I wonder how Dumbledore got him?

I have a feeling they "met" and became more friends more than anything else. I got the distinct impression that they looked out for each other, almost like a witch's familiar...unless he was the "pet" that DD took with him to school? In that case, maybe he was "inherited" after a fashion...

Yeah, I know what you mean, but maybe the rules weren't as rigid back then? Who knows <grasping at straws>

i've been trying to find out as much as i can about the myth of the phoenix, but there's so many differnt interpretations from ancient greece, rome, egyptians and modern day christianity, it don't think there's one definitive version of the phoenix myth.

but one thing that did strike me was i read that only one phoenix at a time can live. and they aren't immortal, just live for a very very very long time.

Really? What about Fawkes swallowing that serpent curse in OOTP and bursting into flames (and then being reborn)? Hmm...I guess there isn't anything that says JKR must adhere to all the rules when it comes to Phoenixes <lol>

Ok we're going slightly off course on this subject so let's head back.

I wonder if DD might have left a memory for Harry about Falkes? maybe this memory might detail when he donated two feathers to Olivander? I think Falkes must have some role to play in the last book, how I don't know but will Harry have to find Falkes or will Falkes find him.

Anything else people want to see in the Pensieve?

That too is part of mythology...the Phoenix is reborn of its own ashes, thus giving it long life. Now I too am guilty of veering off topic but I just wanted to get that off my chest...lol.

Does anyone recall if the Pensieve Snape used was his own or was it Dumbledore's?

Whoever mentioned something about DD talking to Minerva as she's the new headmaster, I think the opposite will happen. I think he will be there when she *needs* him, but otherwise I bet he will be snoozing or catching up with other dead headmasters...lol.

I digress...

Yes...urm...what I meant by that was Fawkes was killed (by the curse), and then reborn...which would go against the mythology that Phoenixes are not invincable, merely longlived.

So yeah... the Penseive...what were we saying? :-)

Since Dumbledore tries to find out as much about Voldemort as possible, he probably sought out Fawks after he learned about Voldemort's wand's core. He probably kept him around for research purposes. I'll bring this back to the pensieve by saying there are probably more memories about stuff like that; Dumbledore finding out stuff about Voldemort's past. If he went through the trouble to get the animal that provided the core, he must have run down a hundred other leads looking for a break.

I want to see more of DD's memories! He is such an entertaining character at times, like in the Dursley's house. Younger DD memories would be great.

The Pensieve was Dumbledore's.

Rather than double-post, just thought I'd edit this one. Having read most of GoF again I really think Harry is going to spend a lot of time researching Dumbledore's memories.

DD seems to have stored so many and they are just swirling around in that Pensieve. DD always said that Death was just the next journey for the well-prepared wizard. He wants someone to know about his memories which is why he stored them. I can't believe he wouldn't expect Harry to go rifling through them. After all HP did that before and DD wasn't angry.

Does anyone find it strange that DD didn't ask Harry for the memory of the moment LV returned? :???: :???:

In fact, thinking on it - why didn't they actually get this memory from Harry to prove that LV had returned much earlier!!!!!!!

Does the killing curse send people flying? I was of the impression that it just swept the life out of the people it hits, not knocks them back.
Was Dumbledore right in front of the window when he was hit?
I better read over this chapter again.

Hi xtreme_matt32

Welcome to the boards! Just one favour to ask. Can you post things in the feeds that they relate to. This one's about the Pensieve. Also would you be able to have a look at the other feeds before creating new ones, even if it means we go over old ground, it's easier for everyone.

Cheers! Happy posting!
