In my opinion, he's on his own side, a typical Slytherin (neither truly evil, nor truly good).

Well, I'd say that the prophecy has basically established almost beyond doubt that Voldemort is the Dark Lord.. because he marked the child.

Not necessarily.. it doesn't mean that Snape doesn't think he's the Dark Lord, because remember he didn't hear the entire prophecy when he eavesdropped.

So he might not have heard the bit about marking the child as an equal.. and thus thinks he has the power to become the true Dark Lord.

He is not evil. Something happened to him to change sides and I still can't figure out what is that!!! Maybe he was deeply in loved with some girl/boy and L.V. hurt her/him. Maybe they hurt someone from his family, a mother, father... But J.K. has that kind of style that it will be a dog or a cat or some kind of mutant.... :???:

Hmm, or maybe he was never that evil. Just cruel and lonely.

I think James and his friends pushed a little too hard... Maybe one part of the blame is on James. Maybe if he didn't torture Snape so hard it wouldn't be like that. But maybe it would be the same, who knows? :-?
