Does DD really know everything?

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Does DD really know everything?

As I've noticed, almost everybody seems to expect him to...but I don't have the impression, just remember he trusted Quirrel...he didn't seem to know about the Slytherin monster being a Basilisk either...opinions???

About the Basilisk, I'm not sure if DD knew or not, since he didn't believe that it as Aragog, but wait a minute if Myrtle died that time, then surely DD would recognise how she died, no?; I mean the confusing thing is that they were petrified.

and about Quirrel I have thought of that to, I mean it is very strange for him not to know that Quirrel was a little different.

So I suppose DD doesn't know everything, but enough

i don't believe that DD knows everything, but i do think he is very smart, just like he didnt even know where the chamber was, or he would have destroyed it, and like in the 4th book, he found the room with the chamber pots, but then couldn't find it again

Yeah, there are powers over DD's ones. We will have to wait and see more.

So Dumbledore's trust alone is no guarantee that a character is good...

No, but he tends to be right! I think he learns a lot from his experiences. I dont think he knows everything but i think he thinks a lot - making him able to um, understand things better than people.

Well thats what i think anyway :D

Well, but for DD to trust someone I'm sure he has to be sure of that person.

Really? I think you tend to overesteemate DD, Neo. Of course, he cannot be infallible, that would be boring. And personally, I think that his willingness to trust person too easily is DD's greatest weakness

Thats a very good point about his trusting too easy Siana... He doesnt' seem to want to give up on that trust... I mean, Quirell might have been a very good guy, worthy of everyone's trust before Voldie got to him... but then, when he came back... people would have to have some suspisions about him... and I think that DD would have just though, nah, I trust this guy, nothing's wrong with him... something along those lines anyways???

I wonder if Snape was the only one who knew.

Hum, i think Snape was. And that DD thought he was the same as before. Maybe all this had to happen though - for in future books?? Like Harry had to defeat Quirrel not DD and that Harry had to find the chamber of secrets to learn stuff about him and his past - but then i dont know if DD would knowlingly(sp) endanger a student. Also he cant feel Vol getting stronger like Harry can can he?? Or he cant feel if he is near?

And what if DD sent Snape to check Quirrell.

And DD led Harry face him only because Harry wanted to, since DD knew the stone was ssafe, and then returned to help him, no?

Yeah, I definitely think that the whole PS thing was a settup for Harry. Even if Dumbledore didn't know about Quirrell, he must have suspected that Harry was up to something. I mean, when Dumbledore gave him the Invisibility Cloak, he was nearly asking Harry to break rules, wander around the school, and discover things that he normally would not have.
Like Neo said, there's a higher power than Dumbledore in the wizarding world so he can't be fully omnipotent and all-seeing, but I think he's pretty close.

But remember, we're talking about an eleven years old boy that just found out he was a wizard. I think DD would be a fool to make such a set up...(but maybe that is why Snape treats Harry that way? Because he knows what Dumbledore is up to and strongly diapproves of it?)

But what I think is that it is a real danger for people to see DD as infallible and therefore follow him somewhat blindly...maybe his reputation is even a threat to DD himself, if he starts to believe it himself, he might not think it's sometimes necessary to rethink a decision...
