I'm not sure. I would think it would just be the top two student in each house. I mean, if all of the girls in Harry's year got better grades than him, then it would be unfair to choose one of them and then him, based solely on the fact that he's a boy.

Well, but girls can't chech on boy in their dorm, so one boy prefect is requiere for that, no?

I thought that JK said that there were 1000 students ar Hogwarts...
so that would be about 142 in each yr, and about 35 in each house from that year... :???:

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense at all. I think that, ::gasp::, JK made a mistake. There are five guys in Harry's year in Gryffindor, and three girls. That would be eight, but we'll round to ten, to give JK the benefit of the doubt. Multiplied by four we get forty. And then by seven and we get 280. Um, that's a bit far from a thousand!

abt the head boy/girl, i was thinking that the two were selected among the 6th yr prefects...so the rest just becomes the 7th yr prefects...
(they can't just stop being prefects right?)
i mean it is just like the sch way...i m a prefect in my sch all the way till my final yr and the head prefect at my final yr is the same age as me...

I'm not sure about that, I think that with prefects from two grades is enough; and well, gryffindor could be the house with less students, no?

i agree with choki...i cant see it happening any other way

they promote the student to being a prefect in 5th year, they cant then take that promotion away and make the student a normal student again just because they dont succeed in becoming head boy or girl...the head boy and head girl must have been a prefect before to be elligable for the position, nothing else makes sense.....but there has to be more than 2 prefects per year and you cant demote the ones in 7th year that fails therefore the remains of the prefects must stay as prefects....

There must be two prefects per grade per house, so 8 per grade; and maybe from those 8, two become head boy/girl

Okies, I've just had an idea for a prefect... from Griffindor that is... it kinda goes along with my names threory which I will post very very soon! *within the next hr our so!*

Lavender Brown... mainly based upon her name... She does appear to do well in Divination too, no?

Anyways, when you go check our my name thing, if you do, it minght kinda make more sense, but I dont' want to go writing it in here twice so that we dont' end up with two similar threads again!!! :-?
