Hi DarkOne

you know this maths lark is a hard business. It took me ages to work stuff out too but thankfully others have spent a lot longer than us!

Take a look at this link. I found it after I posted originally, it's quite an interesting read and yes I do hope we find out when, why Snape signed up in the last book and what came to pass the night the Potters died

sorry i didnt take the time to read more than the first few posts in this thread, but come on! thats a no brainer at all!
the book did belong to someone before snape - his mother:
"it's just that i was right about Eileen Prince owning the book. you see ... she was snape's mother!" (Hermione to Harry, book6, the white tomb, p.593)
so you see there's nothing wrong with the timeline and the book didnt belong to Vold

Yeah you probably should have read some more of the posts in the thread to see how it panned out.

snow fight my last post was quite insultive i guess and i'm sorry for that - obviously you know more about the books than me, and read them more times...

and yet i am right about this - this time i did read a few posts but i'm not gonna read all the 4 pages - basically what you're saying - proving in the first post is that snape couldnt be the first to own the hbp book. you are absolutely right about that. what you are wrong about is the theory that vold owned it before snape. it wasnt vold, it was snape's mother - eileen, as hermione found out in the library and told harry in the part that i quoted.
please think about this and tell me why this cannot set the timeline straight, if you actually discussed exactly that somewhere in this thread i'll go back and look for it to see what you said

Hey no worries!!! :D And by the way, I would never claim to know the books more than anyone - it's also fun to discuss our ideas hence the reason for the forum in the first place.

It was a long time ago that I posted my original question, but thinking off the top of my head I do remember that Eileen Prince was mentioned in the HBP book but I'm not sure it is actually said anywhere that she actually owned the book before Snape. No-one knows that for definite. It is probably inferred though I was just debating whether we should assume that or not.

I don't know something just makes me feel like there's more to Snape and LV's relationship. the only thing I could think of at the time was that maybe Eileen was at school at the same time as Tom, that maybe she was a Slytherin too and that possibly Tom may have given his book to Eileen who then passed it on to Snape.

It's far reaching I know!!

first seeing what you posted on other subjects - i do think you read the books more than me and know them better - the only times i read a book for the second time was while reading it to my sister and that too was only the ends of book 4 and 6...

second not to be argumentative, just to settle it down for good - you did say that it bugged you a lot, and i saw you wrote about it in another thread too -

Snow_Fight wrote:In CoS, when Harry is 12, the Chamber was opened 50 years before that and in PS Hagrid says he was expelled at 13. I assumed he was the same age as Voldemort.

that would mean that now the last time the chamber was opened was 54 years ago.
in cos we are told by riddle's diary that he opened the chamber when he was in his fifth year:
"In my fifth year, the Chamber was opened..." (CoS, The very secret diary, p.180 english version)
so that means that tom was in his sixth, and used his advanced potion making, 53 years ago

in hbp harry finds out that the book was printed nearly fifty years ago:
"There he turned its pages, searching, until he finally found, at the front of the book, the date that it had been published. It was nearly fifty years old." (A very frosty christmas, p.316, english version)

so the book tom was using is at least 53 years old, the hbp book is nearly 50... if any1 passed the book on to eileen prince, it wasnt vold.

still i thik maybe you are correct about snape and vold having some connection prior to snape being a d"e
