This is nuts,.....The "release of the books" And all that. but this is crazy! Parents have been setting up their children for theopist appointments because they think Harrys gong to die, and that their kids wouldn't be able to cope! That's so pathetic! I mean, if Harry dies, I'll be sad :-( , then be mad at JKR :x ...

Riiiight. But actually, we are all mature here at BaO, but you've got to think about the age that some of these kids might be. Some of these kids could be 7.. or under!?!?! And tell me, how many childrens books, or tv programs, or movies, do you know of where somebody dies? Not including the evil person I suppose, but seriously.. I can't think of many.. if any. And not only is Harry Potter a book, but its huge! And these kids have been waiting for it for years and Harry Potter is their hero. I can understand it. Some young children don't always understand the difference between reality and make-believe.

Not true, we do have young members here hence the rules about bad language...

Still agree with Simatra though, there is something wrong with the world when kids can't tell the difference between a book and real world and can't cope with the death of a fictional character, children shouldn't need therapists to read books, something went wrong with their education or upbringing if they do.

that's true. i was 10 when dumbledore died and i cried.... but it wasn't something i needed to go to therapy for. but when you put that way, i can see how it would upset them.

I don't think kids that young should be reading Harry Potter in the first place, it gets really dark by the end of the series. And if you cried about DD at ten, imagine taking off a few years and having Harry die. And I don't think its part of bad upbringing at all, all children have to learn the difference between reality and make-believe at some point, otherwise children wouldn't have the imagination that they are well known for if they always new nothing was real. Obviously the parents care about their children if they are prepared to take them to a therapist (and pay for it) so i can't imagine a bad upbringing or education being that much of a problem.

Yes, but I'm positive that some of these kids were my age or older! (I'm 14, by the way) and I see both sides of the argument.

That's crazy! I agree, something must have gone wrong with the parenting if a kid needs therapy after reading a book. :o

Actually, Fawkes, you were 9 when DD died. That book came out 2 years ago. :D

Well as Simatra said, it does depend on the age group. Very young children should be upset but... anybody over the age of ten.. thats just silly.

He-he! We're all mature on hear? Fawkes?! Sorry.
Anyway I was about 8 when Cedric died and I sad but I lived. It's weird though. Why schedule the appointments now when you don't even know who will die in this book. I don't really like the way that one person dies in every book 4 plus. It's a little weird.

It makes sense I guess, to me it would actually make more sense if more than one person died in each book. I guess they do, we just aren't really 'connected' to those people. But seriously, an evil wizard on the loose?
As for mature people on this forum, Fawkes does not stand out to me as immature. If anybody does its you Godric :P

 I'm sure Godric was talking about Fawkes's age as well as how she acts. But I think Fawkes is very mature on this forum.

It's not surprising that multiple people will die in this book. There's going to be a war, so people will die. It would be kinda weird if Voldy was the only one who died. Wouldn't be very realistic (of course, HP isn't reality! ).
