ... Avarda Kadarva spell..." As Kiara said it she knew she had made a mistake, but she would say anything to get a story. |

Kiara slumped in the chair and was almost sick from the reannimation of her body. Her head fell between her knees. She gasped and then sat up, flicking her hair out of her face. "How dare you ruin my equipment! That was very expensive!" she spat, deciding she would play as brave as she could. The man had destroyed the camcorder that was in her pocket; it was very thin, a little like a cel phone. She still had her necklace, and with her hands bound, she puffed out her chest so as to get the stone to focus on the two people in the room. A man, and a woman, and both watched her with a bored expression. |

Kiara flinched as more explosions went off inside the Wizarding Market, known as Diagon Alley. The army had moved in now, and it was a constant battle between local and federal authorities. The world was at war and it was not just the magical verses the non magical. The political storm caused by this new power struggle was evident to all people, politically minded or not. Kiara preferred to stay out of all that. She wanted the pictures, the gore and the reality that was, as the war terms go, "At the front."
"I'm going to go and take a closer look inside. " she said to her camera man, and tapped her necklace to indicate that she was coverered should there be any footage to capture.
Kiara waited beside the barracade where the alley went on and around a corner and when the time was right, she ducked under the tape and made her way deeper into Diagon Alley.
She looked around at the shop windows and could not make out what sort of shops they were. The windows were blackened from the fires and explosions. She stepped up to one shop that looked like it had once been a book shop. It had been forceably entered, and by the look of the place it had been ransacked. The shelves were pushed over and there were piles of books all torn and and laying on their backs. Kiara's heart ached for a moment; she had a soft spot for books. She went over to one and picked it up.
"Standard Book of Spells..." she said, turning it over to look at the cover. She started to leaf through the book, when she noticed a trap door under the pile of books. She bent down and started pushing the books off of the door. Then, when they were all out of the way, she listened. She tapped back to the door in her high heels and then removed them and crept back. She sat down and waited, watching the old fashioned latch on the trap door. |

Hehe, Hogwarts is an odd name, though. Thanks Obladi and hprocks!
Chapter 24: Keeping Up Appearances
I tried to avoid my parents the next day because I was afraid I'd let slip that Cinda was planning a surprise party instead of a dinner with just them. I spent the whole day brewing potions and reading, which wasn't out of the ordinary for me, so my parents didn't suspect a thing.
I was excited about seeing Kenzie at the party. I hadn't seen her at all the past full moon, since I wound up coming home relatively early. This party would hopefully be more fun than the New Year's one, since Kenzie would be there. I was a bit nervous about it because I knew my parents wouldn't react well, but there wasn't anything I could do about it.
We Apparated directly into Richard and Cinda's living room around six o'clock. The house was surprisingly quiet; I couldn't hear any signs of a party. Of course, since Cinda decided to 'surprise' us, she probably purposefully emptied out the living room for us to Apparate into.
Mum and Dad were planning on telling Richard and Cinda about Dad getting fired that night at dinner. I wasn't really sure how that was going to go. Plus, my parents would tell them about going to Scotland, which Dad had managed to schedule for the following Tuesday. I had a feeling that this would be the last school we'd visit. Mum and Dad seemed especially eager to get out of Australia now that Dad was out of work. They'd probably make a decision after visiting Scotland.
"Julie, darling!" Cinda burst into the room in a cocktail dress and threw her arms around Mum.
"Hi, Mum," Mum half-smiled at her.
"How are you doing?" Cinda asked.
"Could be better," Mum sighed.
"Well, I know just the thing to cheer you all up," Cinda grinned and I cringed. Luckily nobody saw me. "Just follow me upstairs!" Cinda told us.
Mum turned to look at Dad and they both shrugged. Matt followed Cinda eagerly, and my parents followed him. I reluctantly followed them, not really wanting to go.
The house remained eerily quiet as we ascended the stairs to the ballroom. Cinda seemed to get more and more excited as we went, which I took as a bad sign. Cinda stopped as soon as we reached the doors to the ballroom.
"Mum, what is it?" Mum asked questioningly.
"Just something I planned to lift your spirits," Cinda flashed a smile and opened the doors.
"Surprise!" The ballroom was packed and every person shouted as we entered. I froze and stared at everyone with my mouth open. I shouldn't really have been that surprised, since Cinda doesn't know the meaning of 'a small get together'.
I turned to the rest of my family. Mum was staring at everyone, her mouth gaping. Dad had a pained look on his face and was shaking his head. Matt was looking around eagerly, his eyes resting on the table of desserts.
"Mother. What. Did. You. Do." Mum snapped out of her shock and turned to glare at Cinda.
"I threw you a going away party!" Cinda shouted excitedly.
"Ever occur to you that that's exactly what we didn't want?" Mum snapped, "We came here today with more bad news and I expected us to be able to tell you and Dad alone. Find Dad and meet Walter and I downstairs. Now."
Cinda looked taken aback, but she immediately strode over to Richard, who was eating already and motioned him over. Mum and Dad had already turned and left the room. I would have loved to follow them downstairs and listened to Mum yell at Cinda, but at that moment, someone came up from behind me and put their hands over my face.
"Ahh!" I shrieked.
"Guess who?"
"Kenzie," I relaxed as I heard her voice. She dropped her hands and I turned to look at her.
"Hey, what's new?" Kenzie grinned at me, "This is some party. Your mum doesn't look too happy, though."
"She's not," I muttered, "She hates these parties. Plus, something bad happened yesterday, so she's kind of worried about that, too."
"Really? What?" Kenzie immediately looked concerned.
I looked around to check if anyone was paying attention to me and luckily they weren't. "Dad got fired," I whispered.
"What?!"
"Yeah, he did."
"From his top-secret Ministry job?" Kenzie asked.
I nodded, "Don't spread it around."
"I won't, but you're moving anyway, so why does it matter?"
"It'll make it harder for him to get a job wherever we move," I explained. "But I really don't want to talk about it."
"Ok. Let's go get something to eat."
I followed Kenzie to the nearest food table and people stopped to talk to me along the way. I went through the usual smile and nod routine with all of Cinda's friends who I barely knew. Kenzie and I found a deserted table near the back of the room and we sat down to eat.
"So, know where you're moving yet?" Kenzie asked as she stared eating a mini-quiche.
"Nope," I replied, "But we're visiting one in Scotland this week."
"Scotland? Cool," Kenzie said, "Maybe I could visit you there."
I shrugged. Depended on how 'wizardy' our new house looked. "Maybe."
"Amy!" I looked up to see Vivien standing behind me, along with Jared, Breanne, Alicia, Cassie, and Damien.
"Hey, Vivien," I gave her a forced smile.
"So, you're moving?" Vivien said as she sat down next to me. The rest of the crowd sat down as well.
"Yeah," I replied, and turned to Kenzie. "This is Vivien, Jared, Breanne, Alicia, Cassie, and Damien," I gestured to each of them.
"Hey," Kenzie waved.
"And this is Kenzie, she lives down the road," I told them.
"So why are you moving?" Vivien asked, "Hasn't your family lived here for, like, ever?"
"Uh, yeah," I muttered, "But my parents had a disagreement with the headmaster of my school, so they want me to switch schools."
"And you have to leave the country for that?" Breanne raised an eyebrow. Cinda must have told everyone that we were moving out of the country. "That's kind of stupid. My friend, Yolanda, got expelled from our school for bringing beer to the class picnic last year, and she just switched to a school only a half hour away or so."
"Er-" I began.
"I know! You can switch to our school!" Breanne announced.
I inwardly cringed. I don't think I'd go to their school even if I was a Squib. "Um, actually, I've got to switch to another school that's like the one I go to now."
"Ah, that weird school," Cassie said.
"Er, right. Anyway, there's only about one in each country."
"That's weird," Breanne replied, "So where are you going to move?"
"Not sure," I shrugged, "My parents are still looking. Either New York or Scotland."
"I love New York!" Breanne exclaimed, "Best city in the world. I can't believe you might live there. So unfair."
"Actually, New York State," I suppressed a laugh at the thought of us living in a city as busy as New York City.
"Oh," Breanne deflated, "Well that's boring. When are you leaving?"
"No idea," I told her, wishing I could just go somewhere with Kenzie and ignore the rest of the people at the table.
"Kenzie," a whiny voice said from behind us.
I turned around to see Kenzie's little sister, Morgan, standing with one hand on her hip and the other gripping Kenzie's other little sister, Maddie, by the arm. Maddie is only four and was holding a cupcake in her other hand. Her chubby face was covered in chocolate. I imagined her hair was as well, although it was hard to tell since her hair is dark brown.
"What?" Kenzie asked.
"Mum says you've got to watch Maddie," Morgan said, letting go of her sister. Morgan is twelve, although sometimes I think she acts sixteen. She wears make-up whenever she can get away with it and straightens her light brown hair pretty much everyday. Kenzie told me she asked for blonde highlights and her mother laughed.
"And why can't you do it?" Kenzie asked.
"Because I don't want to," Morgan smirked, "And Mum says you've got to do it. You're the oldest."
"Fine," Kenzie groaned. Morgan grinned and took off. I watched her and noticed that she was hanging out with Breanne's little sister. Figures. I imagine the two of them would get along very well. Breanne's little sister is very much like Breanne.
Breanne raised her eyebrow as Kenzie pulled Maddie onto her lap. "I guess we'll go get drinks now," Breanne gave her friends significant glances. I was guessing she didn't want to be around messy toddlers.
"See you in a little while," Vivien smiled as she got up with the rest of her friends.
"Let's go," I stood up as soon as they disappeared into the crowd.
"So those are the girls you hung out with at your grandma's New Year's Party?" Kenzie asked as she stood up with Maddie.
"Sure are," I groaned.
"They seem like a fun bunch," Kenzie laughed. "Morgan would fit right in."
"I'll have to thank Maddie for scaring them away," I said.
"She's good at that," Kenzie replied.
"Amy! Mrs. Dawe came over to us with a smile on her face. I grinned when I saw her. Kenzie's mum is tall and a bit on the chubby side, with curly brown hair that's about chin-length.
Mrs. Dawe was carrying Kenzie's little brother, Michael. Michael, at age two, is the youngest of the Dawe family. Kenzie's third little sister, Mari (short for Marianna), was following her mother. Mari is eight and a bit on the shy side. She looks like a younger version of Kenzie.
"Hi, Mrs. Dawe," I said as she reached us.
"How are you, dear?"
"All right," I said, "I mean, I don't want to move, but I don't have a choice."
"It's hard, I know," Mrs. Dawe replied, "But you'll be fine. And you're welcome to visit anytime you like."
"Thanks," I smiled.
"And how is your brother?" she asked.
"He's good," I told her, not really knowing what else to say.
"Glad to hear it. He certainly looks well tonight," Mrs. Dawe pointed to Matt, who was running around with a few other little kids. "Well, I think I'll go find your mother."
"Ok," I replied.
"Thanks for watching Maddie for me, Kenzie," Mrs. Dawe added.
"No problem," Kenzie sighed as her mother patted her on the arm.
"Let's go to my room," I suggested after Kenzie's mum left.
"Sure," Kenzie agreed.
I relaxed immediately when I had shut the door to my room behind us. I didn't really want to spend anymore time with Breanne and her friends that evening. I was sure they'd be getting drunk soon anyway.
"Think they'll find us in here?" Kenzie asked.
"Maybe. Depends if they want to find us," I told her, "Anyway, Maddie's still here, so chances are they'll just stay in the ballroom."
"So your parents didn't look too happy when they saw everyone here," Kenzie commented.
"They hate parties like this," I explained, "Well, they didn't used to mind them, but after Matt got sick they've become more private."
"That makes sense," Kenzie said.
"Cinda actually told Mum that she wanted us over for dinner tonight and we got here and there was the party."
"Did you know about it?"
"Yeah, Cinda wanted me to help plan it, but I told her no."
"Excellent," Kenzie grinned.
Kenzie and I spent the rest of the party in my room. We talked and played with Maddie. I found a few kid's games in my closet and Maddie loved them. Kenzie and I pretended not to know how to play, which cracked Maddie up. Then she proceeded to explain how to play. Kenzie and I let her win every game.
We were just finishing our fifth game of Candyland when someone knocked on the door.
"What?" I shouted.
"Everyone's leaving now, Amy," Cinda shouted back, "You've got to come say goodbye."
I groaned, "Want to come?"
"Sure, why not," Kenzie stood up, "Come on, Maddie."
The ballroom was indeed emptying when we got there. Plenty of the guests stopped to talk to me and I did the smile and nod thing again. I told them I'd keep in touch and update them about my life. Of course, in reality, I'd never see them again or talk to them. I wasn't too depressed about that, either.
"Amy!" Breanne shouted as she and her crowd exited the room, "You've got to email me! Here's my email!" She thrust a piece of paper into my hands. "It's got all of ours on it. Tell us how things at your new weird school go! And tell us where you move to, too."
"Er, sure," I gave her a forced smile, knowing I'd never 'email' her. I hadn't used email in my life.
Vivien gave me a huge hug and then looked at me. "Amy, stay in touch. I'll miss you."
"Miss you, too," I replied, almost truthfully. If I was going to miss any of them, it would be Vivien.
"Come on, you lot," Damien announced, "We've got to split. Party at Kevin's is going on."
"Right," Breanne replied, "So see you around, Amy. Or not, since you're moving and all."
"Yeah, bye," I said.
"Never going to talk to them again, right?" Kenzie whispered.
"Never," I laughed. "I might send Vivien a letter telling her where we are, but that's it."
Soon, the only ones left in the ballroom were my family and Kenzie's. Mr. and Mrs. Dawe were trying to round up all the kids, most of whom didn't want to leave. Kenzie and I were standing near Mum, who was glaring daggers at Cinda.
"Well, we'd better be going," Mrs. Dawe said once she and her husband had all of Kenzie's siblings following them.
"Thanks for coming," Mum said, "Really, I mean it. I could have done without everyone else."
"Well, of course we came. We're going to miss all of you. I actually want to have you all over for dinner before you leave. Just us. Let us know when you're going to leave and we'll set it up."
"That sounds great," Mum smiled, "I'll let you know soon."
I grinned at Kenzie. "That sounds ten times more fun than this party."
"Glad you think so, Amy," Mrs. Dawe said, "And we'll see you in a few weeks. Are you staying with your grandparents on a weekend this month?"
I thought to myself for a few seconds and remembered that the full moon would be on a Thursday that month. I sighed. I probably wouldn't get to see Kenzie much during this trip. "Yeah, on a Thursday, so I'll probably be going home on Saturday morning. There's always next month, though."
"Of course, dear," Mrs. Dawe smiled and then turned to Mum, "Take care, all of you. I hope Matt continues to get better."
"Thanks," Mum replied, "We'll see you soon."
"Bye, Kenzie," I gave my friend a hug, "See you in a few weeks."
"You, too," Kenzie smiled, and left the room with her family.
As soon as Kenzie's family left the room, Mum whirled around and stormed over to Cinda.
"Why did you do it, Mother!?" Mum demanded.
"Do what?" Cinda asked.
"The party!" Mum shouted, "You know perfectly well we do not like these things anymore! And for a good reason, too! Do you know how awkward it was for Walt and I today? I don't think you do. People I really haven't kept contact with were asking why we were moving. I couldn't tell them why! Walt and I had to make up elaborate stories as to what was going on so, number one, we could conceal that we're magical. And number two, to conceal that Matt is a werewolf! Do you have any idea how hard that is?"
"Julietta, calm down. Do you honestly think I wouldn't give my own daughter a going away party?"
"Yes! If, for once in your life, you thought about someone else besides yourself, you wouldn't have!"
"I was thinking of you!" Cinda yelled, "That's why I threw the party!"
"No it's not! You threw the party to 'keep up appearances'. That's what you've always been concerned about. Ever since I was a kid, it's always been 'what will everyone think'. You can't ever do anything without thinking about what other people will think."
"When you live the way we do, appearances have to be kept up!" Cinda replied.
"I don't live the way you do, Mum! Walter and I don't do that anymore! That's why we don't attend these things anymore. We like privacy and not having other people butting into our lives. That's why we're moving, Mother! Our whole world down here knows about Matt now, and it's turned everything upside down. We can't live in peace anymore. We just wanted to start over without leaving with a bang. But you couldn't let us do that, Mother, you couldn't."
"I want what's best for you, Julie. You're just running away from your problems."
"Running away? Running away?" Mum shrieked, "Oh, Mother, you have no idea! No idea whatsoever!"
"Yes, you're running away. That's what I call it when someone just decides to move to an entirely different country and start a new life!"
"I call it trying to make a better life for my children!" Mum exclaimed.
Mum was practically shaking. I had never seen her this mad before. She seemed more angry than she had been when my necklace had burned Matt. I stood frozen, staring at the two of them argue. Dad and Richard had stopped their cleaning up and were watching intently, but not interfering. Matt had crept over to where I was standing and was hiding behind me, with his head sticking out to watch.
"Better life?" Cinda raised her eyebrow.
"Yes, better life! Do you comprehend that if we stayed here, Matt wouldn't be able to go to school? It's even worse now. You realize that now, a simple thing like going shopping would cause him to be ostracized? Now, he couldn't walk into a store without people whispering and leaving the store. They do that when I enter a store, Mum. Imagine what they'd do to him," Mum lowered her voice and I could see tears starting to stream down her face.
"And your solution is to run to a different country?" Cinda asked, "Why not make it better here? Change their opinions. And if you can't, just make the best. Send Matt to a Muggle school. Teach him magic at home. You don't need to leave your home, Julie."
"Mother, I no longer call this country my home," Mum said, "Anyplace that treats my son like this is not home to me. And we can't change it. One family can't change the country. Walter's been fired and fined. He has no influence in the Ministry anymore. He was one of the few remaining people sympathetic to werewolves. All the laws that he'd prevented from passing will pass now. You must understand that, Mum. Things will get worse if we stay here."
"And things are better elsewhere?"
"Yes, at least in New York. And we're hoping in Scotland, too. We'll all have better lives there."
"For how long?" Cinda asked, "How long until the Ministries there are like the one here? Will you move again? When does it stop, Julie?"
"I don't know, Mum," Mum said, "But for now, we're leaving. I'm sorry if you're not happy about it, but that's life. And why are you telling me this now, anyway? Months ago, when we first told you we were moving, you were fine with it!"
"Fine with it?" Cinda looked shocked, "I would never be 'fine' with my daughter moving across the world! I merely thought that with time, you'd change your mind. You made a rash decision in anger, Julie."
"With time I'd change my mind?" Mum shouted, "Oh, you're completely wrong about that. Walter and I have become more and more happy with our decision as time passes. Things have gotten worse since we first made the decision, Mother. If we hadn't made it then, we'd have made it now. This is no place for us to live. I wish you'd understand that.
"You've never understood, though, have you? Sure, you've taken Amy on the full moons, and we really appreciate that, but you don't really understand. You have no idea what we've gone through, what we will go through. You have no idea how werewolves are seen in our world, no idea at all. I've tried to explain it to you and you just don't get it.
"You try and cover up your uneasiness with the whole thing, but I see through it, Mother. If there's one thing I've learned over the past two and a half years, it's when people are being sincere about what they say. You've told me it doesn't bother you, but it does. I know it does. I still remember your reaction when we first told you that Matt got bit. You cringed and raised your eyebrows. I've seen that look on your face before, Mother. It's what you do when you hear or read about people who are less well off than you, who get into trouble. People who need help, but no one will give it to them."
I stared in shock at Cinda. I kind of knew she didn't feel comfortable with Matt being a werewolf, but Mum had never told me what her reaction was when she found out. I couldn't believe my own grandmother, Matt's own grandmother, would react like that. I glanced slightly at Matt. I was pretty sure Mum hadn't told him Cinda's reaction either. He looked scared and was now completely hiding behind me. "What did you expect me to do, Julie?" Cinda exclaimed. "Be happy about it?"
"Of course not! I expected you to be a bit nervous at first, but to get used to it eventually! I understand that you're a Muggle and didn't even know about anything remotely magical until I was eleven, but I did not expect you to practically ignore your own grandson for something he can't control! If you'd just open your mind and try to let what I tell you sink in, you might understand the kind of situation we're in!"
"Fine," Cinda said shortly, "But I do not appreciate your attitude towards the party."
"I don't care. You knew we didn't want that party," Mum seethed, "And if you can't accept that, or the fact that we are moving, then maybe we ought to just leave."
Mum turned around, leaving Cinda with her mouth open but no words coming out. Mum motioned for us to follow her and we did wordlessly. We followed her down to the living room without talking at all. I could feel how tense she was as we Apparated back home. This wasn't good. She was so angry at Cinda. I had never seen her row with anyone like that before, especially not her own mother. |

Hmm, I haven't been on that site in forever, I think I posted one chapter of this one there. I'm going to post it here a couple chapters at a time, I think. Thanks for the comment, though ^_^ since you're the only person who has commented and everything.
Anywho. Next couple chapters:
---- Chapter 3
When it came around time to get to Hogwarts, Katalina and Lily headed into a different compartment to change into their school uniforms: black cloaks with a white, collared shirt, a tie with their house colors, and a grey skirt with their house colors on them around the end, in trimming. Lily was laughing about something when they re-entered their compartment.
"What's so funny?" James said as they walked in, and Katalina shot a glare worthy of a true Gaunt in his direction. "Just asking..."
"Nothing," she and Lily said at the same time; Lily was still laughing, but Katalina's voice had no humor in it. "Nothing at all happened," she said firmly.
"I think something happened," Sirius said to James.
"No," Lily said, still giggling a little. "Nothing."
"And it wasn't funny!" Katalina said angrily; she laughed harder again.
"Well, I don't see what's so funny about nothing..." James said.
"It's funny that she's capable of laughing that hard at anything," Sirius said.
"Which is how she's laughing at nothing, since she's not capable of laughing that hard at anything," Katalina reasoned. They looked at her blankly. "You'll figure it out later," she said.
"How much later?" Sirius said.
"Few years, maybe," she said, looking out the window, just in time to feel the train stop. "Are we here?" she asked. Lily managed to calm down.
"It wasn't that that I was laughing at," Lily said. "It was the pack of first years that was there when --"
"Nothing!" Katalina said loudly, in a frantic voice, over Lily. She remembered the pack of first year boys that had been walking past and Katalina had to do an engorgement charm on the top of her shirt to make it fit over her chest. Lily had put the curtains back up, thinking Katalina was done. They had stopped at the window to gape at her, and got a few seconds of black bra before Lily rolled the curtains back down, giggling. "And if you ever do that again, I won't be very happy..."
"Alright," she said. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize."
"Do what?" James and Sirius both asked at the same time, eagerly.
"Probably not what you're hoping it was," Katalina said.
James's face turned somewhat pink. Sirius looked out the window and chose not to respond in any way. Getting up, laughing, Katalina and Lily left together, Severus with them.
"I swear to God..." Katalina grumbled on the way to the carriages, “if you two don’t cut it out, I’m going to hex you both."
Lily was giggling again, and Severus was laughing too, now, as she had told him. The same group of first years walked past her as she, Severus, and Lily made their way to where they had to go. The first years gaped at her again. One poked another, pointed at Katalina, and whispered something. Lily had to grip the side of the carriage they were apparently taking to the school to keep from falling over with laughter. It was then that Katalina saw the school, gleaming in the distance.
"Is that Hogwarts?" she asked Severus, who had control of his voice at the time.
"Yeah."
It was a magnificent castle, and the lake they were crossing over in the carriages was like its moat.
"Wow..." she said, climbing into the carriage. "And it’s thestrals pulling these?" she asked.
"What?" Lily said, calming down. "There's not... anything there." She was out of breath.
"You can only see them if you've seen someone die," she said.
"Who'd you see die?" she asked curiously.
"Old muggle that lived in the village I lived in," she said. "Handing out church pamphlets... my dad was having a bad day... he happened to knock on our door that day... my dad doesn't like dealing with muggles on his bad days."
"He killed him?" she asked, getting in the carriage, as did Severus.
"Yeah..." she said. "Horrid, i'n'it?"
"Just a tad," Lily said, with a definite note of sarcasm in her voice.
The carriages were also designed to fit eight people; the other four caught up with them fast enough. Seeing them and remembering what happened, Lily couldn't help but laugh again.
"What the bloody hell is she laughing about?" Sirius demanded of the three of them. Lily only laughed harder, Severus started laughing, and Katalina's face turned red, matching her hair.
"So you told him and not us?" James said.
"No, Lily told him..."
"Who else knows?" Sirius asked.
"About every first year in the school, by now," Lily said through her laughter.
"Nooooo..." Katalina groaned, hiding her face, which turned from red to pale in under five seconds. "They're all going to be pointing... and staring... noooooo... Lily, I'm going to kill you, I swear it..."
Lily responded by laughing harder; her face was now red.
"What --"
"Ask one of the first years!" Katalina snapped at James.
"Alright, fine!" he said. He looked next to the cart, and a group of first year boys was walking by, pointing at her. James jumped off the carriage.
"What happened involving them and a group of first years?" James asked, pointing at Katalina and Lily. One of them beckoned him closer, and whispered whatever it was. "You're kidding," he said, laughing and looking up as well. "Thanks for that."
He got back up and sat in his seat in the carriage, which started moving then. "She definitely does have grounds to kill you," he said to Lily.
"What happened?" Sirius demanded.
"Apparently, Lily thought they were done changing before she was," he told Sirius. "She opened the curtains back up, and a few first years were standing there, who stopped to look in. She turned, saw that her shirt was still opened, and attempted to close the blinds as fast as she could while laughing that hard."
Apparently hearing the story again made it even funnier. Lily laughed harder, leaning over on Kat, who still hadn't taken her face out of her hands.
"I'm sorry, Kat," Lily said. "But the looks on their faces, that was priceless, and at least you had a bra on --"
"A halfway fecking transparent one..." she grumbled.
"What made you think she was done in the first place?" James said, joining the laughing.
"Ummm..."
"Shut up," Katalina warned her. "Embarrassing enough already..."
"It makes it look like I did it on purpose if I don’t..." Lily said, trying not to laugh now.
"Oh, alright..." she snapped, her voice still muffled.
"I didn't realize, she just about had her shirt buttoned when I walked over to the window, and it turns out it didn't fit right in... places... so she had to do an Engorgement charm on the top half of the shirt, and I didn't realize she was doing that when I opened the curtains back up."
She had to steadily increase her voice the entire time, as everyone but Katalina was laughing now.
"So they got a free show and none of us have?" Sirius said.
"Shut up," she said. "All of you, just shut up..." she finished, in more of a begging plea than a command.
"Oh, c'mon, it's funny," James said.
"No..." she said, shaking her head. "It isn't... they're all going to be ogling when I go in... all of them... stupid short people..." she added, quite seriously, but this made them all laugh even harder. "Please don't say anything to anyone who doesn't know..." she said. "Please?"
They agreed not to, even still laughing, except Sirius, who said he wouldn't agree until they got a free show, too. She threatened to tell everyone in the school that he had grown his hair out for the same reason he liked to wear dresses when he was alone (a complete lie, but good blackmail anyway) -- he agreed then.
After the sorting of first years and the feast in the Great Hall, they all headed off to their Common Rooms. As they'd all gotten there late, almost everyone went to bed. Katalina went into the girls' dormitory only to put her kitten, Alice, back in her cage to sleep for the night. She headed back down after, with her invisibility cloak. Sirius was still lying on the couch in front of the lit fireplace in main area of the common room.
"What's the password to get in again?" she asked.
"Flabbergroit," he said. "Where're you headed?" he added, sitting up.
"Just to sit out by the lake," she said. "I slept last night," she added. "I don't need to tonight."
"Same here, actually..." he said. "Or I'd be up in the boys dormitories... I was thinking about heading out myself... I wanted to talk to you, anyway." He held up an invisibility cloak. "James was half asleep when I asked to borrow it," he said. "Never would've said yeah otherwise."
"About what?" she asked suspiciously. "I swear if you leave me suspended by my ankle out there all night as revenge --"
"No," he said. "Just meet me there and we'll talk."
She shrugged and threw the cloak over herself. She walked down the seven flights of stairs that tended to like to change around; nonetheless, she made it to the bottom, the entry hall, and she headed out the double oak front doors, just barely opening them. She heard them close behind her; apparently he was right behind her. She rushed over to the edge of the lake and pulled off her cloak. A few moments later, as she was sitting down at the very edge of the lake, against a large, thick elm tree, he pulled his cloak off, already sitting against the same tree, easily with room for more than one person to sit against it.
"So?" she said quietly.
"I just really wanted to apologize for everything that went bad today," he said. "It's your first day here and you're already having trouble."
"Well thank you," she said. "Have any veritaserum on you?"
"Wha... no, why?"
"So I can prove you're just someone else using polyjuice potion."
He laughed a little. "I'm not," he said. "I really wanted to apologize for me and James trying to get information on your family out of you. I had no idea how bad it was, and I've felt horrible since I did. I'm in a fairly similar situation at home myself, except my mom didn't stop me going to Hogwarts. My dad's dead, but he wasn't any better than that old bat, and I don't like talking about them either."
"It's alright...” she said. “I wasn’t helping by being secretive. And James was asking more of the questions, anyway.”
“That’s because he kept beating me to them as I thought of them, honestly,” he said, with guilty grin.
“It’s alright,” she repeated, smiling kindly. “I know how secretive I can get; I even almost resisted the Parselmouth thing under Veritaserum... I really didn’t want to say that... but again, I don’t blame anyone but myself. And I guess I should say before people start spreading rumors...” she added with a sigh. “My surname is Gaunt. Yes, he’s my brother, and yes I despise him, I only helped him because I was pissed off at how you were talking to Lily, as she was the only person nice enough to talk to me.”
“No wonder you didn’t want to say what your surname was...” he said. “He claims relation to --”
“I know, Voldemort himself...” she said with a sigh. “I hope it’s not true...” she added. “Probably just him showing off, I know Al even if I do hate him, but it’s still weird... he was always up for sticking up with my dad in bullying me, and his theory is that Voldemort is the son of my great great aunt and a muggle she ran off with, who ran out on her while she was pregnant, and that the baby she had in an orphanage was him. She died an hour after his death, there’s no way to trace.... My dad calls the child a filthy halfbreed bastard with a muggleloving blood traitorous wretch for a mother. And my brother always agreed with him. Always, without fail, just to show me how much they despised me.” She smiled. “Maybe I’m lucky,” she said. “I would’ve been the same as them, had I ended up in Slytherin... in Gryffindor, I suffered, but I’m not them...”
“So...” Sirius said, looking at her. “He’d use the Cruciatus Curse on his own sister...?”
“He did at home,” she scoffed. “Why not here, if no one’s looking? It’s how I was punished for contradiction, I sometimes managed to escape under my invisibility cloak, nothing can penetrate it except for the Killing Curse. Usually, though, I was in the sitting room and the cloak was in my room. My dad, quite often, let my brother have the honors of the punishment. He’s afraid of me now, without his daddy to back him up. He’s afraid I’ll get revenge.”
“And you will?” Sirius asked, as though to make sure she would.
“Ahhh... I don’t know...” she said. “He’s my brother and all...”
“Who hates you.”
“But I don’t like to hate people...”
“It’s kind of mandatory in this case...”
“No, not if I don’t want to.”
“Alright, but I’m getting revenge for you,” he said, sitting up straighter, putting an arm over her shoulders, and looking down at her. “Justice will be served.”
She sat up straighter as well. “No, it won’t,” she said. “Don’t. You won’t be getting your ass in trouble for revenge that isn’t even for your sake.”
“And you won’t be commanding me. “And as for the first year incident on the train... I can honestly say I’ve never felt this much pity for anyone.”
“Shut up,” she said, laughing with him and elbowing him in the side. “I have one favor to ask.”
“What’s that?”
“Could you stop picking on Severus? It doesn't make any sense why you do, anyway, he doesn't seem bad for a Slytherin.”
He looked as though he were thinking for a moment. “No, definitely can't do that.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s fun.”
“It’s not right...”
“Life’s not right,” he said.
“I thought it wasn’t fair?” she said.
“That, too."
"Really! It's mean!"
"Are you really a parselmouth?" he asked, changing subjects quickly.
“I can’t prove it without there being a snake around...” she said. “And it’d just scare you off, anyway, it’s what it does to everyone.”
“It won’t,” he said. “I promise it won’t.”
“Well, there aren’t any snakes around.”
He pulled his wand out of his pocket. “Accio Snake,” he said, flicking it in no general direction. A small, green snake zoomed towards him. He caught it.
“Yeah there are,” he said. “Think if I put it down, you’d be able to tell it not to bite me?”
“I don’t know how well it’d listen...” she said, watching it squirm angrily.
“Oh, give it a shot; it’s only a garden snake.”
“Alright...” she said uncertainly.
He set it down, a few feet away, and moved back against the tree. It slithered quickly towards him, and she watched it. As it got in a striking position, she spoke to it, in what felt and sounded to her like normal English.
“Sssstop it,” she said. The snake, its tail curled and the rest of it sticking up, looked curiously over.
“You can sspeak to me?”
“Yes.”
“He woke me just to sssummon me here for nothing.”
“He was bored. Not his fault he wasn’t born with a larger brain...”
“I ssuppose that’s true, but nonethelessssss --”
“Bite him and I’ll break you like a twig.”
“Well said, girl. I like not being broken, I’ll leave.”
At that, it lay back down, turned, and slithered off. Sirius was gaping at her. After a long moment of silence, he spoke.
“That was brilliant,” he said finally. “I can’t believe that’s considered evil... well, yeah, sure, it sounds evil and all, but it’s still wicked.”
She smiled a little. “I’d give it up in a heartbeat if I could change things so I belonged to another family...”
“I can imagine...” he said. “It’s still considered quite evil, even if it isn’t really, it all depends how you use it.”
“Be nice if other people understood that...” she said with a sigh, looking back down at her feet.
She could feel his eyes, looking down at her. After a moment, he pulled her a little closer, so she was facing sideways a little. She put her head against his shoulder. At least he had an idea of how she had to feel, outcasted by her own family.
“They might not get it right now,” he said. “But they will,” he said. “One day when Voldemort’s finally gone, they’ll realize that it’s not what magic someone can do that matters, it’s whether they choose to use it for good or bad. Even if you are related to Voldemort, it doesn’t mean anything, you’re not like him just because of blood.”
“It’s not what you can do that makes you who you are,” she said. “I know. I’ve told myself that forever. I just don’t listen, I guess. I don’t understand it, personally. Any time I’m angry, I loose all sense of self control I may have had before, I act like a reckless fool. And it worsens with my age, I don’t want to end up killing some poor old muggle like my dad did...”
He pulled her a little closer with the arm he had around her shoulders. “You’ll be able to get a grip on it,” he said. “I’m the same way, how do you think your brother ended up dangling in midair in the middle of the hall?” She smiled a little, and he thought he heard a small laugh. “I’ll try to help you out, I’ve been working on it myself. He just pissed me off.”
“He does that,” she said. They both laughed a little, but stopped upon making eye contact. Her pulse quickened, as she stared into that reckless, handsome face, suddenly etched with both care and the same nervousness she was feeling. The tension was horrible -- she was afraid to keep looking into his blue eyes, but she didn’t want to look away. He spared her the trouble, as he cleared his throat a little and looked at his watch. He yawned. “It’s already two in the morning, our classes start tomorrow.”
“Detention...” she said.
“Yeah...”
“How bad is detention?” she asked.
“Depends who you have it with, Filch just takes us to our assigned people.”
“We should get back to the common room...” she said, a little awkwardly.
“Yeah...” he said. “We probably should...”
They both moved away from each other and stood with their cloaks. She put hers on, and he put his on. They headed for the castle. He was ahead of her, and he sat on the couch in the Gryffindor commonroom five minutes before she got there, time to reflect on what had happened.
She got there and pulled off her own cloak, reluctantly; she’d been debating whether or not to. She did, when she got into the common room. He was already heading towards the stairs, but he stopped when he saw her. She walked over to the wall separating the boys' and girls' dorms, where he was already standing.
"Well..." he said a little awkwardly. "Good night..."
"'Night..." she said.
Apparently wanting to show that they were still just friends after that one moment by the lake, he awkwardly wrapped his arms around her waist. She wrapped her own arms around his waist as well. They pulled apart at the same time, and they both headed upstairs.
She rushed upstairs, not willing to tell anyone anything. Luckily, everyone in the girls’ fourth year dormitory was fast asleep. She fell into her bed and thought of what it would have been like if he hadn’t nervously looked away...
Had he kept his eyes locked with hers….
Her heart beat faster with every passing second. It seemed as though their faces were slowly coming closer together. Her heart threatened to beat out of her chest until, finally, his lips touched hers; it completely stopped beating for a fleeting moment then, but shortly after began beating at the same quickened pace. It was just a soft brush of his lips against hers, but their lips came back together almost immediately in a slow, romantic kiss. He put his hand on one side of her face, leaving his other arm draped around her shoulders. Her hands found the collar of his shirt and gripped it tightly.
And, at that moment, she was being shaken awake by Lily.
------- Chapter 4
“We’re going to be late! Transfiguration!”
Lily was yelling and shaking Katalina’s arm. It was too early in the morning for Katalina to comprehend yelling.
“Gah...?” she said groggily.
“Classes!”
“Oh, shit!” she yelled, jumping out of bed. She changed quickly, pointed her wand at her hair, making it smooth and shiny, as it had been before she fell asleep, as it had been last night while she was with him...
She grabbed her books and ran, up the hall, with Lily. The tardy bell rang.
“No...” Lily said. “We’re dead...”
“Why?” Katalina asked. “We’re only going to be a few minutes late.”
“What’s this, I wonder?” said a high pitched, cackling voice. “Two girlies late for their first lesson of the entire year?”
A halfway see-through man in a funny, checkered purple and yellow suit with a large, black bowtie and a flower pinned to the right side of his chest, appeared before them, floating upside down.
“Peeves,” Lily said. “School poltergeist. Get out of the way, McGonagall’s going to kill us as it is!”
“Oooh, and McGonagall teaching... two of her own students!” Peeves tsked at them. “Really, really, the student body keeps getting more and more careless...”
“Peeves,” Katalina said kindly. “Won’t you please let us through?”
“And why should I?” he asked. “When I could just as easily tell Filch and have the fun of watching two poor little girlies get detention?”
“Because I know how I can get you in trouble, Peeves,” she said. “Had any interesting conversations with the Bloody Baron lately?” She made a mental note to remember to thank Lily later on for telling her about the school ghosts durring the sorting ceremony.
He looked at her with wide eyes. “Alright...” he said, grumbling. “Go...”
“Thank you, Peevesie, you’re such a nice ghoulie,” she said, imitating Peeves's high-pitched, intimidating voice quite well. As they walked swiftly away, Katalina looked over her shoulder and waved. Peeves made a rude hand gesture at her and floated off.
They made it to their first class of the day fifteen minutes late. There were a few glances back at them as they entered the Transfiguration classroom as well as a few sniggers. There was even a snore; Sirius had fallen asleep at the table he and James were seated at in the back, using his open Transfiguration book as a pillow.
“Thank God, she’s not here right now...” Katalina sighed with relief as she and Lily walked to the front of the classroom, where there was an empty desk that seated two. “I thought we were dead...”
The cat sitting on the desk with spectacle markings looked over at them as they sat. It jumped off the desk and, as it did so, transformed into a stern woman in black robes with square glasses. Katalina gulped, and her eyes were as wide as they had been on the train when McGonagall had come frantically into their compartment asking who produced the Patronus Charm.
"G-good morning, professor," Katalina said nervously. "Didn't... didn't see you there..."
"Late for your first class at Hogwarts, Miss –" Katalina nodded gravely, indicated McGonagall to use her name by birth. "– Gaunt. And Lily, I'm quite surprised, you've never been late for my class once in the past."
"We would have been on time, Professor," she said. "Peeves wouldn't let us through; we were close enough to get here just on time."
"I-I-I didn't get to sleep until six o' clock in the morning, Lily couldn't wake me up, she stayed behind to try to help me," Katalina lied. "It's my own fault, if anyone gets a detention it should be Peeves."
Professor McGonagall looked a bit confused by the sudden change of course of her entire confession and apology. The class sniggered.
"Miss Gaunt, I wasn't going to give you a detention, but –"
"Sorry," she said immediately. "I couldn't resist."
"I believe ten points from Gryffindor will do fine, as will a double detention tonight will do fine, since you already had one set for tonight for the scene you and Mr. Black made on the Hogwarts Express."
At hearing his name, Sirius quickly sat up straight in the back, and said, quite loudly, "I'm awake!"
"I somehow doubt that," Professor McGonagall said disapprovingly. "And that's the third time this morning."
"I didn't sleep last night and –"
"You'll be doing double detention tonight as well."
"Who else is?" he asked curiously.
"Well, you were awake, Mr. Black," she said. "You should know, shouldn't you?"
He grumbled in agreement.
“In this class today, we're practicing Vanishing Spells," she said. "Look in the indexes of your textbooks, Misses Gaunt and Evans, to find the page numbers for Vanishing Spells. Read them, then attempt to -"
"– make the swallows sitting on our desks disappear?" Katalina asked curiously, having just done so in a silent spell. Professor McGonagall looked astounded. "And, as you can see –" She put her hand through the spot the swallow had been. "– it certainly wasn't Disillusionment, was it?"
"All right…" she said. "Yes, that is the correct. Now...” McGonagall conjured another swallow onto Katalina's desk. “With the enchantment, if you don’t mind."
"Evanesco," she said, flicking her wand at the bird; it promptly vanished. Lily made hers do so as well, with the incantation, at the same time. Professor McGonagall looked from one to the other, who both looked back, smiling.
"Alright,” McGonagall said. “Ten points to Gryffindor. Awarded to each of you."
"I think mine's a shade lighter..." Sirius muttered to James in the back; Sirius hadn't managed to make his bird disappear, but he had managed to change it from black to pink.
"I think your screwy spell’s trying to tell us something." James laughed, looking at the pink swallow in amusement. Sirius elbowed James out of his chair.
"Is there a problem back there?" McGonagall asked James, who was just getting back in his seat.
"No, ma'am," he said, rubbing his side where he’d been elbowed. "Except I think Sirius's spell just tried to show his feminine side."
Now everyone was looking back and laughing at the pink swallow, including Sirius himself.
"That is a good first attempt, however," said Professor McGonagall, walking to the back of the classroom to their desk to examine the bird. "Especially considering all you heard was the incantation before everything else was drowned out by snoring, Mr. Black."
"I'm going through the change early, ma'am" he said. "Hot flashes make me tired."
The sniggering around the classroom grew a little louder. Professor McGonagall shook her head and walked away from Sirius and James's desk. James was getting back up off the floor again, as he'd just fallen out of his chair laughing.
The next person to get it was Remus Lupin, followed by Peter Pettigrew, who Katalina was sure hadn't actually done the spell himself; he was rather unskilled with magic as it were, and Remus was sitting right next to him. Sirius managed to make his swallow slightly see-though, though still pink, and was begging to be allowed to keep it at the end of class.
"Oh, fine," Professor McGonagall said, annoyed with him. "Keep it. And practice!"
"But I already named him..." he said solemnly, putting on his act quite strong for the rest of the class's enjoyment. He patted the bird on the head with his finger. "Isn't that right, Pinky?"
"Then practice on something else before I have to give you triple detention!" she yelled at him. He sank back in his seat sheepishly and slid under the desk. A moment later, he elbowed James in the knee.
"What?" James said.
"Is it safe yet?" he asked in a loud whisper.
"No," James said in an equally loud whisper. "But don't worry, I don't think she knows where you're hiding."
It wasn’t too much longer in the class before the bell rang. It was double Potions with the Slytherins next. The class headed down to the dungeons, where both the Potions classroom and the Slytherin Common Room were, apparently. They all gradually stopped at a door where a group of Slytherins were already gathered, Severus among them.
"Are you still hanging out with that mudblood, Sev?" one of the Slytherins asked loudly as Katalina and Lily approached the door. "You know, that Evans girl that's in Gryffindor? And the blood traitor she's friends with, Gaunt? Her brother's a prefect for Slytherin, the things he's told us about her –"
"Yes, I am," he said to the other Slytherin. "Now shut up, Avery."
"I can't believe you're friends with a mudblood and traitorous filth," said one of the other Slytherins. "The Dark Lord wouldn't like that."
"Who said I was going over to him?" Sev demanded. Katalina and Lily were just stopping by the crowd of Gryffindors on the opposite side of the dungeon corridor near the door.
"What, you're not going to be a Death Eater?" Avery asked.
"I never said I would be!"
"But hanging with mudbloods and – hey, stop it, you bitch!"
Katalina had just lunged forward and pinned Avery against the wall. She punched him in the face so it hit his nose; the impact of the hit was hard enough to make his head hit the stone wall behind him. He, to his amazement as much as anyone else’s, hadn’t been knocked out by the blow.
"I can only hear the word Mudblood so many times in one minute without having to punch the person who's said it," she said through gritted teeth. "Guess my brother didn't tell you that."
She let go of him, pushing him into the wall again. Sev, with a glare at the two Slytherins he'd been talking to, joined Lily. Katalina stood off to the side of them a little; she didn’t much feel like being confronted about her loss of temper. When the teacher, Slughorn, arrived, she was the first to rush through the door. She took a seat close to the front of the class. Lily sat next to her and Sev sat with them when he made it inside. Naturally, Sirius, James, Remus, and Peter were sitting behind them. Sirius and James had apparently decided it would be fun to attempt throwing small bits of parchment into Katalina and Lily’s hair. Katalina realized what they were doing instantly and turned her chair around, glaring. She picked a small piece paper out of her hair. She pulled out her wand and set it on fire in her hand.
"If you ever throw anything in my hair again," she said coldly, "then remember, this'll be your head." She held up the ashes in her hand that had been parchment, and let them fall out of her hand like snow. She smiled and the blank expressions on their faces and turned back around.
Katalina pulled out her potions book and looked through it; she had already made various notes on its different pages, from when she'd bought extra supplies at the apothecary in Diagon Alley so she could practice potions before she went to school. Inside the classroom, there were various large cauldrons, all full of different potions. Katalina recognized all of them; one was Draught of Living Death. Another was the most powerful love potion possible to make. Another was Felix Felecis. Another, as it was colorless and scentless, had to be Veritaserum. The last one, oozing and bubbling, was most definitely Polyjuice Potion.
When the bell rang, Slughorn rushed to the front of the class.
"Hello, everyone!" he said brightly, beaming around at his class. "Now before we get started today, I would like to check and see how much you remembered about identifying potions over the summer, if all of it hasn't slipped your minds. I'm sure you see all these potions around the room?" There were mumbles of agreement. "I want at least one of you to be able to identify at least one of them. Now." He indicated the purple potion with light pink smoke wafting from it. It was emitting a mixed smell of roses and chocolate… or it was to Katalina, anyway. "Can anyone tell me what this one is?"
Katalina's hand shot up faster than anyone else's. Potions were the one thing her father had taught her during her homeschooling, so, naturally, it was one of her best subjects.
"Miss Gaunt," he said as enthusiastically as she had raised her hand. "Yes?"
"It's a Love Potion," she said. "While it is called a Love Potion, and it is the most powerful type of Love Potion, it does not create love, but more of an obsession. It is identifiable by its lilac color, pink fumes, and its scent, which is different to everyone."
"Very well said, very well said! Ten points to Gryffindor. It's disappointing your brother doesn't do as well in the art of potions."
"It's more disappointing to me that we're related," she said brightly. All the Gryffindors in the class laughed.
"Now, now, that's enough," Slughorn said, as the class gradually quieted. "And how about this one? Miss Evans."
He was indicating a pale blue potion, with fumes that seemed to be putting the Slytherin student Avery and his group of friends to sleep.
"That's Draught of Living Death, or just Draught of Death. It puts anyone who drinks it into such a deep sleep that they appear to be dead because they cannot be awoken; their heart can even stop under the influence of the potion, though it starts again after its effects wear off. It's easily recognized from its pale blue color and watery consistency, and its invisible fumes that make anyone near it drowsy." Everyone looked over at the Slytherins; Avery had started to snore loudly.
"Very good, Miss Evans, very in depth, as always," he beamed. "Now, this one?"
He indicated a silvery potion that was bubbling to the point that the bubbles appeared to be almost happy, and it was emitting thin, silver, streaky fumes. Remus raised his hand for this one from behind them.
"Mr. Lupin, isn’t it? Go ahead."
"Felix Felecis," he said. "Its color is silvery, as are the scentless fumes it emits, which is common in many potions, but this is recognizable by its bubbling and thin consistency. Its effect is luck; it can make the drinker lucky for weeks, depending on the amount consumed. A small vial of it can work for a whole day."
"Very good, Mr. Lupin. And now, how about this one?" He indicated a muddy looking, bubbling potion. Severus raised his hand. "Severus, finally someone from my own house," he said, again beaming.
"That is Polyjuice Potion," he said. "Its consistency is much like that of mud, and its color before its last ingredient is added is a pale grey. It can transform its drinker into another entirely different person for an hour, but only another person, since animal transformations do not work and are dangerous, as well as the fact that they can be permanent if not treated in time. It only can transform its drinker if the drinker has DNA from the person they wish to change into, such as a few pieces of hair; the last ingredient. Its color after the DNA is added depends on the person, it can turn any color imaginable, and each and every person's potion has its own distinctive color."
"Very good, very thorough, ten points to Slytherin. And now, here is the trickiest one." He stepped over to the cauldron of clear potion, and no one seemed to know what it was. "This is a bonus," he added. "We didn't learn about this, but if you've read ahead in your course books, you might know what it is."
After a moment, Katalina raised her hand.
"Miss Gaunt, again."
"Veritaserum," she said. "It's colorless, scentless, and tasteless, with the consistency of water, and can easily be mistaken as such. This makes it easier for its true purpose; if you slip this into someone's pumpkin juice, they won't see it or taste it, but they will feel the effects: Veritaserum makes its drinker tell the full truth about anything asked of them. You-Know-Who himself would spill his darkest secrets if it was given to him. A small vial of it can work for over an hour, depending on the ratio of amount of potion to the drinker's weight – but lets not get into math here, the Draught over there is putting us to sleep enough already, I believe." The Gryffindors sniggered as Avery snored loudly again. His friend nudged him and he sprung awake. "Also, Veritaserum is banned for use in this school on any student under almost all circumstances."
"Very good, I see someone's been reading their course books," he said brightly. "Ten more points to Gryffindor.
"Now, for today's lesson, we'll be brewing up our very own Draught of Living Death," he said. "The best attempt will be awarded a small vial of liquid luck, Felix Felecis," he said. "Enough to last for twenty-four hours. Make it known, to any Quidditch players, it is not permitted for use in sporting events by the law."
Excited whispers echoed around the classroom from almost everyone. Katalina, however, spared no time. She got out her potions kit as she flipped to the page on Draught of Living Death, which she'd already made notes on. When it became time to start, she took out her cauldron and commenced with making her own Draught and finished it before the time was even up – she had practiced her course book for potions so much she'd found shortcuts that actually made the potion better than the official directions. Apparently Sev had done the same thing, as he finished barely a minute later. After about five minutes, they heard someone behind them laugh triumphantly.
"I think he did it," James said to Sirius, looking into Remus's cauldron. "Awesome!"
Katalina looked back into it as well. "So how far've you gotten?" she asked, looking into James’s cauldron – a blob of what looked like burned licorice was sitting at the bottom. She couldn't help but laugh a bit.
"You're just pissed because you can't do it," James said.
"I finished mine five minutes ago," she said with a laugh. "And mine's way better than that blob in the bottom of yours."
"Shut up..." he grumbled. She laughed and turned back around as Lily was finishing hers. Katalina looked into her cauldron.
"Nice," she said. She yawned. "God, of all the potions to make... and we've got History of Magic next, don't we?"
"I think s-s-s-sooo," Lily managed through a yawn.
"Lord... I'm not going to be able to stay awake... I might need that Felix Felecis just to be lucky enough to keep my eyes open."
Five minutes later, the time was up; Katalina, Lily, Sev, and Remus, who had all made perfect potions, each got a small vial of Felix Felecis, and were asked to stay after class for a minute.
"Why?" Katalina asked Lily as they packed their things.
"Probably because of how well we did in class," she said. "Slughorn likes having connections with people, and he has a knack for spotting people who'll do well later in life. He's formed a club within Hogwarts called the Slug Club for his more exceptional students; we're probably finding out when the first party is."
"Party?" she asked, quite intrigued. "I like parties. Alcohol?"
"Probably so with the really big parties, but nothing we can't have underage."
"That figures. I'll have to sneak some in."
"Oh God, you sound like Sirius and James now," she said, laughing.
"No, they sound like me," she said. "There’s a difference there."
They headed up to his desk in the front, still laughing. Slughorn beamed at them from his chair.
"I believe Severus and Lily know about this already, but I believe neither of you do?" He addressed Remus and Katalina. Remus shook his head no.
"The Slug Club?" Katalina suggested. "Lily was just telling me."
"Ah, yes," he said. "Yes. It's a club for my more exceptional students; we occasionally have small parties and get-togethers, usually on Saturdays, and generally a huge party on the day before Christmas holidays. It's your choice whether you want to be in it or not, but the first get together is this Saturday at the time of supper in the Great Hall."
They left with passes for their next classes explaining why they were so late. Professor Binns, their History of Magic teacher, was a ghost as it turned out. He'd died at the school when he was taking a nap and his study caught fire. He went back to teach classes after his nap, stepping right out of his body without even realizing it. His tone was generally melancholy, and boring enough to put anyone to sleep. The class droned by; the most interesting thing that happened was when Professor Binns caught Sirius and James at the back of the class passing notes that read "See other side" on both sides of the parchment – apparently, this happened quite often in that class as there was absolutely nothing else to do. Katalina simply tuned out Binns’s talking and read her book at her own pace.
After that class was her Divination class; she and Lily split up, as Lily headed off to Arithmancy. To Katalina’s dread, she realized she had Divination with James and Sirius, and the tables, with crystal balls in the middle, were made for three people to sit at. She cast a bit of a glare at them as they sat at her table.
"I think she wants us to move," Sirius said.
"Yeah, I think she just tried to do some kind of Basilisk thing with that glare," James agreed.
"No," she said. "But if you bug me, I won't resist throwing the crystal ball at your head."
James looked at the crystal ball. "I definitely foresee quite a bit of pain in our futures, then, mate," he said to Sirius.
He looked at it as well with his head tilted to the side a little. "I see that my world is going to be turned upside down."
"What?" James said, and then looked at the reversed, upside down reflection of the classroom in the crystal. "Holy shit, I see it too…"
The bell rang. Their teacher walked in – she certainly was an odd looking woman. Her hair was huge, frizzy, and blonde, but graying in places. She wore large, circular, black, thick-rimed glasses that magnified her eyes several times their normal size. She wore a head shawl and even more shawls draped over her shoulders, and a green, button up shirt over a darker green dress. She also wore several necklaces, bangle bracelets, and rings on all her fingers.
"Good day, class," she said in a dreamy, out-there sort of voice. "Though today is not the day we worry about – as you all know, the noble art of Divination teaches you to look beyond the boundaries of the present and into the future, through the stars, through your own eyes. Today, we'll be working with crystal balls, a subject that we just barely touched on last year."
Katalina was boredly flipping through her Divination book, as she listened to the speech about true Seers and prophets and so on and so forth. She found a page on different depictions that one might see in their crystal ball, and read through them, so she was ready when it was finally time to attempt to see something in the foggy, swirling, circular crystal.
"Open your minds!" the teacher, Trelawney, kept telling them. "Allow your Inner Eye to see beyond the mundane!" Sirius raised his hand. "Yes, Mr. Black?"
"How do we see with our Inner Eye if it's not on the outside where it can see, Professor?" he asked sarcastically.
"Broaden your mind," she said. "All the answers you seek, you already have, you just aren't aware of them yet!"
Katalina boredly gazed into the crystal ball, her mind miles away. She hadn't broadened it, she'd just decided to take it on a trip. However, nonetheless, she snapped back when she was sure she saw something within the crystal. When she jumped, Trelawney was walking past. She quickly came back and kneeled down next to Katalina's chair, her already wide eyes widening even more.
"Dear girl – what is it you have seen?"
"I – I – I-I-I don't know yet," she stammered in surprise. "It looked like a face. I was barely even paying attention to the crystal, I was miles away," she admitted. "But I saw it, snapped back and it was gone."
"You understand what you've done?" Trelawney asked.
"N-not really..." Katalina said uncertainly.
"Your Inner-Eye reflected what it has Seen within your own mind into the depths of the crystal for you to see! When you allow your mind to wander, you allow your Inner Eye to see where it has gone. It could be seeing something in your past that's passed so long ago that you didn't even know you still remembered it, or even something to happen in the future!"
"Oh..." she said, trying to comprehend this. "Alright."
"So you're saying," James said, "that all I had to do to pass this class last year is go into daydreams every time I sat down? What a rip off! Why couldn't you have just told me that?"
Katalina was back to the crystal again. This time, when she saw two figures, she didn't snap out of her daydream, but used her peripheral vision to distinguish the scene’s features. Once she'd done this, it was like the crystal turned into a television screen. She saw two people, and she clearly recognized one of them as her father. The other was a man about her father's age, maybe older. They were speaking indistinct words, but the scene was clear enough. She saw her father kneeling down as though worshipping the other man in billowing black robes.
After what felt like hours of watching them speak indistinct, faint words, she finally heard her father's voice.
"I didn't mean to!" It yelled. "She left on her own, I never would have –"
Katalina was jerked out of the vision when she heard someone snore. Sirius appeared to have fallen asleep after doing the daydream idea that James had, and James was turning red, clearly straining to try to see anything other than clouds in the crystal ball. The bell rang about ten seconds later. Sirius almost fell out of his seat in surprise, and James let out the breath he’d been holding, shooting the crystal in front of him a glare. Katalina packed her bag quickly and headed downstairs to the Great Hall for lunch. -----------------
Side notes: Trelaney isn't Sybill Trelawney from the books. It was mentioned that her grandmother had a gift for Divination - that would be who this is. She seems like a quack, but she's not so much as her granddaughter - she's going to be important later.
I'll post the next chapters in a bit. |

Full Title: Staying strong for all my family and friends!
Summary: This story takes place during Harry, Ron, Hermione along with Bethany (I made up) Sixth year at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and Wizards. Bethany is balance going to school, Being a slayer and raise her and Fred Weasley daughter Lily-May Eileen Weasley and son James Sirius Weasley. Why she is at school and take care of the babies Fred and his twin Brother George are running Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes joke shop at number ninety Three-Diagon Alley.
Disclaimer: I do not owner Harry potter characters, there are own by J.K. Rowling, I did make up Bethany and her parents. I also made up The Tonks next door neighbor Mr. and Mrs. Smith’s and their daughters’ Terri. I also made up Luikin wand shop and owner Mrs. And Mr. Luikin. I made up two stores in Knockturn Alley so far there names are Rocks Dark arts creatures store and David’s Dangerous Dark Art Potions shop. Chapter one: Reaching out to Draco Malfoy It is August 3, 1996 at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes joke shop and the store is packed full of past, currently and future Hogwarts students, so Fred and George are busy helping customers out, Meanwhile Bethany is upstairs in the apartment above the store getting her and Fred two month old (born May 1, 1996) daughter and son Lily-May and James Sirius dress. She can hear the voices of all the customers yelling to eachother downstairs in the stores. She has finish changing James diaper and is takes off his yellow robe. She has just reaches for his orange light weight long sleeve onies t-shirt that has a seahorse on it, when she hears a knock on the apartment door and then the door opening. She looks up to see her cousin Tonks, Remus Lupin, Ginny, Hermione, Harry, Ron, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley standing in the open doorway. Bethany takes a good look at the eight people standing by the door and she notices that Tonks hair is still a mouse brown color instead of the normal purple, which means that she and Lupin are still not seeing eye to eye.
Remus Lupin: You should keep the door locked! Tonks: Give her a break, besides Bethany know that the two of us were coming over. Remus Lupin: But with he who must not be named back she needs to be careful. Mr. Weasley: And I am sure she will for now on. Bethany: I could hear you coming and Fred’s forget to lock the door on his way out. Mrs. Weasley: We come in through the door at the back of the building because Ginny, Hermione, Harry and Ron wanting to stop in and see Lily-May and James Sirius before going into the joke shop. Ginny: Mom we wanting to go to the shop first, but you want to come up here first and see you grandchildren! Ron: Yeah, don’t blame us! Hermione: Lilly-May and James Sirius has getting so big since the last time I sew them before going home for the summer. Bethany: I know James Sirius wight seven and half lbs now and Lilly-May weights eight and half lbs. Ron: And look Bethany even get back into her pre-pregnancy clothing. Mrs. Weasley: Ron that the wrong way to say it, you should have say Bethany you look great and I notice you lost the baby weight, which you did Bethany. Bethany: Thanks Mr. Weasley: Is that a muggle double stroller over by the chair Bethany? Bethany: Yes.
Mr. Weasley runs over to the double stroller and starts to look it over, as Hermione, Ginny and Harry walk over to Bethany and the babies and the three of them seat down on the floor around the babies and Bethany. Ginny, Hermione has taken over getting Lily-May dress. Ginny pulls in her pink shirt over Lily -May head and the little girl laughs . Hermione then pulls Lily Skirt that is pink, green and white with pink and green polka dot skirt on. Once the skirt is on her niece Ginny puts on Lily socks which are pink, white and green shock that has pink, orange and red flowers on them. Harry turns James Sirius towards him and then button up his long sleeve onies t-shirts. Harry then picks up the tan pants and puts them on James Sirius . Harry then puts James Sirius tan and orange booties on his feet and then Ron pick James Sirius up off the floor and is now holding his nephew. Tonks walk over to the couch and set down, why Remus Lupin stays standing and walking around the room. Mrs. Weasley stands by the door till the babies are dress then goes over and set down next to Ginny. Just in time for Lily-May to need a diaper change.
Ron: What is that smell, that come from by Hermione, Ginny and mom? Mr. Weasley: I believe that Lily-May has bowel movement Ron! Mrs. Weasley: Mind if I change her diaper Bethany? Bethany: No, you can change her diaper.
Mrs. Weasley take off Lily-May Skirt then takes the dirty diaper off and clean Lily-May up, she then puts a clean diaper on her and Ginny outs her niece skirt back on. After a few minutes of playing with the babies all four Weasley’s, along with Harry and Hermione leave the apartment and heads down to the joke shop. As Ron is walking out of the apartment, he hands James Sirius to Remus Lupin and Harry heads Lilly-May to Tonks, who still setting on the couch and Remus Lupin is walking around the room with James to claim him down because he has starts to cry as soon as Ron stop holding him. Bethany walk passes the stroller and over to the door for her and Fred room which on the wall that the couch is up against and the door is just after the Antique chair that the strollers up against. Bethany walks into the room and grabs the diaper bag. She walks out of the room and starts to pack up the diaper bag with a couple changes of clothing for both babies. She also puts diaper and baby wipes.
Remus Lupin: I see you still plan on taken James Sirius and Lilly-May with you to Borgin and Burkes to talk with Draco! Tonks: You don’t have to taken them we could watch them for you Beth. Bethany: I know, but I thought it might help to soften Draco up some, if the smallest members of the family are with me. Tonks: But aren’t you worry about what other witches and Wizards are going to thinks about you going into Knockturn Alley with them and for they safe once there? Bethany: I going to be careful, so not too many people see us and no one will touch them because they know I beat them up if they lay a hand on either one of my babies. Remus Lupin: At lest let me or Tonks come with you! Bethany: No, the two of you need to talk, so stay here in the apartment since no one going to be empty for a couple hours and talk to eachother. Remus Lupin: It will not solve anything, Bethany! Bethany: Tonks love you Lupin and I know that you love for Tonks too. Remus Lupin: You need to get going. Bethany: Not to you and my cousin agree to talk to eachother, Let Tonks no what you worry about and let Tonks share her feeling with you Lupin. Remus Lupin: Fine, but for now on you stay out of my personal life Bethany, I am your watcher and ex -teacher! Bethany: Fine, I have to grab some baby items out of the kitchen. Bethany then walks past the love seat and into the kitchen with the diaper bag and walks over to the shelves on that on the wall to the right as you enter the kitchen. Tonks carrying Lily-May and Lupin carrying James Sirius fellow Bethany into the kitchen where Bethany takes three twenty-oz bottles of water of the top shelf and puts them into the diaper bag. Bethany then puts baby Formula into each of the six bottles and puts the nipples onto the bottles. Then Lupin puts on the screw ring to hold the nipples in places, as he finishes screwing on ring Tonks puts the cup on the bottle. After all six bottles are ready Bethany puts them into the diaper bag.
Remus Lupin: Bethany are you going to go and get your school supplies why you are out? Bethany: Yeah Remus Lupin: Ok, I will be here when you get back, that way you can tell me how it went with Draco. Bethany: Ok
The three of them head into the living room and Remus Lupin walks over to the double stroller and lays James Sirius down in the seat on the side closed to the front of the Antique chair. Tonks also walk over to the strollers and lays Lilly-May into the seat closes to the back of the Antique chair. Bethany takes hold of the foot rest and pulls the strollers forward some then get behind the stroller and pushes it towards the door. Tonks walk beside Bethany and close the apartment door once she is out of the apartment. Bethany reaches into the front pocket of the diaper bag and pulls out her one of her wand, the one she pulls out is the purple shade and it is made of Willow, it is 15 1/2 in long and has an Ashwinder Ash core, which is good for protection spells. Bethany moves her wand and she case mobilarbus (move items) on the stroller to get it down the staircase. Once at the base of the staircase, she opens the door that leads into back room of the shop. She pushes the stroller into the room and Fred walks over to Bethany and hugs her.
Fred: It is a bit nippy outsides I would put Lily-May white sweater with the pink rose on before head out and the blanket over them. Bethany: Thanks for letting me know.
Bethany takes the sweater out of the diaper bag, as Fred takes Lily-May out of the stroller. Bethany unbutton the sweater and puts Lily-May right arm through first and then her left arm into the sleeve. She then button the sweater up and Fred puts his daughter back into the stroller. Bethany then covers the babies up with a white blanket with strawberry on it from the shoulders down. Bethany then grabs her weight light brownish black jacket that has the flower on the left shoulder off of the coat rack that in the back room. She puts the jacket on and zips it up. She then steps behind the double stroller and takes the handler. Bethany then starts to pushes her son and daughter out of the back room and into the front of the store. Fred walks ahead of her and opens the door. When Bethany pushes the stroller into the main floor of the stores all the customers move towards the walls so Bethany and the babies can get through. As she pushes the stroller out of the store door, which across from Magical Menagerie and a young girl that has blonde hair and blue eyes come run up to her and the girls mother who has long blonde hair and hazel eyes walk up to Bethany and she taps Bethany on the shoulder, at the sometime the girl father who also has blonde hair and blue eyes walk up to Bethany.
Bethany: Mrs. Smith? Mrs. Smith: Yeah, can you tell me where I can buy Terri her first wand because Ollivander's is closed. Bethany: Sure I can show you, if you like me too? Terri: That would be nice.
Bethany turn right and leads Terri and Mrs and Mr Smith past a little tea shop, the ice cream parlor. She then stops and turns into the only other wands shop, which called Luikin which is in between Florean Fortescues’s and Magical Instruments. Mrs. Luikin walks up to the counter at the sometime Terri walks up to the counter.
Bethany: Mrs. Luikin, take good care of Terri and her parents they are my aunt and uncle neighbors. Mrs. Luikin: I will. Bethany: I have to go now, but I will see you at Hogwarts. Terri: Ok
Bethany turns herself and the stroller around and pushes the stroller out of the store door. Bethany turns left and heads towards Knockturn Alley. When she gets to the entrance of the alley, she looks around to make sure no one look then pushes the stroller into Knockturn Alley. Bethany pushes the stroller pasts the giant spider, shrunken heads stores and turns into Borgin and Burkes which is across from shrunken head shop.
Mr. Borgin: Hello Miss. Tonks your watcher tell me you were coming if you go behind the large shelve unit that the curse mama hands, skulls and other large items are on Draco Malfoy will not know you are here. Bethany: Thanks. Mr. Borgin: By the way your son and daughter are very cute. Bethany: Thanks
Bethany pushes the stroller behind the shelved unit that Mr. Borgin told her about and was relived that she could see the door from there so she will be able to see Draco enter the store and she is also close enough to the sale counter to see Draco talk to Mr. Borgin and hear them talk. Bethany takes out a bottle of water from the diaper book and two of the baby bottles, she unscrews the bottles top and pours water into each bottle. She recaps the bottles and shakes them up. She has just give James Sirius and Lily-May their bottle when Draco walks through the store door. Bethany notices that he is wearing all black and that he does not look happy. Draco walks over to the sales counter and Mr. Borgin walk up to the counter, Draco pulls up the left sleeve of his dress jacket and shows Mr. Borgin the dark mark on his left forearm. Bethany then listen close to the conversation between Mr. Borgin see Draco points to the Vanishing cabinet and then ask Mr. Borgin is he know what to fix it, because he need to fixes the one at Hogwarts on, He who must not be name orders, so the death eater can enter Hogwarts. Mr. Borgin tells Draco he does not know if the one at Hogwarts can be fixed at all, but the one his owner will work if he does get the Hogwarts one fixes. Draco then points to the opal necklace in the display case under the counter and hands him an address to sent the necklace to and then he pays for it. Draco then turns around and starts walks to the door of the store, Bethany takes hold of the stroller handler and start following Draco out. Draco knows that Bethany and her son and daughter is following her but turns right out of the stores and keeps walking, when he gets near the entrance way of Knockturn alley and notices they are alone he stop walking and looks at Lily-May, James Sirius and then Bethany as he rubbing the spots on his left forearm where the dark mark has only been branded on a few days earlier . Bethany can see that he is scary and know he is afraid of what will happen if, He who must not be name finds out that we have talk to eachother and that Bethany also over heard him in Borgin and Burkes.
Draco: How did you know I was going to be at Borgin and Burkes today and on, he who must not be named orders Bethany Tonks and can he who must not be named read your mind? Bethany: No, He who must not be named can’t read my mind, because I practice Occlumency to keep him out of my thoughts and I know you were going to be there because of my slayer dreams. Draco: He will kill me and my family if he finds out I talk to you about this and that you over hear me in Borgin and Burkes today. Bethany: Haven’t your Mom, dad or Snape teach you how to do Occlumency? Draco: Yeah, My mom had Snape taught me, I just do not know if I am good enough to keep, He who must not be named out of my thoughts? Bethany: Have faith in yourself Draco you are a very talent wizard and very smart too. Draco: Why are you been so nice to me, is it because you feel sorry for me? Draco: By how can Dumbledore help by dad with him locked up in Azkaban? Bethany: He would find a way to get him out and to safety Draco. Lily-May and James: (Loudly) Fussing
Bethany and Draco turn to so they are looking at Lily-May and James and they Narcissa Malfoy (Draco Mom) and Bellatrix Lestrange walking up behind Lily-May and James Sirius Double stroller. Both Draco and Bethany are shock to see that Bellatrix Lestrange has her wand out and it point straight ahead. Narcissa Malfoy looks down at Bethany’s baby girl and baby boy and then looks over at her son. Bellatrix looks at her sister, then at the babies. Then to Narcissa, Draco and Bethany surprise Bellatrix points her wand towards the baby stroller.
Draco: (Yell) Bellatrix put your wand down Lily-May Eileen and James Sirius Weasley is only two months old and is not a threat to, He who must not be named. Narcissa” (Touch her sister shoulder) Put your wand away, we do not want to start a scene here and it would not make, He who must not me name happy if you are killed! Bellatrix: And what are you doing in Knockturn Alley anywhere Bethany Tonks? Bethany: Slayer business, Dracula has been spots in town so I am here to going into David Dangerous Dark Art Potions shop to buy some Killer of the Dead. Bellatrix: Cool, I love to meet him, but thinking about you fight him and wining makes me want to laugh, But Draco why were you talking to Bethany? Draco: I just run into her as I was leaving Mom and Bellatrix. Narcissa: See there is nothing to worry about let go Draco.
Draco followers his aunt and mom out of knockturn alley and Bethany take hold of the stroller holder and pushes it back down Knockturn Alley. She gets to the part of the alley where you need to turn left to go into one of the five shops on that side or turn right and go into one of the two shops on that side. Bethany turns right and she passes a store called Rocks Dark Creatures store and head straight back to and into David’s Dangerous Dark Art Potions shop. (David’s Dangerous Dark Art Potions shop is behind one of an unknown store on Diagon Alley that on the right of the junk shop.) Bethany stops pushes the stroller and opens the door to the shop and notices the bad odor of the shop drift out and it worse then the Apothecary on Diagon Alley. But just like the store in Diagon Alley there are barrels of potions ingredients all around the store, but they not the everyday ingredients. As she pushes the stroller through the shop door she notice two tables set up in the center of the store where bottles of already made potions of every color are for sale. The store owner looks up from reading the Daily Prophet when Bethany, Lily-May and James come into the shop and he looks at Bethany with a large smirk on his face.
David: So, what gives me the pleasure of having the vampire slayer in my shop today? Bethany: I need a bottle of the Killer of the Dead potion, do you have any pre made or do I need to wait as you make some up? David: There are few bottles made up they are the black color potions on the table to your right. Bethany: Thanks
Bethany looks at the table on her right and sees two bottles with a black liquid with the name killer of the dead writing across the front. Bethany picks up both of the bottles and then looks around to see if this shop has the potion ingredients that she will need for potions class, she relived to see there is, which save her a trip to the apothecary shop on Diagon Alley. She collects the ingredients she needs for potion classes. Bethany grabs the diaper bag and then goes up to the counter to pay every thing. The owner of the shop David slower rings up all the Potion Ingredients one by one and put them in there own unmark small brown bag and them put then in a large unmark bag. He rings up the two bottle of killer of the dead last and then place them at the top of the bigger bag.
David: The total cost is Twenty galleons, ten sickles and five knuts. Bethany: ok
Bethany unzips the front pocket of the diaper bag and takes out her coin purse. She counter out Twenty galleons, ten sickles and five knuts and heads them to the shop owner and he hands her the bag with the items she just bought. Bethany walks back over to the stroller which is by the table in between the two table the pre made potions are on. She put the diaper bag back on the roof of the stroller and then puts the store bag on the storage rack under Lily-May stroller seats. Bethany takes hold of the stroller and pushes out of the stores. She pushes the stroller very fast out of Knockturn Alley, once back in Diagon Alley she pusher Lily-May and James to Flourish & Blotts. Bethany had just pushes the stroller over to the potions section and is looking for Advanced Potion Making by Libatius Borage, which is the new textbook for potion class. When Luna Lovegood comes running over to her and kneels down in front of Lily-May and James Sirius. Luna smiles at Bethany and then tickler by Lily-May foot and James Sirius foot, both baby start laughing and smile really big at Luna.
Bethany: Hi Luna, how has your summer been so far? Luna: Good, how your summer been? Bethany: Busy, helping Fred and George with Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes joke shop, slaying and being a mother. Luna: Do you know what happen to Ollivander or the owner of the ice cream parlor? Bethany: Kidnaped by death eater during the middle of the night and the next morning we saw the sark mark above they shop, I was one of the first to check out both building with Mad eye moody and Tonks. Luna: Could you tell if they were taken alive or killed? Bethany: There were no signs that either of them was killed, must likely knock out and taking to, He who must not be named. Luna: I have to go now, see you at Hogwarts. Bethany: Bye
Bethany grabs her potions textbook and at the sometime her cousin Tonks comes walking over to her. She takes hold of the holder of the baby stroller.
Tonks: I come to help you out with your school shopping. Bethany: Thanks
Bethany heads towards the section that the Ancient Runes books are kept. Tonks pushes Lily-May and James Sirius Stroller to the Ancient Runes sections of the store and is watching her cousin closely. The whole time the four of them were shopping for Bethany school supplies Tonks try to get Bethany to talk about what happened with Draco, but she would not say a word about it. It takes Bethany a hour to buy the supplies she need and then her, Lily-May, James and Tonks heads back to the store and then upstairs to the apartment. Fred who was set on the couch talking on his muggle cellphone gets up and walks over to his girlfriend and they son and daughter. Tonks unhook Lily-May and James Sirius form the stroller and then pick them up and Tonks carries them over to the couch.
Fred: Everything ok? Bethany: Yeah Fred: I’ll put your school supplies away for you. Bethany: Thanks.
Bethany walks over to the chair closes to her and Fred bedroom door and takes a set in the chair. Remus Lupin stops walking around the room and looks at Bethany and then over at the two babies set on the couch with Tonks. He pushes his feeling for Tonks to the back of his brain and turn to look at Bethany as Fred walks back over to them.
Remus Lupin: How did it go with Draco? Bethany: We talk and I found out he is scary and I think I could have get through to him if his mom and Bellatrix did not show up. Remus Lupin: I want you to be a friend to him this year at school and try to get him to see reason that the order will be able to keep his parents and him safe if he does not want to do, He who must not be name order. Bethany: I do think that Draco has good in him when Bellatrix point her wand at Lily -May and James Sirius He yell at her Fred: What did Draco say? Bethany: Draco say this “Bellatrix put your wand down Lily-May Eileen and James Sirius Weasley is only two months old and is not a threat to, He who must not be named. “ Tonks: Bellatrix must have been mad at him for talk to her like that! Bethany: She was. Remus Lupin: I think James Sirius and Lily-May might be the key to win Draco over, I want to have him spent time with them between class and baby sit Lily-May and James Sirius when you are slaying at night. Tonks: Are you sure that safe. Bethany: Yeah, it be safe and I am sure Snape will help Draco if he needs some help. Tonks: I will be station in Hogsmade to keep an eye on Hogwart, so if you need help I can watch my second cousin. Bethany: Thanks Remus Lupin: We should be going Tonks and Bethany will have a order meeting at the Burrow.
Bethany looks over at her son and daughter and then goes over and gives them both a kiss. Fred pulls Bethany into a hug and rubs her back.
Fred: Are you sure you still want me to bring Lily-May and James Sirius over once the shop closed for the night or do you want to take them with you? Bethany: No, you bring them over this evening, you need to spent has much time with your son and daughter before September 1, because Lily-May, James Sirius and I have to head back to Hogwarts. Fred: And as I tell you before I come out and see you every weekend.
