What the hell? I would rather ask Dobby if he had something I could borrow than turn up to the ball in that... thing. It's got frills and laces! Harry is looking pretty suave though.

It wasn't a suit... it was dress robes... and it was supposed to look like a dress, not a cheap tuxedo

It's easier to explain something in a book than to show it in a movie. All JKR has to do is to say that they are dress robes, and we automaticly assume that they are robes that look more formal than regular ones. We also mentally picture them so that they make the most sense to us.

However, movies are a little bit tricker. They have to actually show them. No wiggle room for personal interpretation. What would a dress robe look like? How would it be "better" than a normal robe? These are pretty difficult. However, we already know that tuxedos are formal. So the filmakers have decided to go with that, even though they are muggle clothes.

Maybe, but... it's supposed to be a robe, not a suit. If you look at Toga's Kimono, and Chinese robes, you notice something. They are all robes, which means they usually bear some resemblance to dresses, not tuxedos. Don't try to justify, they just were lazy

Well, they've started to dress them in school uniforms rather then robes (and only robes), I understand why Harry has a tuxedo now. But they could given them robes from the very beginning (but school uniforms with robes probably look better to them in movies). :-?

Yes, but Hermione in the movie is nothing what I have imagined. She is pretty but I imagined her to be different and she is even wearing a pink dress. I like baby blue better. I was disappointed when I saw her in pink dress, although Harry looks exactly how I imagined him.
