Well Hermione was able to do some spells without traning, so maybe Snape could do some curses; and Mist is right, most surely he said he knew more than the ones he was able to really do (in first year)

I think that's the way they tach them in Hogwarts.
And they knew about curses since first grade, I mean Draco cursed Neville, and then Hermione.

Then, how could his parents have taught him spells? Any magic activity (apart from flying, floo powder or any other way of transportation) of a person that doesn't have the permission to is immedeately recognized by the ministry. He certainly wouldn't have been able to cast more than 2 spells or the ministry would have intervened.

That whole under age wizardry is very annoyingly strange... becuase then how come Hermoine didnt' get busted for trying some simple spells, like she said she did...
Maybe they just have a very close eye on Harry at the Misesrty, to make sure nothing bad hapens to him???

Well, she doesn't exactlysay where she tried them, but it gives the drift that it was at home... before she caught the train...

i think magic is allowed before you get to school.....i think the law only starts once youve got to wizarding school and have been taught magic.....you are probably assumed to not be capable of anything dangerous until you start being taught.....i mean harry did spells too before school though he didnt realise...letting a snake lose, growing back his hair, shrinking a jumper....
your also less likely to be doing anything dangerous i would have thought....the law is probly there to stop you practising what you have been taught without proper supervision....

They werent' really spells... after all, dont' you need a wand to perform a spell... that was just unfocused release of magic... possibly what elemental magic is??? *if there actually is elemental magic???*

I agree with Sonk, in the part that you are under vigilance until you enter school.
And maybe Sirius was exagerating a little, Snape could have knew somethings, but not that much.

This was way back, and I'm feeling really stupid right now and I just can't remember the books, but I thought that Sirius was a DE. Because, didn't he switch James's secret keeper to Pettigrew because he didn't want to betray James?
Maybe I've just been reading too much fanfic and am confusing them with the books...

Yes, definitely you have read too much fan fic; Sirius makes Peter the keeper because he thought that Voldemort would never suspect of him.
