A Curious Couple - Harry and Luna (possible spoilers)

Postby Lunatech » Monday 23 June 2003 10:54:41am

Upon finishing the book there have been some very big changes after the fifth year. I felt that the slow buildup towards Cho Chang from the previous novels would point to her as his love interest.

For me OotP changed all of that. It doesn't seem Harry and Cho have very much in common. Aside from their curiousity with each other there doesn't seem to be anything profound between them. All of it was confusing to me until finishing the last chapter of the book. I feel JKR is building Luna to be with Harry.

There are strong parallels showing how much James and Harry resemble each other. I think the same parallel can be drawn with Luna Lovegood and Lily Potter. JKR describes them very similarly...especially how she elaborates quite extensively about their eyes.

She shares many things in common with Harry. They can both see thestrals. They share the same grief of losing a parent. Harry can sense what Luna can sense...even more uncanny is that Luna's ability to see things seems magically innate. I think Luna would be a great love interest for Harry. Cho and Harry seem too much like an adolecent relationship without purpose. I think something profound will form between these two within the next two books.

Feel free to object or agree :)

Funny you should mention that, because thats what i thought all the way through the book, and it became more obvious at the end

Why not?

Cho obviously valued Harry for the wrong reasons (and having the death of Cedric between them was something of a bad thing for a relationship). In some ways, so did Ginny Weasley. However, Luna seems to like Harry for the right reasons, and they have plenty of shared experiences and values. I think JKR said in book 4 everybody was in love with the wrong people (Harry to Cho; Ron to Fleur, Victor to Hermonie). Perhaps this is the start of people starting to be in love with the right people.

Let's face it, Ron and Hermonie are nuts about each other but don't know how to express it. I think it was shown quite clearly in Chamber of Secrets movie where Hermonie had no problem hugging Harry at the end, but became distinctly awkward when it came to Ron.

Yeah. I got that Luna liked Ron from the book also. She laughs at all his jokes longer and harder than others, and she offered to carry Ron's owl at the beginning. If Luna ends up with anybody, I bet it'll be Ron.

And she was singing that Weasley is our King song *probably not noticing that it was supposed to be derogatory!!! ;) *

Maybe they will date very briefly, making Hermoine Jealouse, after all, it's only been Ron who was jealouse of her and Voctor so far!!! :-?

i think harry and luna will build during the next books, like said before. i mean, they seem perfect for each other. sure, luna can be a bit odd at times, but there's nothing wrong with that, and i like her personality like that. as for luna and ron... er, i didn't really think of anyting like that. i thought the reason that luna laughed for so long was so show how she was different from the others and why her nickname was "loony lovegood".
as for cho, i'm glad Harry finally got over her. hopefully the next time he sees her, he'll be like "what did i ever see in her?" because she really was rather annoying and not too smart (even though she was in ravenclaw) i mean, look at her choice of firends (Marietta)... and she really was bad at expressing what she wanted to say. so yeah, good thing that's over!

I really think Luna likes Ron, but obviously Ron will never go out with such an odd girl.
And yeah, Luna has some similarities with HArry, but also with Neville; so I thin I frther books Luna and Neville will get together.

This is a funny subject, curious couples, well after scanning the thread I feel that people are between which one she likes Ron or Harry. I got the impression that at the start of the book she liked Ron, then at the middle and end it was Harry I mean listen to this comment she said to Ron at the Hogwart Express page171 brit version
"she didnt enjoy it much" luna informed him "she doesn't think you treated her very well, because you wouldnt dance with her. I dont think I'd have minded" She add thoughtfully "I dont like dancing"
Then later on on the chapter she wanted to carry Ron stuff like his owl. Sounds like she like Ron there and then later in the book at christmas time (page 400 brit version)
"misletoe" said luna dreamily, pointing at a large clump of white berries placed over Harrys head"
so it sounds like she now likes Harry and I think this continued without the book. But personally I dont think either will go out with her, and I think that in future books Luna is going to get her heart broken. Poor Luna

In the beginning the first chapter I did pick up on the fact that it appeared Luna liked Ron, but it also seemed like she might like Harry also, although it wasn't as apparent. In the last chapter though the way Harry felt about Luna, or with Luna is the way you feel with someone you really like. Maybe Luna doesn't like Harry as much as he likes her, but doesn't know.

Luna

Postby highsorcerer » Thursday 26 June 2003 12:18:51am

It seems Luna is unique in one aspect; she has always treated Harry as an equal. She doesn't stand in awe of him like Ginny, the Creevey brothers, and most of the rest of the school (and even Ron and Hermoine on their first meeting). Indeed, by neither hero-worshipping him or treating him with contempt, she's marked him as her equal like nobody else has. She likes him for him, not everything he's done before. She's a remarkable young woman, and quite mature for her age.

Highsorcerer, it's a toss-up between you and Lunatech who likes Luna more! ;) tee-hee

I'm not sure what I think of Luna and Harry as a couple. I think it's possible...or they may just be really good friends who understand each other. I can see Hermione be jealous of their closeness, and possibly Ron being jealous of Hermione being jealous of Luna and Harry's closeness! What'd make it funnier is if, in that crazy chain, if Harry really liked Luna, but she still had eyes for Ron!

I definatly picked up on Ron and Luna things and I thought that she would be used to make Hermione jealous - just like with Krum. But the whole situation between Ron and Hermione was a real underlying theme - odd sentances here and there. :???:

I don't think Cho and Harry are suited at all. I feel Harry built up an image in his mind of Cho being perfect and in someways this image was created in our minds. We all wnated them to get together because we thought it would be sweet and Harry deserved some happiness! But despite all her crying, which i think was a little too much (it was sad but life goes on, i have experience), she didn't have many redeeming qualities and had a fiery temper. I'd like to see something happen between Luna and Harry, with all those similarities thay look like they can understand each other and be happy. Ultimatly, JKR dedicated a whole chapter to luna and that is no coicedent!(Excuse bad spelling, my brain has gone!) :P
