Godric's Hollow - What will Harry find?

Postby Snow_Crystal » Wednesday 3 August 2005 3:27:12pm

We know he's going to head back there, what do you think he's going to find? Why is it called "Godric's" Hollow? Is there a link to Godric Gryffindor? Is Godric's Hollow itself the original Gryffindor's house? Is this what LV wanted as a horcrux - the house or something in it we haven't heard of? If he wanted Godrics Hollow itself as the final horcrux, does the fact that it was a complete wreck mean that it wasn't successfully created as a horcrux?

What does everyone think about Godrics Hollow in general?

godric's hollow MUST have something to do with gryffindor himself. that name is just too coincidental otherwise.
i'm not sure he wanted to use godric's hollow itself as a horcrux, as godric's hollow is a village, and that would be difficult. he might have wanted to use something in the village for a horcrux though. as we still don't know exactly what lily and james did for a living, it would be interesting to theorize about what they might have had in their house that he may have wanted.

Heh, didnt even realize about Godric and Gryffindor. But that does bring an interesting point, some possesion of his could have been left there.

But on the same note, Voldemort is a descendant of Slytherin, what if Harry was a descendant of Gryfindor? His father's past is a wizarding family right? Not much else said on that.

That's quite an interesting thought. Godric's Hollow must be of importance in one way or another. But there are two things that make me doubt it was meant as a Horcrux. One is that I cannot imagine DD would have missed something that obvious if Godric's Hollow indeed had some hidden relics of Gryffindor. Then, Voldemort killed the Potters shorty after finding out about their whereabouts. Wouldn't he have needed some planning or investigation?

What if DD did know, and wanted HArry to find out the horcrux for himself? Reason perhaps to lead Harry to find one Horcrux, he could figure out how to find the others..... just a guess.

no, i doubt DD would leave something of such danger and importance if he had found it.
i havent a clue what he could actually find there but i dont think he left a horcrux or made one there

It shouldn't matter though. Blood-heritage is irrelevant in the eyes of Gryffindor (unlike Slytherin). All that truley matters is the contents one's heart & character. If he is Gryffindor's "heir" its because he carries on Gryffindor legacy of bravery, heroism, & selflessness; not because of something as meaningless as "blood".

Don't mean it by that, more than less, i see it as being a possible irony, 2 rival groups' descendants, meeting for the final battle.

*sarcasm on* yes, Dumbledore because Dumbledore would just go 'Hmmm i know where the horcrux's are, but you know what, let's make it ever more difficult for Harry and let him figure it out for him self, mwahahaha' *sarcasm off*

Not bloody likely

Hi the_truth_hurts!

I didn't realise - is Godric's Hollow a village? - I read it as the name of the house they hid in. hmm.

I still think there's got to be some history here somewhere.

To the person who said they didn't think DD would leave something so dangerous and important there, it's a good point but we don't know whether that was where DD wanted to go next. I suspect DD was going after the most difficult horcruxes so that if something was going to happen to him then Harry or someone else might have a little hope in finding the rest.

I can't wait to find out what is at Godric's Hollow. What does everyone think Harry will find? Talking portraits of his parents I reckon will be there somewhere, some of his old toys, his parents old wands..that would be intriguing as normally they're broken aren't they. Or will he find a person....?

Maybe... it wasn't James who was the descendant of Godrick Gryphindor. Could you imagien lily's talent, red hair and sense of justice having a more far reaching history?

Nah - I disagree and don't think Lily would be a descendant - seems a little too obvious/corny to me.

I think if anyone's a descendant of Gryffindor I think it will be Scrimgeour - why else would JKR go on about him being Lion-like?

By the way just to confirm, it definitely is a village as JKR says on her website - just spotted that now!!!
