ummmm, well, just they are french doesn't mean they don't speak english, most people who don't speak english as a first language, speak it as a second

I think taht's great that people are buying the books when they cant even read them ! I know that I have a lot of japanese stuff that I cant read, but I still have it. If there is something that you are really into, then it wont matter if you cant read it, because at least you have it. Its all a matter of being able to say "What? YOU don't have the latest Harry Potter book? Well, I must say I'm rather surprised, I've had mine for AGES..."

They were probally so engulfed with harry potter that they got the first copy and showed off to their friends that they got the new harry potter book. Thats what i did

That is possible, because I read french rather well, but I can barely speak it at all, just a few words..so I can read french books and stories, but I when I went to France I had a hard time speaking and communicating with my host family...eck...so maybe they could read english, but just couldn't speak it well...or maybe they knew a person who knew english fluently and could tell them the story...
